    What's Cooking?

I am lazy, my electric Master built (maybe) is too easy to use. It doesn't get the heavy smoke flavor but it's just smokey enough.
  2. Hold on there. Did you read this somewhere, did someone tell you or were you a part of the lawsuit. By your rules you would have to be part of the lawsuit to know about it.
  3. Oddly enough I learn a LOT from people who tell me stuff. Some I get the opportunity to confirm some I take on faith, some I have doubts about. Wisdom (which I struggle with) is knowing which to do when. As I recall at least for a while the state record muskie was from LOZ, due to an incident with a stocking truck that had a break down of some sort and rather than lose them the crew opted to dump them into a creek that leads to LOZ. Story I heard was that they were told that if it happens again to let the fish die rather than stock them in waters where they weren't supposed to be. True or not, no clue but it is a good story.
  4. Not sure how well they do in smaller clearer rivers, at the best it can't be a good thing. Hey more stuff for the giggers, I have heard they are tasty enough to be worth eating.
  5. Sad but true.
  6. LIES, all lies. The crappie all drowned during the high water this year. 😆
  7. I guess if they catch me at the only lake I have ever done it at, assuming I go there again, then they will just have to decide to either warn me or write me a ticket. I won't argue if they do because I will be guilty. Not sure exactly the reasons on some of MDC lakes. The one I have used was no gas motors, another nearby was a smaller water supply lake and they had no issues with using a motor.
  8. We didn't feed the birds when I was a kid, but starlings and graceless were encouraged for shooting. Heck I learned to wing shoot on those flocks of starlings that were always flying over, the cats loved me. But shoot a bird that mom considered pretry and things went downhill fast.
  9. Delicious looking Oneshot.
  10. Doesn't that fall under self defense.
  11. If I had a bunch of them around I would rig up an electric fence charger and run it through a switch so I could be watching when I throw the switch, add beer and hillbilly weekend in the making. But I do like eating them rascals too.
  12. I just go ahead and load with my outboard. Never been caught, some lakes in more populated areas I have heard that yu can't even have a prop on your outboard, but I don't fish them.
  13. Some years on Pomme we see lots of them, by the hundreds, other years hardly any, sems lIke low clear and little inflow conditions are what they like, the big jelly blobs (Bryozoans) are more prevalent this year with long term high water, see lots of photos of them showing up in the Osage Basin lakes this year.
  14. Many State Park Rangers have more than one park they patrol, and they don't live in the parks so at any given time there may or may not be one there. They are also certified LEO's so they do have some statewide authority, however they obviously don't enforce park rules outside the parks.
  15. Sorry to hear about your loss JD, sometimes there are no other choices.
  16. It was maybe 3 years ago now and we had a couple good days on the whites, but a few of them sure looked like stripers, so I sent a photo to one of the Biologists I know and he was the one who told me they stocked them every 5 years, didnt ask how many or where.
  17. Last time I talked to one of the biologists he said they are stocking some stripers every 5 years. The hybrids are ways a nice surprise and the stripes seem to step that up a notch for their size.

    What's Cooking?

The dirty T shirt approval is on tonight's meal. Venison loin from the grill, sautéed squash from the garden, and some corn on the cob from Dollar General since they are the only store left in town.

    What's Cooking?

Well it was expirament time again. Wanted to have some pork sausage for breakfast and in omelette for morning, but didn't have any. Soooo did have a lot of ground venison, thawed a package out and this morning went after it with a variety of spices. Made it patties and put them.in the skillet. Result not bad, I completely forgot to add any kind of fat so it was a little dry but the flavor wasn't bad. Not really sausage plain but not bad. Made some good omlettes, and I had mine on toast with raspberry jelly. I believe it will get me to lunch anyway.

    What's Cooking?

I am fairly old school, steaks up to room temp, usually put a coating of garlic olive oil on them them season fairly heavy and onto the grill for a fast hot sear. Since I like them pretty rarish is the middle it works well for me, sometimes some butter on top, and yes resting a few minutes is important to let it reabsorb the juices. Second choice is a fast sear in a hot cast iron, my choice for lean meat like venison.
  23. Truman is still releasing something like 30K CFS so there is still plenty of water for everyone.
  24. Like many folks my "trophy" fish mostly have nothing to do with huge size. Conditions, friends, location, weird happenings etc. mean more to me than a giant fish. Of course I don't catch any giant fish so maybe I a full of "social media".
  25. You may have already caught it and a big ole flathead ate it.
