Didn't those guys lose like 82-0 last week? Sounds like a divine intervention in order to avoid a mercy killing. The liberals in the crowd must not been at all happy. Hard to spin, "we're all winners here" out of that deal. Was thinkin - I attended many a high school football game over the years. Been rained on, snowed and sleet on and whatever else Kansas weather can think up this time of the year but remain befuddled by how many games have been called due to lightning in recent years Were we all just that oblivious to the electrical dangers of thunderstorms back then or is this simply and purely atrributable to global warming?

Soooey! THAT should make it all better! What a game! And I (as a KU fan) just earlier today pledged my allegiance to Champ and his Hogs in a lame attempt to have something to vicariously live for during football season! I gotta go buy some gear now! Hope the outcome helped to somewhat assuage the pain of the untimely impalement! I (on the other hand) am thrilled to be unpoked and (sorta) in possession of a winning football team. Is Jayhogs a noun?

Well, gosh, you don't have to be so rude about it! All he asked for was a little advice! Where else but this forum would somebody make an offer like that? Impressive. Another one of the "good guys" for sure.

Hoping so. Heading down on Saturday for a week with the wife. We make it down three to five weeks a year and have been doing this one for almost twenty years now. I always hate it from a fishing standpoint (although "hate" is a relative term. I'm at the lake after all!) but maybe this one has something different in store. If the forecast holds, this will certainly be a pretty unusual trip for us for this time of the year. Definitely way more cooler than most and if the predicted rains come....... Again, hoping it makes a positive difference!

Can you be on both? If so, there might even be another three or four that I qualify for.
-
It pretty much is happening at this very moment.

Cool looking but also looks pretty danged uncomfortable! Wooden seats? Yikes! That wet deck looks like a disaster for us old dudes! Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier! Down goes..........

Well stated. Nitroman is obviously a hard working guy just trying to make an honest living by providing others with a place to enjoy themselves away from the stressors of their own occupations. I hate that he has to endure such frustration brought about through no fault of his own. That being said, I'm as sure as I can be that there is no single person at USACE lying awake at night trying to figure out ways to pile on and make it worse. However, I AM sure that there are numerous folks in high ranking, decision making levels of government that are so thoroughly detached from the rest of us that they routinely pass laws and make policies while having absolutely no idea what the long reaching effects might be. Nor do most of them care. So long as they're satisfying their friends, familes, lobbyists and fellow "whatevers", their lives are good and they go merrily on their way thinking that they're way smarter than all the rest of us. Unfortunately, there's no easy fix or any fix at all for that matter short of a complete overhaul of the system. Small business owners throughout the country are experiencing much of the same thing just through different government channels. I'm afraid that IF a solution is ever rendered, it will be far to late to benefit Nitroman or any of those other hard working Americans that are just trying to find their way in an uphill battle. It's a shame.

Just like Table Rock, LOZ hasn't always been like it is now and twenty years from now neither of em' are gonna be like they are today either. If one is fortunate enough to live long enough, odds are pretty good things ain't gonna stay the same as they were when we were younger. Unfortunately for us older folks, the changes are seldom met with our approval. Something to do with the "good ol' days" I'm pretty sure. Regardless, I've tried very hard to adjust my attitude so as to appreciate my good fortune to still be on this beautiful earth and let the young un's have their fun at the same time. Time is short.

Hey Ben, I'm a big fan so please don't take this the wrong way. However, after 32 years of government service my pension is 25% of my high three year's salary. I know many retired teachers and ALL of them draw a considerably higher pension than I do. The only "equalizer", if you will, is that I qualify for social security benefits and some of them do not. That being said, neither of us is sipping umbrella drinks in the Bahamas!

