  1. Thought that the truck should cost more than the boat...but that is one heck of a bass boat! Congrats!
  2. 5 wraps, apply egg yarn, 3 wraps, whip finish. McFlyfoam makes the best egg yarn. Dunno if they sell it anymore, but have a lifetimes worth. Ask Laker67 about fur bugs and fur bug yarn. Similar to an egg but better. Beads will outfish any glo ball.
  3. HVO folks are really picky about their lawn, we only go there for the full hookup RV sites. EZ choice with a wife & 2 girls, who can fill the bathroom 26 gallon gray water tank in a blink. India is an ecological disaster area.
  4. You might try the La Rue Pine Hills snake road in the Shawnee National Forest. They close the road in the spring and fall for the snake migration. A buddy was just there and he saw 6 venomous species, and a bunch of non-venomous species to boot.

    Calls!

My host and his buddies will be calling, but they recommended some calls to try. Said practice, and see what you can do. Figure calling em in is more fun than the shooting & the eating.
  6. It can pop up & flood quickly if the ground is saturated. Have had to find higher ground quickly on several occasions on the Current. Little Piney floods quickly too.
  7. Head down to BPS and get some sucker pluckers. Use some thick white line that you can see. A heavy pole and big casting reel should help. Cast out, wait for sucker cross your line near your plucker. Lift & snag one. Any high bank with slack water in front should do. A weight and a big treble will work too.

    Calls!

I don’t have any dekes, but figure will ask to call last as FNG. Is that the right way?

    What's Cooking?

Great lunch in Soulard at Mission Taco today. Wife and me ordered all the tacos. The shrimp taco was the best, but all very good.. Kids got quesilldilas and a torta (smothered sandwich), Did not try the quesilldilas, but the torta would stand out in San Diego. Will be going back!
  11. Think will call the gun man. Steve at Outdoors. Wife wants a smaller carry gun for Xmas.
  12. They do hatch here. It is a nocturnal hatch. Have had them cover our lanterns while camping on the river. A Madame X with a burnt orange chenille body can kick some butt this time of year. Size 6 and 8 on a 200R, also tie in all black, and to imitate a woodland cricket, and hoppers.
  13. Great offer, but staying out! Good luck pilgrims!
  14. Where can I tune up my duck shooting in the STL area in the next 6 weeks?
  15. Bait for trout when legal is fine by me. I don’t fish bait anymore, but Dad taught me how to. A dead minnow is probably the best bait there is. Rig on a jig. Though the mouth, out the gill, get the jig tight to mouth. Measure, then pop in the side so the jig stays flush with the dead minnows lips. Minnow should be on its side so it’s tail will flap when jigged.
  16. Don’t scrub it. Old stuff needs it’s patina.
  17. A change of clothes, a bag of match light , and a lighter in a sealed 5 gallon bucket or dry bag isn’t a bad idea on any float. A buddy in another boat is good to have too. Cover some water on day trips before you do an extended solo trip.
  18. It would be common courtesy to offer to chip in for expenses if someone is using their equipment to cart you around w/o getting paid for it. Gas money, food cost, bring lunch & beer, buy dinner, etc.
  19. Have fun! Can’t wait to run the Paddle Jon on the Niangua, but it’s gotta wait until next year.
  20. I have no idea, but why sign up to be someone’s unwanted drag along? The pro is gonna high hole and have you swinging in the breeze mostly. Maybe you can learn something, but would rather hire a guide or find a mentor.
  21. You having a fish fry, or did you give them to the tweekers?
  22. Break a leg if going!
  23. A buddy makes them but I have no idea why. Does not use them for anything. I do like to take the kids looking for when we see freshly rolled dirt.
  24. Have checked Seaguar’s stuff with a high end digital caliper. It is spot on. +\- 10%. Have not checked all of them, but lots are out of advertised specifications.
  25. You almost always get higher strength for diameter with fly rod tippet spools. It only matters when it is gin clear and your candy is small. Trout will still hit a 4-5” jerkbait in gin clear water tied to 12lb. Kinda funny how guys will tie a fly for an hour, then wear themselves out casting a wet sock all day to imitate a jerkbait or a big jig.
