  1. I live and fish the Cape Fair area and it is a rare occasion to see the water patrol boat stationed there out of the stall let alone see them on the water. Ever since the combining the water patrol with the highway patrol their presents on the water has been less. That's why these JERK-OFFS just don't get caught. What we all need to do is program the water patrol's phone number in our cell phones and call them when acts like that occurs just maybe the JERK-OFFS can be caught and let them fund our general state funds or schools.....
  2. It is incidents like that and among other things is why I'm in favor of a boat operator license for all to take a test similar to the state drivers license covering all coast guard rules and state rules and laws govern boat operation, (no grandfathering) before anyone can operate a boat on any lake in the state of Missouri. Including myself although I have had and operated a boat over 30 years there's stuff I don't know right along with everyone else.. Maybe it would do some good?????? Also have a financial responsibility law requiring insurance or post a bond covering liability of medical and property damage before registering a boat in this state. The way it is now you go plop down the $$ for a boat and put it on the water with limited or no experience operating a such craft.... I can hear the cries now if this would become a requirement.....
  3. Well you all need to capture the registration number of the boats that violate the 100 ft rule and turn them in. Also if they damage the dock, boat (swamp), or cause bodily injury report them. These wake boats are causing a lot of damage to the shore line, docks & boats. The fishermen are feed up with the careless manner in which these boats are operated in conjunction to other boaters on the water. The wakes are so high that they wash over the nose of a fishing boat if you don't turn you nose of the boat in to the wake the wake will capsize your normal fishing boat. Remember the squeaky wheel will eventually get the grease.....
  4. I would agree if it is an AC bulb, no way would I do that. Now DC bulb should not present an electrical shock problem.
  5. I've tried BP and haven't tried Cabelas but could not find it at BP. I don't remember what I gave for it I bet it is less than $20 shipped. I use a regular tube uv light, looks like the regular Stren mono florescent under uv light and the white color is great for day time.
  6. There are always more than enough dumb-butt's out on these holiday weekends, there're out for fun so safety and caution can go by the wayside and affect lives forever.....
  7. And PFD's save lives if you use them... I see so many people out riding in a boat with no life jacket on.....
  8. I have heard a lot about you ned rig jig heads that I would like to try some. How do I see what you have and order some of the same?? The Ned Rig has become a real go to lure when hits on other baits have diminished.

    Thanks

  9. I'd say that the most of us at one time or the other has contributed a rod & reel to the bottom of Table Rock Lake
  10. I'd leave but not after a few choice words. I've had this happen so many times lately that I wish for the old days when we/us fishermen respected each other. But this new world of order just sucks.. Give me the good old days where everyone had seats in their boats and used them.. too many $$$$$$$ in the game now..
  11. I agree with closing the bail either by hand or handle doesn't make difference as far as line twist it's going to twist either way. You may catch a loop and prevent a mess on the next cast by closing the bail by hand. If you want to prevent the curly loops that forms in mono and fluorocarbon line change to either Nanofil or braid line, these lines twist also but they don't curl so the line looping is greatly reduced coming off the spool. Line twist is a factor that occurs with spinning reels and spincast reels due to their design on wrapping the line back on the spool. One of the benefit of these 2 lines is the small diameter as compared to mono or fluorocarbon and whether you use a leader or not, tied using an albright knot may or not affect getting bit, I've seen it work both ways, I personally use an fluorocarbon leader. I think that line diameter is the main difference, the larger diameter is easier seen whether it's in the water or not, profile is the key.
  12. That's my contention also on they Need a central and/or multiple weigh in spots. It puts the majority of fishermen toward's one end of the lake in order to do the hourly weigh in's. That puts the person who fish the far upper ends at a big disadvantage. I express that to them and their answer was that being that Bass Pro was their major sponsor the weigh in would be at their facility at Long Creek no ifs or buts.
  13. For the most part I've found that dock owners won't mind if there is a storm brewing and you pull into an empty stall. Also there are a select few who think's that they own the water that their dock sets in. I told one such person that they were lucky to be allowed to have a dock setting on the public's water and I was not on their dock, just fishing around it. So there are a few bad seeds out there.
  14. Go to the MO conservation web site and download the file that gives the waypoints for their brush pile locations all over Table Rock lake including the James River arm of the lake. Those spots will give you areas to try for crappie, they also hold bass in these locations. These waypoints will give you places to try, not every spot will hold fish at times depending on water temperature and depth but sooner or later the fish will be there.
