  1. That reminds me of something Patrick McManus wrote: "I thought ants became extinct but then I learned I needed glasses."
  2. The teardrop is officially complete: https://youtu.be/jdjLu6BYgg4
  3. I have always been of the opinion that the guy that DOESN'T get the last word in wins by showing rational restraint.
  4. It is possible that he maneuvered the fish to that spot to get that guy moving.
  5. I got out on Sunfish lake a few weeks ago. This is not much of a fish but it proves bass are making a comeback. That lake was known for 18" bass in the eighties. And the bald eagle was cool to see.
  6. "Wasn't too bad" my butt! You had to go through the float sober. Just thinking about it gives me the shakes.
  7. If you notice the ramps are all busy at dusk. The locals know fishing is best at low light periods. I recall there being red-ears in there.
  8. Dad-gummit! I left the rod with the roadrunner tied on in the rod locker all weekend.
  9. It was tough. I talked to someone coming off the lake and he said it was good fishing until the weather turned and hasn't recovered. Docks were ok for short fish dropping the rubber worm straight down and the buzz bait along the sides. A megabass vision caught a couple larger fish from the main arm. The biggest fish was 14 3/4" on a rattle trap. But beer was drunk, steaks were eaten, cigars smoked and scotch was sipped.
  10. It is time for my buddy Bob and my fall fishing trip. One year he takes me fly-fishing and the next I take him bass fishing. I have the redneck/mopar entourage heading to LOZ in the Niangua arm. I have my six rods rigged with a buzz bait (my cousin swears by them on LOZ – his license plate even spells out “BUZ BAT”), a tandem spinner bait, jig and pig, motor-oil rubber worm, road runner on a spinning rod and the NED rig (I must have gotten ahold of the koolaid at some point).
  11. I don't know. I never heard that.
  12. I bought every one of the Smothers Brothers records from eBay about ten years ago and converted them to mp3's. I am a big fan.
  13. The album was "The Big Bambu." I taped it from a buddy who had the album. It could have been their first album and got them the movie gigs. I had it memorized.
  14. That plastic ball bat might work in my solo canoe. As soon as I get in that thing I have to go.
  15. The "hipster banana" huh. My property here in the city has quite a few trees. I cut them in half and scoop out the flesh with a spoon. Those that the raccoons and ground hogs don't get to fist.
  16. For me it was Yukon Jack during a deer season almost 40 years ago. I could barely type this. On the day Pepper Martin was inducted into the Cardinal Hall of Fame (I am just catching up with this thread) I put a sliver of banana pepper into a martini. I called it a Pepper Martini and drank to "The Wild Horse Of The Osage." Now the Schafly Tap Room has Dortmunder on tap, currently. It's not overpowering but a perfect combination of flavors and like an old friend. I plan to fill up my growler this weekend.
  17. Cormac McCarthey is my favorite author. The pictures he paints of Appalachia amaze me -- but all of the un-translated Spanish.......
  18. You know, the previous generation said all this about my generation. Adam and Eve's generation said all of this about the proceeding generation, also.
  19. And, maybe, people that can't take a joke?
  20. I tell people that see my 1979 Chrysler Fin & Fun that if you gave me a brand new Ranger I would turn it down. But if I did buy that boat with an ink pen and still did not catch fish.........
  21. +1 ' The best combination of quality and price.
  22. Candy and I and the teardrop went to Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons and the Black Hills last month. This is our first meal camped in Yellowstone. I bought the steak from Paul's Meat Market in Ferguson -- they call it the Cowboy Cut.
  23. This has been four years ago. I am pretty sure I kept the temperature between 425 and 450 because that is what is written on all frozen pizza's. But I only vaguely recall pre-heating the lid.
  24. RPS, We don't have a pizza stone but the top of our largest Dutch Oven is designed to be used as a grill. Candy made a pizza and I put in on the lid and cooked it in the egg. It turned out well. I was concerned that most of the heat was coming from underneath but that was not an issue. But one thing, the crust was great that night but as leftovers it was difficult to chew.
  25. I have left my truck and trailer at the boat ramp, overnight. But, I do believe, that was before the CORPS charged for access. It might have changed.
