  1. I hear you brother, a bare cupboard wears on a man.
  2. Thanks Phil, I was searching for the Newport control stage this morning trying to get a feel for how long the limited generation would last on the BS tailwater. Looks like the area dodged a bullet with limited damage and some inconvenience. Given the fry survival and the imporoved growth rates the extra water probably did more good than harm.
  3. I recall when this was the scene on M Fork and W F Black. I thought those days were over.
  4. Sad day, rest in peace Jim.
  5. When this event settles down we'll have some real nice mid summer flows.
  6. Let hope the access is a small gravel lot with parking for three or four cars and not a paved lot for two dozen cars and I huge sign out front.

    Nice fish. Road Runner?
  8. It would make good compost.
  9. A lot of folks are doing that. I just got invited to a fish fry, all TR smallies.
  10. Anybody who can shoot fire from his fingers like Tim the Enchantor will get my vote. I’ve been fortunate have met some great guys and had some great times with members of this forum, I look forward meeting more. Ness for POTUS.
  11. Is he the dude with the comb over?
  12. I'm lumping this story with the two thirds of media hype that means nothing and deserves to be ignored.
  13. That's the best part.
  14. It was nice to see Garcia pitch so well.
  15. I know TR holds some fine gills but can you find beds and are they ever shallow enough to see? In most good bluegill lakes the fish will spawn in cycles from April to August. I always imagined TR fish started shallow enough to be accessible to a fly rod but about this time of year are deeper than say 8 - 10 ft, which is about my limit for sight fishing.
  16. At least Anheuser Busch or some land and cattle company didn't buy it. It's probably good that the state didn't buy it either, I doubt they could resist developing it.
  17. Thanks for the report. Whenever I try cat fishing all I catch are turtles.
  18. This sounds awfully close to fly tying which is awfully close to fly fishing which is awfully close to trout fishing. Be careful, don't go all LL Bean on us.
  19. When I float with companions down a favorite stretch of head waters I can't help to point out boulders that I use to have to swim to but now sit in six inches of water or deep pools that I could never see the bottom but are now so shallow the only habitat is under the occasional log. Resource extraction and poor land use does provide a short period of economic return but the long term impact only makes our society, our economy and our quality of life poorer.
  20. This situation is pathetic. Haven’t we citizens, the government regulators or the extraction industry learned anything from the last hundred years of lead mining? Who is responsible? Who will answer for this? The answer, no one will. As history has shown the industry employees will bail, the leaders will squirm and weasel and the regulators will have their heads buried in a dark place. Heck, maybe we’ll get lucky and Doe Run will change their name to some other misnomer and donate another toxic state part to the grateful citizens of Missouri.
  21. I took this picture behind our hotel in southern Illinois. Two weeks ago we heard a pretty good roar but seen very few on the water, this weekend the sound were deafening and the bugs were all over the water.
  22. I bought a new 7wt a couple of years ago, if felt good casting in the lot at Hargrove's. When I got it home and rigged it up with reel and line from my old 7wt I could hardly throw a loop. Another visit to the fly shop and a new line with different taper made a world of difference, it's now a favorite rod. For me rod selection is often a matter of dumb luck, fortunately I have been lucky.
  23. Yeah, I like white legs on a slow sinking spider. If I have a hard time seeing the fish take the fly I just wait until the fly disappears. If the light isn't right for sight fishing I'll do a slow strip or switch to a popper.
  24. Everyone in Missouri especially those who love rivers and the outdoors are indebted to Mr Drey. Thank you Leo.