  15. Tonight at midnight let her rip, It will be a busy area tomorrow around the Cape Fair ramp going to get an early start in the morning so as to have a place to park the trailer. Just not enough parking areas at Cape Fair.
  16. I've been using braid to fluorocarbon leaders for 4/5 years now, love it. I have tried several knots and have decided that the Albright knot works best for me. The only got you in tying the Albright is you must put the tag end back through the loop the same way that you came through on the start of the knot and be sure to wet the knot before you pull it tight and trim the remaining tag ends. I use this knot on all of my equipment, spinning and casting reels with Nanofil and braid line. I like a color of braid/Nanofil that I can see as I'm a line watcher. Love the no stretch properties of braid, just set your drag tensions accordingly to prevent hook pull out.
  17. I'll throw this out there, make sure that you are pulling the 12vdc from the engine battery and on its own wiring with the properly sized fuse/breaker and on the opposite side of the boat from the trolling motor wiring. Hope this helps....
  18. I do not know the actual facts but you might check this out. I would suspect that the actual blank is manufactured overseas like most of the items we purchase. They can be assembled in the USA from imported parts. Here is a link you might want to check out. http://www.ripoffreport.com/r/falcon-fishing-rods/broken-arrow-oklahoma-74012/falcon-fishing-rods-stcroix-fishing-rods-hh-rods-made-in-the-usa-broken-arrow-oklaho-319142
  19. Ever since the combining of the Water Patrol and the Highway Patrol there has been less presents on the water. The patrol boat spends at least 75% of the time on the lift at the Cape Fair marina. I would bet that you would find that to be the case at other locations on Table Rock Lake. While the number of boats on the water has increased along with violations due to non-enforcement of the boating laws & rules on navigation on the water.
  20. I'll throw my 2 cents in for what it's worth on my reel setup. 99.9% of the times I turn all of the centrifugal brakes off and set the magnetic on 3 or 4 depending on the lure I am throwing and the wind. I set the spool tension to the point that when holding the rod straight out and releasing the spool to free spool down that when the bait hits the ground I get a wrap or 2 back on the spool. I also use braid line also which enhances the flow of line through the guides on the rod. This setup allows me very long casts which I think is important with the clear water conditions we have most of the time here on Table Rock lake. I also use about 6 ft of Yozuri fluorocarbon line as a leader for all of my rods. Yep I'll get a backlash once in a great while with this setup, usually have to use the thumb once in awhile to slow the spool at the end of a cast. I do use Lew's reels which works for me. Over the past 65+ years of fishing I have used about every type of bait casting reel there is from before the free spool reels to the latest Lew's and so far the Lew's reel is the best for my use..
  21. I've seen it froze up down to Piney and I bet it has frozen past there. So it does freeze if the weather stays below zero for any length of time and it takes an ice breaker to get in at the ramps at Cape Fair and to be able to go anywhere. 2 years ago I fished a tournament out of Cape Fair and had to break 1 to 2 inch thick ice to get past Buzzard. So the river arms do freeze at times.
  22. Great place to live, I have lived here for 6 years now and love it. Being 5 minutes away from having the boat in the water.
  23. You took those words right out of my mouth........
  24. I personally use Lowrance now but I have used Hummingbird flashers and Lowrance & Hummingbird paper graphs in fact I built my first flasher from a Heath kit which worked great as any flasher I have used. I feel that the Lowrance do what I want in a depth finder/fish finder. In this day in time any electronic device you purchase today will be outdated in 6 months. So with that being said as long as your units are doing what they need to do with its technological they'll be fine. It is when they quit is where the problem arises. So service is the main topic and I've had 3 Lowrance units to either quit working due to water leakage, screen dimming, and just not turning on. I have had great service on all 3 units and the turn around time was great. All 3 units 2 HDS5 Gen1's and an HDS10 Gen2 are working great today along with a HDS7 Gen1. The one important thing to do is to register the unit with the manufacturer so you have proof of purchase date and vendor. Don't expect to go on Ebay and purchase a unit from who knows who and expect the manufacture to honor their warranty. Also there will be a drop dead date when they just won't want to fix an old unit and if they do their technology hasn't changed much with the times. Guess bottom line is if it is working for you now fine but when a old unit finally quits it's time to move up to the latest thing going because it will be outdated soon.
