  1. The Fluer de Li is really good at the Carousel Bar. My wife really liked that on our last Nola trip.
  2. Thanks for the tip on the Monkey. It's hard to find a good blend. Love bourbon too, and I make one heck of a Sazerac!
  3. Rebreast is pretty good, but I like Scotch better than Irish. I like Speyside scotches the best if you are buying. Islay's (Laphroig, Lagvullin, Caol Isla, etc.) don't appeal to me. .
  4. Just hoping for some stable weather & water levels. The stars and my calendar have only aligned a few times for prime topwater river smallmouth fishing. Looking for hot & stable for a bit...then some fun fall fishing.
  5. Buy a cast net and catch all you want.
  6. Had a purple crème worm with the spinner & beads on it...never caught anything with it.

    What's Cooking?

    Yesterday's bait, tomorrow's plate!
  8. Burn some gas, the old fashioned way. Ton of access on that creek.
  9. Dunno...some kind of gourd. My daughters planted some watermelon seeds from a spring bbq in the yard w/o telling us..6 melons so far...Only crop that did well this year.
  10. http://modot.org/newsandinfo/documents/countymaps/crawford.pdf Plenty of places.
  11. Did get an email from the Head of Fisheries today. He is sticking with the proposal. Not willing to move forward on the Current River at this time. At least we will get allot more 1/15 water this round. Not budging on other issues citing , realistic expectations, lack of data. Don't have any choice but to take all the new 1/15 water offered. Move your wish list to a five or ten year goal and go fish. Convert a few meat heads into anglers while you are at it.
  12. Current river tourneys don't appear to be much of anything. 10-20 boat boat sausage fests a couple times a year. 3lbs might get you big bass. No big deal. Seems like an excuse, not a reason to ignore their data.
  13. Esox like slack water with wood and weed when shallow. Eleven pt has a bunch of chain pickerel if you want a local toothy critter. Shallow Bluegill crank baits do the trick reliably, or a stick bait. A 12" 25-30lb flouro bite tippet is usually enough for chains, but would step it up to 60-100lb for pike or musky...or use wire.
  14. Nice catch! Buddy of mine is guiding at the Old Baldy Club in Saratoga this year if you need some fishing intel.
  15. Cryptic....
  16. The STL7? Who are they? Didn't know there was a club. Spoondog hit the nail on the head again. The process appears to be poorly documented, and was not transparent. They why, and the who questions have not been answered. They were very talkative about the Current SMBMA. Then it dissapears? They built up expectations, delivered less, and ran away IMO. Huge Customer Service & PR fail!
  17. I'd eat the Nathan's or the Hebrew National's....but Bar S is for catfish.
  18. Love double buzzers twin and triple spins. No brainer. I'm sold.
  19. Sounds like a fun road trip. Wife and me like to stop at the abbey in Arcadia when we roll through. Food is good and it's fun to walk the grounds. Think they rent rooms to, but have not stayed there.
  20. No worries. Will have some friends along to self shuttle and the folk's at Carr's are right down the road @ Round Spring. Sink in creek runs through there. Nothing worth fishing but the sinks are kinda cool. Creek actually runs through a bluff. In one side out the other. Barren fork is not far if you want to catch small wild trout.
  21. Have a reservation there. Nice to have a full RV hookup in that area, but think we will be floating outside of Echo Bluff when we visit. Think they have only been open for a week. To soon to tell.
  22. Sounds like a ton of fun and some nice fish to boot! Good for you guys!
  23. The Eleven Point has very predictable flow but small gravel bars. Greer Spring to Riverton is always floatable unless its in flood stage, and you will want to hike down to Greer Spring. Best scenery on the Jacks is between the Prongs and Rhymers IMO, but plenty of gravel and great scenery along the entire river...Would do the Prongs down if you have over 200cfs on the Mountain view gauge but that is not likely that time of year, Would start at Alley Spring that has enough flow. The Current would be another good option. Its usually pretty low on the upper end in the fall, but there is always plenty of water from Welch Spring on down. Lower Buffalo would be a great float too.
  24. Write your own...but feel free to borrow...
  25. Best we can do now is email the Commissioners, take the good stuff, and demand a do over. Commissioners Mr. David W. Murphy Chairman Mr. James T. Blair IV Vice Chairman Ms. Marilyn J. Bradford Secretary Mr. Don C. Bedell Member Click on there names to contact them at... https://mdc.mo.gov/about-us/conservation-commission/current-conservation-commissioners August 8, 2016 Dear I am writing to express my disappointment with the proposed changes to the Smallmouth and Rock Bass regulations that were approved at the August 4, 2016 meeting of the Missouri Department of Conservation Regulations Committee. It is my understanding that these proposed regulation changes will be on your agenda for your August 26, 2016 Conservation Commission meeting and my comments on the proposed changes are as follows; I fully support the Regulation Committee's proposed changes to the Rock Bass Regulations. I do not support the Regulation Committee's recommendation to maintain the existing minimum length limit (MLL) of 12 inches and a daily limit of 6 fish for Smallmouth Bass statewide. The public input that the Fisheries Division solicited clearly suggests that anglers want an increased MLL, and a decrease in the daily limit. I would ask the Commission to direct Fisheries Division to review the public comments that they received and provide a better recommendation to the Regulation Committee during the next regulation cycle. I fully support the proposed expansion of the Smallmouth Special Management Areas (SMBSMA's) on the Jacks Fork, Big Piney, Meramec, and Big Rivers, and would urge you to approve those changes. I did not see a recommendation for a SMBSMA on the Current River in the departments email describing the proposed changes. Fisheries division personnel have publically stated that their sampling data supported the establishment of a SMBSMA on the Current River and most anglers seemed to be in favor of the proposal. What happened? Was it omitted from the departments email or omitted entirely? If a proposed SMBSMA on the Current River is included in the recommendations please approve it. I do not support the statewide decrease to a 15" minimum length limit (MLL) on the Jacks Fork and Gasconade SMBSMA's. The departments Public Input Summary clearly indicates significant angler support for the 18" MLL on those fisheries, and probable support for an 18" MLL in all of the SMBSMA's. In addition, the 18" MLL should be expanded into the new SMBSMA on the Big Piney river. There was no proposal to limit harvest of migratory Smallmouth Bass on the Black River. Smallmouth Bass migrate out of the Black River into Clearwater Lake during the winter months and they receive significant harvest pressure . Please direct the Fisheries Division to provide a proposal to address this issue during the next regulation cycle. There was no proposal to limit the harvest of smallmouth bass during the winter months. The departments own studies indicate that river smallmouth bass migrate great distances to congregate near large springs during the winter months. The fish are concentrated then, and they are very susceptible to harvest by legal methods and by unscrupulous giggers. Please direct the Fisheries Division to provide a proposal to address this issue during the next regulation cycle. What is the value of having public comment process, or the purpose of paying biologists to do surveys and attend public meetings when the public's comments are entirely ignored? Most anglers seemed to support a 15" MLL and a 3 fish daily limit or a more restrictive statewide regulation. Where were the comments in support for the status quo? I've written many letters to legislators to support the efforts of the Missouri Department of Conservation, and the Conservation Sales Tax over the years but the process that the Fisheries Division managed to improve Smallmouth Bass regulations has been a disappointment to myself and to many of avid anglers that I associate with. Hopefully, the Fisheries Division and the Regulations Committee will address some of these open issues during the next regulations cycle and prove themselves worthy of my ongoing support and the support of other avid anglers in the State of Missouri. Sincerely,
