  1. My favorite week is third week in Oct. Great colors and nice weather..................hopefully good fishing.
  2. I have a friend fishing between point 10 and 12 the last week and he has seen several walleye, whitebass, and a few crappies dead. Some of the whites and one walleye was still alive, but barely. Come on cool weather.
  3. I fished yesterday from 6 A.M. to noon from pt 13 to Cape Fair Marina. I fished from 10 ft to 40 ft with a number of lures, spoon, dropshot, big worm, deep crankbait, ect. I never had a bite. I'm not a great angler, by anyone's standard; but rarely do I get blanked. I did see well over 50 dead fish floating and all appeared to be suckers. The fish had been dead for a while, so the actual kill may have occurred much further upstream. I did contact Shane Bush, as I noticed in his article; that nobody had reported any type of kill in the James. Hopefully this rain and much cooler temperatures will help solve this problem. I hope and pray that we are not looking at another 1999 fish kill.
  4. Wow!! Bill you missed your calling in life. What a sales pitch. I hate Lake O and you make me want to run up and hire this guy and stay with him too. Seriously, this is good stuff and the main reason this forum is such a success. We are truly blessed on this site to have sooo many good folks that are will to help others. It's a shame we can't have more of this throughout our country and world. People willing to help strangers, without expectations.
  5. Great fish Wyatt! That's the biggest meanmouth that I've every seen. I bet Grandpa is proud of you.
  6. PM sent. If Dave can't help, I can.
  7. Good trip, Cody. That's at least a 8 lb smile on that young man's face.
  8. Good report and great looking Spot! Congrats to your daughter! There's nothing better than putting our young children or grandchildren on fish.
  9. Hey Champ, I braved the flood waters (in Reeds Spring) at 10A.M. to mail your double secret baits. It was not a good decision on my part, as the rising waters were a challenge. Tell Donna that I would appreciate any feedback, that she can give me. I will pour the ones with the floating agent, when you decide what color, texture, and size you prefer. Good luck!!!
  10. Welcome to the forum and hopefully to the OzarksI just sent you a PM.............hope I can help.
  11. Thanks Jason! It's great to see see good fish being caught.
  12. I don't know what has happened to the mid to upper James the past few years, but the size and numbers are way down compared to 4-5 years ago. Every tournament out of Cape Fair, all anglers head south, They fish from pt. 12 to Kimberling City. Once in a while, a boat will stop in Piney, but most continue south, EVERY WEEK. I can see them from my house, but I won't give exact locations, as I don't want to mess up someone fishing for $. I don't know if it's fishing pressure, bait fish, water color, or just a cycle that a lake goes through. It' just not the same fishery as it used to be. Water color is a light brown color at the moment between pt. 12 and Cape Fair marina. I think for numbers and quality, the mid-lake and lower James has been much better.
  13. Great report and some great fishing. The dropshot deal is a lot of fun when they are schooled up. Congrates to your better half.
  14. What a difference a day makes! When out tonight...................same spot................same depth..............same bait...................nothing.................0....................nada......................not one bite. I guess that's why it's called fishing. I feel very blessed to have one trip a year with action like I had last night and it's nice to know that there is still a few big fish around.
  15. A big Thank You to Dave for helping me out with uploading photos. I used to be able to download them to my computer and than to the forum. Oh well, now the rest of the story...................... I took my bride fishing yesterday at 6 A.M. I told her they always bite during a light drizzle....................wrong...................zip..................nota.........nothing. To make matters worse the drizzle turned into a downpour and my stock went down by the minute. Soaking wet and no fish! I got the urge to fish around 6 P.M. and tried to convince my wife we should try again. She did give it some thought and politely said no, you go ahead and have fun. I went to the exact spot that we fished in the A.M. and it was game on.......................20 to 30 feet deep. It was a hit or a fish on every drop with a white spoon. I quickly called my wife to ask her to join the fun and she said, thanks anyway, you just enjoy yourself. The very next drop the big girl hit and gave me a awesome fight. After landing the big girl I put her in the live well and called the wife back; informed her that I needed her for a photo. She quickly met me at the dock, took a couple of pics and I released the big girl. We went back to the spot and first drop was a short fish, but the second drop I caught a twin to the first fish. Yes, I did put my wife on a few fish, before the action stopped. She caught the action shot, which is incredible, no more fish than I catch (she may have a future as a cameraman). Just when I thought there weren't any big bass left in our beautiful lake................bingo. If you look closely, you will see both tails are bloody and the one fish appears to still have eggs. All fish caught were released to be caught another day.
  16. I think Champ might filet his golf balls first.
  17. Great job Darren! I love to see competitive fishing at high school and college levels. It is a great way for many of our young men and women to get introduced to the wonderful sport of bass fishing. It was also a great report from Dad. It made you feel like you were in the boat watching the competition.
  18. What a great story and happy ending. Congrats to you both! The thing I like most about Dave, he does not discriminate against anyone. He helps all who will listen and at any age 2-100. He's the man!!!
  19. Remember one thing Cody, KVD (as great sas he is) has never won a derby on the Rock. I have fished the Rock for over 40 years and still get humbled many times. I am retired, so I fish mainly during the week and at prime times. The moral of the story is NOBODY catches them every trip.
  20. Keep throwing that little varmit. I have not found a single person that CAN'T catch fish on that little bait. For some strange reason...............it just works.
  21. Great report and awesome to see the kids fishing. That is really what it's all about, spending QUALITY time with family. I love it!!!
  22. I'm convinced the little guy can catch em anywhere. It's like my swimming worm, if they're shallow they can be caught. The major difference is the Ned work all year long. Not sure how it would do ice fishing.
  23. Great info Dave!!! I never thought I would meet a man, that is almost TOO GOOD OF A GUY. Your willingness to share your knowledge and help others is beyond remarkable. I've been blessed to fish with some wonderful guys in my 69 years and have learned a lot from them. I had the opportunity to fish with Stacey King on Wednesday. I think it was the 4th outing we've had together over the years. Every trip is a slice of heaven and yes, he can still catch em. I'm on a quest to fish with the 10 best fisherman on the Rock...............can you put me on your list. Yes, Champ, Donna, and Babler are on my list too!!
  24. I love the format and have fished two of the derbys. We cashed one check but the ride down from Cape Fair was not worth it. I personally will not fish another KVD deal until they get at least two weigh-in locations. No reason they couldn't have a satellite location in Kim City or Campbell Point.
  25. Harbor freight has a cheaper version......http://www.harborfreight.com/11-inch-long-reach-diagonal-cutter-37837.html
