Ya, not sure. I am guessing it was something to do with a live well. He had another wound on the other side of his mouth. I could tell he was recently caught.

I caught a 3.5 around kimberling last week that had that same stuff on the tail, looked pretty nasty

I was at cape also fished from 6 to 830 we had 4keepers and 4 shorts on big worm and some on a jig 10 to 20 ft on points wtr temp show 83.9

I've caught a few in the last month or so with the tail issue too.  They were all caught pretty shallow.  Not sure what it was from.
