Hope it clears up a bit. Would like to get a view of Saturnās rings through my scope tonight. Better shot at that if you live far away from many light sources. Take a telescope out away from light to stargaze tonight. Sb moving SE to SW.
That is a shame! Fried fresh fish, potatoes, and beans is magic! The outfitters up there will usually provide the fryer, fixings, tools, and directions. No harm to eat legal dink fish up there. Very low pressure.
You gotta scout it. Bluegill are done spawning so thatās probably out. Glue up some Ned rigs and let them drag those around in a clear water creek. 1/2ā long worn out Zinker and Senko bits will tear up sunfish on a pond or lake. Weightless on a small circle hook. Rarely snag on anything. Donāt fish, and let them do something else when the are done.
Have more fun Pete! I donāt give a crap about fish pics, unless you have a buddy along to snap a good photo. Might measure the first good one to calibrate my eyeballs.
That slow let it sit retrieve will work. Something will come and take a wack at it. Might be immediate, Might take 15-45 minutes. Dead drift a big fly rod popper on a slow stretch of river and you might be surprised. Can drift that candy for hundreds of yards with good mends. Fly better have some stuff that moves w/o angler input and some that creates some commotion if you choose too. Topwater is fun! Always a puzzle. Fantastic if you nail a good bite.
Boiling Springs on the G. Nade is a reputable Campground. Water has been up but decent shape now. Fishing can be good. Ruby's is upriver, and appears to be nice too. Think what they call Piney Beach is a gravel bar below Devil's elbow. Dont think that is even 5 miles...A mile an hour is kinda a rule of thumb if doing very little paddling.
Head north and your odds are much better. The Namekagon & St Croix R. have a bunch and not crowded. Upper Mississippi is good too. Only 10-12hrs north.
If there is a heaven, Norm is probably pitching a panther martin to some fat Canadian Smallmouth 3-4 days a week. He had a great run. Was fishing Canada w/o a guide at 90.
There is a list of outfitters and free maps on Missouricanoe.org. I would start with some 5-6 mile weekday day trips before you try an overnight trip. Canoeing is not difficult, buy a book and watch YouTube vids to familiarize yourself with basic paddling techniques, bring a rope to line your boat through anything you donāt feel confident floating and go do it. Your confidence and skill will improve over time.
Yāall been busy! Think Iām gonna skip tonightās party, And the one on Sunday. This town parties hard! Many faux Stanley Cups getting chugged. The Cardās will be thrown under the bus when the town sobers up around Tuesday at 2 pm.
Buy that book, then join the Missouri Smallmouth Alliance. Show up to a meeting and you will probably meet several people that will take u floating/fishing. A jet is better on the lower river, but you can float it too. You will be driving west on I-44 to fish mostly.
Buzzbaits work too. Only 2 topwater were on a buzzer last Saturday. Was really slow. Fish seemed to be scattered. Donāt think that I caught more than 3, but 2 on top. Had to mow allot of willow weed and work through some tree tops to do that but not much working.
