  1. I'm glad I got to spend the time I did with him, but it saddens me that I won't ever get to spend time with him again. He was a good man. I understand the natural order of things, but I hate it.
  2. You want to make extra darn sure that the combined length of everything is less than the length of your boat. Inner tube + rope + chain + 2 foot fudge factor < length of boat. The chain has to touch bottom at least a little bit to work properly. Hanging free in the water just doesn't work as well. an interesting side note : once deployed I usually leave the chain out all day.
  3. Yeah well consider it payment for dealing with boat control
  4. Hopefully, not very much. I'm sure it does slow the boat some, but that is never my intent.
  5. I have a low (slow) water drag Chaim that is light. i have a higher flow chain that is quite a bit heavier. i have a couple of 5 lb window weights to throw out if I leave the boat to keep the boat from blowing too far away
  6. To me, drag chains are really helpful when drift fishing for trout. I'll always have one out anywhere it's legal. It's purchase is not to slow the boat, but rather to keep the boat parallel with the current. It is inevitable that your drag chain will hang from time to time. I added the bicycle inner tube in line to be a shock absorber for when that happens. I have fished with guys that just have a rope and been yanked off my feet when the chain hung at a higher CFS. I want a quick connect snap. I want a part of a pool noodle to make it float just in case. I want a loop to loop connection rope to inner tube. I want a single straight piece of chain. I want a bucket to carry that drag chain in to keep it from leaving a rust stain on the boat floor.
  7. Lol, IF you didn't have that giant tackle toting barge, might be easier to back her in. Or you could have a dedicated boat barn. Just sayin.
  8. Seriously, look at Google maps.
  9. Few and far between

    Hair Jig

I'm pretty fond of Zig Jigs for cold water smallies
  11. No problem, but it's going to take me a few days. Not trying to be a tease, but I'm headed out of town in the AM for a week and I'm not fooling with it until I get back.
  12. I don't deserve that. My Father in Law is a Marine that has not been on active duty for 50 years. He's still a Marine. While I have friends that have served in all the branches of the Armed Services, I never served in any branch of the Armed Services. They have my respect and admiration though.
  13. While they might have added shrimp and grits to meet demand, that's not a Louisiana thing. That's a low country South Carolina thing. I like Shrimp and Grits a lot. Louisiana rawfish when in season and Fuld Shrimp are better. You can taste the difference, but other crawfish and shrimp are still tasty.
  14. They keep your boat parallel to the current as you drift downstream. They let you drift downstream at almost the same speed as the current. Makes for great Zig Jig fishing at <10,000 CFS. legal lots of places. not legal on the Norfork. I'll never recommend anything that is illegal. I'm an Eagle Scout. It sticks with you almost as much as being a Marine does.
  15. I've been driving boats on trailers for over 40 years. My first few attempts at putting my jet on a trailer made me look like I'd never been in a boat before. Here's what I learned along the way. 1) Point your trailer downstream 2) don't ever get off the throttle completely 3) come in from downstream and let the right nose of the boat just clear the downstream edge of the trailer then turn hard right and drive the boat up with a lot of throttle 4) of course, you'll have to learn how hard back in the water to back your boat trailer in
  16. Man, I so wish I could. My wife will want to kill me, but I'd love to buy an aluminum CC with a salt water safe trailer for a couple trips a year to salt water. You should be successful. Unbelievable fishing. The WW2 museum is Very Good. I hate they chopped a StG 44 for a display. I'd love a Sturmgewehr. If you're ever in London, Go to the Imperial War Museum. It's good too.
  17. We need to get together and let me show you my drag chain design. I know you have a fancy TM, but using a drag chain can be useful too. Nice boat! I need to sell a house.
  18. You should definitely fish if possible. You can use 6 weight rod just be cool about it and don't try to hero a Redfish in too quickly. Plastic worm is the man; In just a guy desperate to get back down there.
  19. I'm being taunted by large numbers of super massive carp. I'm going to get even with them in the coming weeks. I'm not going to do boiles though. I'm going to ground bait with sweetened corn and maybe strawberry koolaid wheaties and then slip them a circle hook with a half a night crawler or corn on a hair rig. Ive got a big net.
  20. Enjoy the winds out of the N/NW on Rayburn and TB.
  21. I'm not using 2 lb. ever. Not going to do it. I use 6 lb more than 4 lb. of course, 6 lb nano is thinner than 4 lb mono. Soooooo
  22. Lol, dang near hurt myself laughing about Dave talking about carrying less.
  23. I wish I could say that
  24. Or add that trailer. You'll have an easier time finding a plastic chunk.
