  1. My buddy held the Northern Hog Sucker, Alternative Method for several years, taken by grabbing I believe. He did receive a very nice plaque for it from the state.
  2. I think OA has a rule that of you post pics of a crappir bordello you have made that you have to provide location information! The warm day/evening, a few peepers peeping, then the overcast and rain with a north breeze was almost more than I could stand. Wanted to make a run to Stockton just to fling an offering to the walleye, but sadly I didn't have my gear ready for a quick trip. Very soon the rods and rain gear will stay loaded, and the hip boots will be hanging on the porch, ready at a moments notice. Maybe the rain predicted for early next week will get things started!
  3. AWESOME NEWS Sir. I love every i/we/he/she beat cancer story, they just hit a little closer to home any more. The waiting is un-imaginable for anyone who hasn't been through it, but when good news is the end result it is amazing. So glad to hear it.
  4. I tried the FG knot last knot, apparently it requires at least 3 hands. I think I will stick with what I can actually do.
  5. My 90 HP 2 stroke Yamaha is just plain boring..

    What's Cooking?

Heated up the cast iron skillet for a couple pieces of venison loin. Tenderize them with a jacard stabber thING and seasoned well with house seasoning and introduced them to the skillet. Slightly over done to my liking but mom doesn't like red in the meat, however the flavor was very good and they were ridiculously tender. Wife made some sort of rice and a butternut squash to go with it. Wonder what the poor folks are eating tonight?
  7. Great now I have a challenge to try.
  8. Flysmallie I am heartbroken for your loss. I have been through it more times than I like to think about and God willing will go through a few more. German Shepards, Beagles, Mutts, and right now a Border Collie, you never know for sure when or where the one that captures your heart will show up. Have had to pick up my purebred german shepard from he road after she escaped and bury her, Had one beagle I had to put down myself, last thing she did was look at me and lick my hand as if to say "thank you". Dang that was harder to type than I thought it would be. My wife had never had a dog before, so the current residentify is a now aging Border Collie. When she goes I may just have my wife put down at the same time. Enjoy them and never forget that they, like us will only walk this earth for a limited time.
  9. I can't say I have mastered the Nanofil knots but I havent died yet either. So far they seem to he holding well. I will hopefully give them a good testing this spring/summer. After watching the video of the FG knot I know I am not capable of of tying that ine. I get confused as to which one I am tying but I think it's the albertoto attach my mono leaders to the Nano, but I certainly don't get it right every time, sometimes it breaks and the mice etc. In my boat barn learn new words.

    What's Cooking?

I plant turnips every year and love them. I used to cut them into fry like pieces, roll them in a dry mix and deep fry. My weird son thought they were the greatest thing ever. Parsnips, there is just something about the flavor I like, slice them thin and sautee in butter until you get a little crust at the end. I also like Jerusalem artichokes, rutabagas, not sure I have ever eaten one. If you ever want to try somehing a bit different make turnip kraut, it is strong enough to roll your eyes back in you head but difficult to not eat some more, kind of like pickled green cherry tomatoes.

    What's Cooking?

    Agreed.
  12. Once I got used to braid I haven't gone back. Specifically Nanofil, I also have some of other tyoes, Fireline etc. The coarser braids are pretty easy to put leaders on, the smaller slicker Nanofil has been a learning experience. After multiple knot failures I decided to either lean to do it or die trying. I use mostly 6 or 8 lb Nanofil or braid, with P line or strength leaders. The Nanofil is very picky about number wraps and how you pull it tight. Too many wraps and it will break, too few ad it will slip. However I am still determined to master it, the mono helps greatly with abraision against rocks etc. as the Nanofil and braids don't take it well. Often if I get frustrated I simply tie direct and continue to fish, when I do that I use a fishing fool knot. Maybe I will try the FG knot but looks complex for my simple mind.

  14. Linear? Looks like a carp that lives near a nuclear power plant.
  15. I just came back from an exploratory ride. Took my 4wd ATV down the hill (county road) about 3/4 mile to a state Highway at the dge of town. UGLY is the best word to describe it. Even my old Honda ATV was about a 45 degree angle coming back up hill, and I was very easy on the throttle. A little sun and warmer temp and it will mlet off quickly, but ain't looking likely until tomorrow.
  16. Right now horrendous my be putting it nicely. Have close to a quarter inch of ice at my house.
  17. You are not counting the fishing time you could dedicate to gardening instead of catching fish. You would save a lot of money on fuel, tackle.etc., so it might be profitable. When fishing is good my garden, what I have kept anyway, tends to get a little abandoned looking.
  18. If it is what I think, this video at about 5:30 will show what you need to do.
  19. There was a period in 2015 where for about a month of seclusion and the next 5 months if restricted activity the pics posted on OA and sent to me by friends were the saving of my mind and outlook. Even enjoyed pics of the bass things and slimy fish from Taneycomo.
  20. Shoot them deer in the butt, with your air rifle, then spark up an old time quality one and enjoy.

    What's Cooking?

Went full gourmet tonight. Turkey/roast beef sammich, cheetos, kosher dill pickles, and a few slices of Genoa salami just cause I like them. Beverage of choice was leftover unfinished Squirt and some Sprite to top it off. Dirty T shirt approved.
  22. I think maybe whitesnoop may be onto something here. A forum without pics, explanations, advice, or bragging it would be solely dedicated to . . . . . . Well I guess advertising? Also you would really hate the "what's cooking" thread.
  23. Soon my friends, soon.
  24. I have used it on my braid and nanofil. Never really sure if it did much or not, was hoping it would keep uv light damage to it down.
