  1. This Hat!
  2. I am 57 and never even felt the cold until last year and this year is even worse. I am surprised and disappointed by this. But I concentrate on keeping warm from the neck up. A turtleneck or a scarf and one of those hats with the flaps that you tie under your chin. My fingers get cold and they hurt and then my body compensates by rushing the blood to them. The cold blood that is in the hands then returns to my body dropping my body temperature and making me nauseous for about five minutes but after that all is fine.
  3. Oneshot, it doesn't take much to supply the basics with a 12-volt solar system.
  4. How is he holding that fish???
  5. Was that a bat?
  6. I just don't see any physical reason why proximity to concrete will harm a lead acid battery.
  7. What is it about frozen mashed potatoes that they never get warm in the microwave?
  8. This was well written, JD. You are a lucky man to have had such an uncle.
  9. Walcrabass, I agree with you on one point. You do have your man-parts in an uproar.
  10. Chrysler's factory school recommended 89 octane.
  11. Outside in the Green Egg -- I use Andria's, marinating for as long as I can. Inside in the wood stove -- I just use garlic and pepper. Andria's causes too much of a mess.
  12. If that happens make sure you get custody of the Dutch Oven.
  13. I use a gas smoker that now only gets used for venison sausage now that I bought the Green Egg. But it gets too hot and the sausage will dry out if I don't shut it down and start it up on intervals -- which is a pain. I assume that electric smokers have a thermostat and would be easier to keep a constant temperature.
  14. Those must have been potent cocktails,
  15. Well Al, I was a typewriter mechanic from 1980 to 1994 and we used trichloroethane to flush out and clean typewriters. I had an annoying irregular heartbeat that completely went away when I stopped inhaling that stuff.
  16. You know this is one person's opinion and I would suspect most everybody -- right or left -- would think she is an idiot.
  17. A snake of this size must hold a lot of venom. I agree with releasing it but maybe it should have been painted fluorescent orange so it can be seen.
  18. I have posted on this subject, in the past. I have several trees on a hillside here in the city and I replanted two in my yard that really produce. But they all get ripe at the same time. I do eat some; the texture is like custard but there is an unpleasant after-taste.
  19. Terrierman, The deck and roof came from a retaining wall that failed. The counter came from a downed oak that I cut two slabs with the chain saw mill. So then I could afford the Green Egg.
  20. I didn't start drinking when I met my wife but I do drink a lot more, now.
  21. I agree. "What I would do if I was Johnny" is not relevant. I would have retired to enjoy my life long ago.
  22. I should have figured but this thread is so hard to keep up with. So I will stay on topic and add this: Gourmet pork chops from Paul's Market in Ferguson seasoned with Baron's seasoning and banana peppers from the garden.
  23. I can cook. I'm just sayin'.
  24. I just heard this on NPR: http://www.npr.org/2016/09/10/493296149/in-the-battle-to-save-frogs-scientists-fight-fungus-with-fungus It appears a fungus is killing frogs around the globe. Actually it is sad. The pond on my property was loaded with them and when we camped there Labor Day we heard very few.
  25. Romines Restaurant (once voted RFT's best fried chicken), here on the north edge of town used to have an anchovy based dressing that they called Mayfair.
