You know, I saw a football game on tv today too. Can you believe that people are paid millions of dollars to play a game. Just like it is hard to believe that professional video game players exist, it is equally mind-boggling that there are professional fishermen and professional, baseball, football, basketball, etc. players. Video gaming is the next new sport and it is becoming BIG business. There is some crazy money being made in video gaming, both competitively and just by playing and videoing it then posting to YouTube.

It has been a really weird year. I think that perhaps the birds are shifting their migration routes and we aren’t seeing them in traditional locations. 🤷♂️

My fishing partner in training catching her first smallmouth on the creek where I learned to love fishing with my grandpa: Roubidoux Creek below the Highway 32 bridge in Plato, MO.

Want to buy new reel
slothman replied to frenchbritt's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I got a tatula sv last summer on eBay for about $120ish. I really like it and will probably get another if I find myself needing another reel. Other than that, I have really liked my lews reels. -
As I understand it, mud motors do better in the slop where as jet motors are better with a rocky bottom.

It has been a really weird year. I have a buddy that has traveled all over the flyway from Canada to Arkansas and he says the birds just aren’t anywhere. Maybe the migration patterns have changed, but he has been all over looking for them and has never found the numbers like he felt like he should have.

I’ve never done a preserve hunt, but I’m thinking about trying one out in a couple of weeks. We may do a mixed quail and pheasant hunt. There is one in Lockwood and another one down by West Plains. We are thinking of going to one of those.

At Fellows lake, you you to a shed and get a number for a blind for the day. I’ve hunted there before, but haven’t done any good. I suppose that it is like anywhere else: you must be on the X to kill birds. We drove down a long muddy road on the way to our blind and got stuck back there. It was a mess and we worked for a long time trying to get out of there.

I don’t believe so. I researched that about ten years ago and finally decided that I could not. I had heard that at one time, years ago, you could with permission from the city of Springfield, but that it is no longer allowed. If you find out otherwise, or if you learn the secret to gaining permission, please let me know. Good luck.

And when the president was on tv, your night was shot.

What are your fishing goals for 2019??
slothman replied to gotmuddy's topic in General Angling Discussion
Funny. I fish maybe 15-20 days (the term days being used loosely like when I walk to he water and fish for an hour after the kids are in bed), and dream about fishing the other 355 days of the year and my wife complains about all of the time I spend fishing. -
I never seemed to be able to capitalize on a “big fish bite” this year. I had a few decent fish and lost a few really good ones, but didn’t really get into to many really big ones. My biggest fish this year came about a mile away from any water deeper than about 6 feet deep.

I fish main lake points quite a bit. I would say that while I do catch fish on some main lake points with regularity, I don’t think they are significantly better than a lot of other areas I fish. I find that I actually catch more fish with better consistency in the backs. It doesn’t stop me from trying though. I fish points a lot.

I was definitely looking for a duck/fishing boat hybrid for quite a while. I had just about decided that the triton aluminum boats looked like the best fit for what I was looking for. I finally abandoned the idea and got a bass boat. I have a layout boat for duck hunting, but I really think I will sell it and get a john boat so that I can accommodate multiple hunters all together.

Do you know if they have any corn at all this year?

I’ve heard tons of stories about that crazy SOB. That dude is seriously cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs. I’d still be in when a substantial group of guys wants to go troll the dude and stir the pot though.

It is guys like that that make me really want to get a bunch of guys to go and exercise our right to fish there and see just what he thinks he’s gonna do about it. I feel the same way when people try to tell me I can’t fish around their dock. It just makes me want to do it more and invite everyone I know to come fish that dock too.

I just found out that we will be hunting pill #1 at Eagle Bluffs next Sunday (Dec. 22). I hope everything isn’t completely locked up, but it probably will be. Anyone have suggestions about where we should think about going with pill #1 next Sunday at Eagle Bluffs? I’ve only been there once or maybe twice before and don’t really know the area at all.

Sweet! I won’t be getting out this weekend probably, but I think we are probably going to go on the 22nd. My brother got a reservation at Eagle Bluffs that I think we are going to try to use. I haven’t been there in a few years and have no idea what things look like up there, but we’ll figure it out, I suppose.

Very little cover at Grand Pass this year either. Hard to get hidden. If you do manage to kill one, you better hope it lands dead and in open water. Otherwise, it is really hard to find in the scrub.

I have the lifetime hunting and fishing permit. It includes everything except deer, turkey, and the duck stamp (it does include migratory bird). You also still have to buy a daily trout tag if fishing in the parks, but do not have to purchase a trout tag for the streams or Taneycomo. i believe if you have the lifetime permit and move out of state, you are still permitted to hunt/fish in Missouri using your lifetime permit. I asked about that when I purchased it years ago as it was a major concern of mine. The best time to get it is when you are a teenager. I wish I had purchased mine when I was a teen, but I was worried about moving out of state when I got older (which I later learned was a non-issue). It takes a long time for the math to work, but I will save quite a lot of money in the long run. Plus, it makes it much easier for me to go dove hunting or trout fishing. I normally might not get a permit to go once or twice in a year, but now I can go one time in a year and it is no big deal. I don’t have to put any thought into it at all. If I want to go, I go.

The ones I make sell for $3 per jig typically. A little more if you want a rattle. Those tackle hd jigs in the picture are pretty sexy. I like how you marked the black lines on there. I think I’m gonna need to try that myself. What color is that Craw?

Back when I first started teaching before I was married, I used to pray for snow days before Christmas so I could go duck hunting. Those were the days.
