  1. I camp at Montauk a couple times a year with the family but I cant remember the last time I've fished IN the park..Plenty of good water below the park if you want to base camp and day float or wade.
  2. Mark, I have a trailer too. New full hookup sites were planned for Montauk. Haven't been down there since last Thanksgiving to check on progress.
  3. One is under 50? Not good for your venue but looks like fun!
  4. ONSR is a different model than Wild & Scenic Riverways. Thank the memory of Leo Drey for putting the 11pt under Wild & Scenic v the National Park mass recreation model.
  5. Guess I need to visit my hen trees. Still a few pounds downstairs though.
  6. Was down that way a couple weeks ago. Small red midges were catching. Did not fish the park. Took the girls smallmouth & gogg fishing on the river, kids dis well, but did not wet a line. Water was really low.

    What's Cooking?

Took 2nd Place! Was a horse race. 14 votes for Angie's French Onion, 13 for my entry. No more than 3 votes for any other entry. Quick & easy taco soup...One can each pinto beans, black beans, kidney beans, corn, beef broth, rotel diced tomatoes with green chiles, 2 cans diced tomatoes, 1 pack hidden valley ranch salad dressing mix, 1 pack taco seasoning. 2 lbs of chuck roast diced and browned with the taco season. Deglaze pan with the beef broth. Cook till meat and beans are tender. Crunch up a tortilla chip, add soup, and some queso fresco, cheddar, cilantro, sour cream.....good stuff. Angie said she used Tyler Floence's Ultimate French Onion recipe.
  8. Good for you guys! Looks like a stellar day!

    What's Cooking?

Kids helped decorate the crock pot for the Halloween Soup Party today. Soup on the stove.
  10. Good for you! Do not buy a lotto ticket, that's just a buzz kill, tax on the stupid, and the creator of slow lines at the quickie mart;)!
  11. if it's your first time... I'd rent from Jadwin and camp on the river. Explore a bit. You will find lots of points of interest, the trails, most likely catch some fish. The big ones eat minnow, sculpin, and craw but bring all you have. Tiny dries are always on the menu terrestrials work well this time of year. Good luck.
  12. Great story! You will be telling it for years! Bet you won't remember the fish;)
  13. Maybe count your top 10 to minimize the carnage and the tally duties? Not hard to to catch 50+ a day below the dam.
  14. Seems like a good format. All meet and pick up your stuff, go fish, meet back at same time. Hand ID # on the back of your hand with a sharpie given when you pick up the board. Plus a laminated postcard with same # to put in your photos. Hand# and postcard # in the picture must match our the fish does not count. Anyone could participate, Guess anglers could share a measuring board if they are all the same. Maybe a volunteer our three up by the outlets with measuring boards. That Hagen Hog Trough is 30" long.
  15. Have they made this effort or offered anything in the past 20 years? Nope, they have earned a reputation as do nothing's with a fat budget, but they have finally committed to something here. We can vote to cut funding, and show most of them the door if their recommendations do not meet expectations. Never thought I'd send Jason Smith a check.....but I might. They might be more responsive to hunters and anglers if they had to make their nut on permit fees instead of their 1/8th cent sales tax dole.
  16. That fish is huge! The dudes hands look tiny!
  17. You, me, anyone who submits a comment. They did put high value on public input when they did the trout regs 10-12 years ago. They call it the social considerations. Put in your comments. Follow the process. You definitely won't get what you do not ask for so send yours in. Won't take long.
  18. Made my comments, now I'll wait and see. You don't have to agree with what was proposed and you may not like the result...but they are AT the table for the first time ever. That's a start. Make your comments and see what happens. That is the process.
  19. That looks like a hellgrammite, but they tend to swim backwards like a craw or curl up in a ball when you drop them in the water. Never have had much luck with imitative stuff. A plain old Pat's rubberlegs should do the trick.
  20. You should be fine with your bass tackle. Usually fish a medium jig rod and a medium light for minnow plugs. You can step up to 8-12lb flouro leader if tossing a 3-5" minnow plug . Brown trout aren't shy. Rainbows eat little stuff... Kastmaster our a jig.
  21. True story about Pete's Dad. One of the founding members of Ozark Fly Fishers in St. Louis . Miss his spirit!
  22. Nice fish! It's the Hagen Hog Trough. Bought $20. But the don't float. Fill the back with spray foam then shave it off. Kinda the standard for a catch, photo release, tourney. Looks like Ritchie has measured his fish well. Nose touches front. hand ID for the day #6, and a game day issued photo identifier in the photo (the postcard). Catch, Photo, Release tourneys are easier than you think they are! Weigh ins will soon be on the way out. Length is a better indicator of quality anyway. Eliminates lead sinkers and ice.
  23. How much does it draft....and are your legs in the water? Would not hesitate in a shallow draft canoe or kayak at 80cfs, but would expext to drag and walk a bit. Slower, wetter craft..no go..the wind could make a long day for you, and not much room for fire makings and camp gear if you need it. Try if you must, but pack a way to stay warm & hydrated.
  24. Good for you guys! The first part of that float goes past Portuguese Point, one of the most scenic parts of the Gasconade. Pretty good habitat mostly but some long sucky spots. Did that with Al, Coldwater, & SWMO as a day float on a 95 degree day years ago. 8am to 4pm or so. Overnight would have been better. Think Coldwater got the best one. 17" at the confluence on a buzz bait the size of a small parrot.
  25. Yes...Deer season. We have so few. Could kill a ton of deer on my commute through Ladue. Lots of Turkey too. See a ton between Tilles and Lindbergh to the east & west. North of Manchester, South of Clayton. 8 Turks and 4 deer today.
