  1. And we have a mallet around somewhere.....it's just that more people are telling me to go beat my meat, these days.
  2. It was from the other end.
  3. I won't use a marinade, then. Thanks for the ideas.
  4. It does seem the majority of Amber Alerts are estranged spouses.
  5. Chief, I fixed a couple of steaks the day I processed it. I DID use salt and pepper and cooked them fast in a bit of lard. The flavor was excellent but I had to cut each piece paper thin to chew it.
  6. Thanks BeeDub. And here is a picture. I am dissapointed by the pictures taken in my carport.
  7. This deer I shot is going to be one impressive mount but is really tough. I have the majority of it slated for ground venison and sausage. I need a way to make the steaks and chops a little more tender. And the next time I see a deer like this I am going to let it pass.
  8. And so is Wrench. He should be up on my bookcase beside Patrick McManus.
  9. Unless Chrysler starts making bass boats, again, I have bought my last bass boat.
  10. I own one. My wife got it for me as a Christmas present a few years back. I take video's because I know I will want to watch them when I am 90 and can't do this anymore.
  11. I fished January Wabash a couple of times last winter. I did not catch anything but that is a different subject. I have no problem but I live up here.
  12. I wonder if they smell like trouts -- that would be bad.
  13. Frisco flipped their eighth and ninth inning guys, this year. It was suggested by the press, earlier, that Neshek and Rosenthal switch their roles...I wish that happened and so does my stomach.
  14. I have settled on one cigar the Oliva Serie V and although I prefer Scotch I do drink bourbon with a cigar. At last something I can talk, intelligently, about. I think you all are aware, by now, that I am an idiot when it comes to fishing. In fact, that is a picture of me with a cigar and irish whiskey at Marble Creek.
  15. It did not occur to me to clarify. The post is about panfish but I guess I am asking about both.
  16. Thanks Mic that is good information.
  17. OK so I am going with this fly fishing thing. But I am not near trout water. This property I bought is between the Black and St. Francis Rivers so I have to fish for smallmouth. This is excellent information on types of flies and I appreciate it. But is there any advice one can give on presentation and technique?
  18. That outboard is going to overheat because none of it will be in the water.
  19. Mark! Stop right now. This fly-fishing stuff is dangerous. Once you get started you can't go back. My late father-in-law gave me his fly fishing gear before he passed away. I just wanted to get a feel for it. We fished the NFOW River last fall and I was OK but this year Brian Wise took us in his drift boat and I am not the same. The next week I picked up a spinning rod to fish my pond and it was so .......insufficient.
  20. My buddy Bob told me he uses the "improved clinch." That appears to be a palomar knot with an extra granny.
  21. Is this knot called something else? http://www.fieldandstream.com/photos/gallery/fishing/bass/where-fish/2009/02/strongest-fishing-knots I lost a fish, yesterday, and I believe the palomar knot I tied came undone (the end was in a series of loops). I had an incident with a circular saw a few years back and the two fingers of my right hand, basically, are sticks. But I can tie this San Diego knot easily enough if I keep each first finger in the loops.
  22. I can't believe I did not think of that. That is priceless.
  23. Did it occur to anyone how melancholy we will all be when Trophy catches that skunk and this thread will end.
  24. I liked it, thanks.
