Travis Swift
if a guy was gonna pour some small jig heads what size hook should be used? smallest jig hook I can find is a size 12...or is there a good place to buy premade heads with a small size 12 hook that is a decent quality hook? For instance there is a collarless jig head mold that goes down to 1/80th ounce. If I put a small size 12 hook in that, could I make some decent small jig heads to use with my fly rod with them? Or would it be easier to just buy some plain PJ's jig heads in the 1/125th ounce with the size 10 jig hook?
tjm
J Stockard lists these down to #20 and half a dozen other styles down to #16 http://www.jsflyfishing.com/firehole-sticks-516-60-degree-heavy-jig-barbless-hook and these to #18 http://www.jsflyfishing.com/lightning-strike-jf2-barbless-60-degree-jig-fly-hook Presumably if Stockard has these other suppliers could get or do have the same sizes in the same styles. The easiest way to add weight to a fly is use a bead for the head, or add lead wire under the body. I have used tiny split shot quite a bit, about 3" up the tippet. I was looking for a 90 degree hook to fit a do it mold. I have been known to modify my molds a lot though so I might be able to use something of this sort to make a micro jig if I needed to. tjm
Just a thought, Travis, but in those small sizes won't a 90 head pretty much close the gape up? I have seen the small 60 style used with bead heads. I bought some 1/100 oz #14 some place a long time ago and used very few of them so far. BPS has these 1/128 oz #10 that you could tie on. https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/white-river-fly-shop-super-jighead

Gavin
Most fly shops carry ball heads down to 1/124th oz and they come in gold, nickle, or plain lead. Think I found a source tor the tubing on the Turner, maybe use a red sharpie on the cut end to give it a red collar Dual Wall Adhesive Heat Shrink rucker

Travis Swift
Not trying to make a Turners but was just messing around trying to make a tiny micro. Just took a #10 sickle hook and pinched a split shot on. Painted it and tied. Bottom jig is a Dinky Doty for reference
