Members Nightbrew Posted July 20 Members Posted July 20 Looking into mounting options on a square bow jon boat, using a remote control minn kota. Reading differing opinions on the internet, on how much it matters in terms mounting it close to centerline. Is mounting close to center that important, or is off to the side ok, but it doesn't track as well? I almost exclusively fly fish so having it mounted off to one side keeps the casting area slightly more clear. Thanks
fishinwrench Posted July 20 Posted July 20 Off to the port side is fine...... unless you are actually using it to "troll". And even if you are I would want it mounted on the port side anyway. DADAKOTA 1
Dutch Posted July 20 Posted July 20 Which MK are you going to mount? There are some options that you might want to consider.

And doesn't impede vision. Plus, running your TM wiring harness along the port side keeps it from interfering with any dash mounted electronics, or anything else on the Starboard side. I'm sure it wouldn't track as well as a center mount, but it is anything to be concerned about in your opinion?
snagged in outlet 3 Posted July 20 Posted July 20 I’m used a 55 pound trolling motor on canoes I rented when I floated a lot. To blast through frog water quickly. I mounted it on the side of regular canoes with no problems. Used to bring a 1” board to put under the clamp.

Honestly the only time you might notice any tracking issues are going to be very windy days.... when you don't wanna be out there in a square nose jon boat anyway.
