Fall turkey grocery shopping. Young jake and a hen. Good eating pair. Two for one shot. Let them line up and let them have it. I knew where there was a flock hanging out. Waiting for a cool morning. 45 with a north wind was nice. IMG_20251019_080303717.jpgIMG_20251019_082717695_HDR.jpgIMG_20251019_082732134.jpgu

I love fall turkey hunting. Maryland has a one week season and only in the three western most counties.  I hunted them last year but fished more than hunted. No turkeys. Only saw a couple of squirrels and they were only on private land😒. Maybe if I stayed out that way I could get on some birds. Hard to put in four hours on drive time each way and a good time hunting. So I fished and did a little calling. If I got a response or heard birds I would get after them.

I never turkey hunted but for years I caught a lot of big trout on those breast feathers. Used yellow , gold and copper paint for sight fishing. Buddy at the GAF plant in Annapolis used some I gave him in 1/100 oz. and spanked the heck out of crappie. Grandkids are just starting to jig fish so now they're using them.

Back in south Texas we would slice the breast up and marinate them in tomatoes and some Mexican spices and then slice them up and deep fry them. Then add lots of cilantro, caramelized onions and homemade tortillas. Next add some Mexican Queso Chihuahua cheese, fresh lettuce and end up with wonderful tacos.
