    Done Well.

You’re darn right you did well, beautiful fish and beautiful river.
  2. I couldn't agree more. I first fished southern Illinois because of a long period of stream flooding in Missouri. I absolutely fell in love with its waters, landscapes and hospitality.
  3. I had to guess at number 2, it looks like Jacks Fork. You almost have to have a view of the river-scape or land features. Water volume and color are too variable.
  4. Al's Five: Meramec River above Blue Spings, Vilander Bluff. Huzzah. Jacks Fork, Chalk Bluff. Lower Current River. Mineral Fork. This is tougher than I thought it would be.
  5. Yeah, last time I went down that stretch you could hardly float a turd.
  6. That’s a tough one, wrong water color for and too small for lower Meramec. The milky color tells me it’s up near Scotts Ford.
  7. Wait a minute, "no bigun's, 19" "only 18". I want to go fishing where you go cause those are bigun's in my book. Thanks for the report and giving me yet another place I must go fishing for Smallmouth.
  8. Looks like This Town is going to be on my wish list, thanks. For about two years now I have had volume 1 of Mark Twains Autobiography sitting on a shelf waiting. I'm not sure why I didn't jump right into it, maybe I was intimidated by its size. I finally picked it up last weekend. What fun, I can hardly put it down. The great American story teller has me hooked.
  9. I got an upgrade yesterday and it's driving me crazy too. I guess younger folks are generally excited about new technology but to me it's just a pain.
  10. Sorry about the smelly boat. Wouldn't it be a little less stinky if the carcasses were left in the water rather than on the bank? Might feed a few crawfish that might feed a few bass.
  11. Great way to get a young man started. To this day I remember the first time I fished, must have been no more than 4. I don't know who set me with an bobber and a worm but I am forever grateful.
  12. We fished the fast water just below a shoal.
  13. Today we used a night crawler on a number 1 circle hook, let half of them go and still have enough for breakfast tomorrow.
  14. Doesn't look like they raised the fine levels since the 1970's.
  15. Funny the way things work out. Last summer we had great fishing on the lower Piney, this year just so so. Who knows you could float a mediocre stretch and have the best fishing of the year. FWIW a few years ago I caught my two best smallies of the season on consecutive cast at the junction of Piney and G-nade.
  16. That stretch of the G-nade will be slower than Meramec. I have floated it many times for the same reasons as you, shuttle availability and a safe place to park. The river above and below would probably have better fishing but shuttles and not having your vehicle vandalized are a high priority. Either way Gasconade is a good choice.
  17. PM sent.
  18. Great report, I tend to piss and moan about what I perceive as problems on Ozark streams but I have to admit we have float trip camping experiences that are second to none.
  19. Nice fish!
  20. It's always been whisker barbed light wire for me. I think the whisker barb may have more to do with penetration than wire diameter. Don't know if I'll ever start using them but I do see a use for using heavier wire to improve sink rate on weghtless baits.
  21. Yep, try as I might to have a "glass is half full" attitude it's hard when the glass is half empty.
  22. Dynamite fishing was an Ozark tradition. Some how we managed to let go of that heritage.
  23. Yep, zen and the art of life.
  24. Don't we have a factory that manufactures Spoonbills. A gift from those who built Kaysinger Reservoir.
  25. I can sympathize with the citizens of the great lakes over the inevitable invasion of Asian's. Apparently big business has more pull than tourism and angling when it comes to closing the shipping canal that will be the path of invasion. Are the great lakes doomed to the same fate? Looks like they are.