As I stated, no one will ever change the opinion of those who believe as you do and that's your right. Whether from afar or based upon your own personal experiences, you are convinced that all corps staff are lazy and worthless (my words not yours) which (in my opinion) is inaccurate and unfortunate. That being said, I hope you would agree that government does not have a monopoly on lazy and worthless employees. As a former USACE "bureaucrat" (management analyst) I can't speak as knowledgeably regarding the field staff as most of my dealings with them occurred during site visits (when everyone is on their best behavior) or during meetings and training sessions conducted at the district office. But believe me, they ain't all worthless and lazy. And, for what it's worth, I get pretty much the same treatment that you describe at the customer service counter most anywhere that I go. However, I really am sorry that you are so frustrated and dissatisfied with your situation. Nobody needs so much additional and unnecessary stress added to their life. And I'm not being the least bit sarcastic.
-
Good example right there. Just as well drop the trolling motor upon entering.
-
Good on you for the effort anyway. USACE is kind of like Trump and republicans - the fault always falls there, facts be darn. I'm pretty sure that the corps was somehow involved in Hillary's emails and Benghazi too by way.
-
What he said. I've given up trying to explain/defend USACE. It's a waste of time and effort. Just as well argue politics or religion. People are not going to change their opinions of what the corps has done, is doing or will do no matter what. It's too bad because after working for over 30 years in multiple branches of our exasperating federal government, I can honestly say that USACE is the hardest working, smartest bunch of em' all. And it ain't close. However, congress and state level politicians seem determined to make them look as incompetent as they possibly can at every opportunity. And that's all I have to say about that.

My dad had that same surgery about twenty years ago and it ain't no tonsillectomy. It bought him another 13 years although he was 8 or 9 years older than Larry at the time. I'm glad all apparently went went well for him but he's still got a ways to go regarding the recovery. I'll especially never forget the mental and emotional toll it took on dad which is apparently common with extensive open heart procedures. For six months or so he would break down crying at the most "inappropriate" moments, had drastic mood swings and experienced many occurrences of what I can only explain as or compare to the phantom pain that amputees have to deal with. All the best to Larry. I had two chance meetings with him while at Greer's Ferry back in the 90's and he's among the nicest guys I've ever met.

I've become a big fan of the Nu-Tech jigs and heads, especially the little crappie jig head. I've hung em' a few times but have yet to lose or break one off. Just move the boat over to the hangup and jiggle (technical term) the rod a couple of times and they've always popped right loose. Took me a while to gain confidence in them but I soon became convinced that they're the real deal. I always have a small grub on one of the crappie heads on deck for follow ups. Good stuff Bo!

My momma used to call that "wishing your life away". But I'm with ya - tired of dry and hot. Although down y'all's way ain't exactly been all that dry. I'm ready to move on to the remaining two of the four livable months that we get per year around here. April/May and September/October. Of course you can adjust that up or back a couple of weeks depending on the year but either way four months is about it. Now, keep in mind that twenty or so years ago I thought that there were a lot more "livable" months in the year than I do now. I don't ask for much other than perfect conditions every day, all the time! Well, that and more OA to read during the dog days!

Wow. I've never even heard of this before. That article is pretty amazing. When you look at some of the old, dilapidated docks on pretty much every lake, it's hard to believe this doesn't happen much more often. Typically, there are power wires still strung and hanging all over the place on many of these docks. Not that it's relevant but since the tornado at Kimberling, there's a light pole on the north side of the ramp at the Kimberling Inn that has loose wires hanging down that used to go to the dock that was destroyed by the storm. Always looked kind of scary to me but what I know about that kind of stuff could get lost on the head of a pin. Thanks for posting.

I bet he thought they'd make a good jig trailer or maybe on a C rig. In that case, they gone!

Cholula is my favorite by far. Will check Wally's tomorrow. Last place I expected. Thought it would be some exotic, exclusive never heard of spot! Should have known better. From what I've read here, the Chief doesn't do excess! Thanks!
-
Can I ask where you get these?
-
We DO tend to display rather refined tastes! Actually, I thought they just quit making em' the way they used to. I used to eat them with saltines all the time. After about a twenty (or 40) year sabbatical I tried a couple a few years ago and thought maybe Alpo took over the business! I do, however, still like Hamburger Helper! So I'm not THAT much of a snob!

Better as in not as bad? My Lab won't even eat those things. I guess they'd do if everybody was out of Exlax!

Dang, y'all Hogs is tough! We played here Tuesday and Wednesday and the temp was around 99 with a heat index of 115 both days. Yesterday was forecast to hit 101 so we took a day off since it's supposed to be in the mid 80's for the next week or so. Of course, when the temperature drops a bit this time of the year the dew point usually rises and it's still pretty miserable. Hottest I can remember playing was back in the late 80's, early 90's at Murray State's golf course over by Kentucky Lake. Seems like it was like 108 or 109 that day and not a cloud in the sky. Of course I was a whole lot younger than too! Now days it's more like Mr. Babler has occasionally stated so eloquently, "I just wasn't that mad at em'."
