    What's Cooking?

Good for you and happy birthday! Will have to have the Fields clan by for a swim & some BBQ again soon. Haven't cooked much in the past 5 months, but need to get going again. Did some slap together kabobs tonight. Not bad for 15 minutes of work.
  4. Great write up. One correction. Saranac Springs has been out of business for years. Property is still intact but it's owned by a friend of a friend. Have visited a few times but it's strictly private with a caretaker on site.
  5. Mineral to Boiling Spring is a pretty decent float, Boiling Springs CG usually puts in at Sandy Shoal Ford, so you wont see many folks on the upper half of that float and the traffic from Boiling Springs isn't that bad. The shuttle prices were very reasonable last time I used them, but I understand that the CG is under new ownership. I would avoid 6x down to Ross Bridge. Its a pretty float, but It can be a zoo on a warm weekend. Allow plenty of time for swimming, rock throwing, crawdad gathering, etc. My girls (6&8) tend to get bored if we don't stop every 15-30 minutes.
  6. Tedeshi Trucks band! Have not been to Nawlins for Jazzfest in awhile but what a great time! Gotta go next year.
  7. Sounds like my kind of float trip. Did upper a couple weeks ago in the snow. Caught fish on wood in slack nothing looking water. Would be fishing tomorrow but hate canoe camping in the rain. 2 degrees and snowing is fine though. Need some more craws and jig heads Mitch. Plus need to go fish. Joe, Mitch, SmallieB....finally have some availability.
  8. No money in weed (drive to CO). All heroin these days.
  9. Nawlins Jazzfest is on AXS this weekend. Cyril Neville & Swawp funk had a great set.
  10. Good for you! Turkey hunting is not that easy.
  11. Good for him! Tasty fish and they fight hard.
  12. It's a stupid name for a hybridized bass. It's a term used by gapers and 5 gallon bucket sitters. Not calling you one of the aforementioned, just hate non-specific language.
  13. All you need is a chartreuse Sneaky Pete (size 2) and some Sparleminnow's in pearl olive & brown size 4 & 2. Shenk's or a tampon fly for fluke type fishing 2 or 1/0. And some big blockheads dressed Sneaky Pete style with for dead drifting & twitching. Resist the urge to pop a sneaky Pete or blockhead popper on slack water. Gurglers work well when stripped fast over riffles. Same with crease flies and pencil poppers.
  14. You will want a good reel and a light tipped rod if tossing light stuff on a caster. Can toss 1/8oz on just about any casting rod but your not gonna get distance. JDM market has a few that might work better for light lures but pricey stuff.
  15. Nice fish! I'd guess that its around 6lbs...I figure that 20"=4lbs & 22"= 5lbs unless the fish is exceptionally fat or skinny.
  16. Pricey stuff. If you can get a dozen or 20 tails I'd take and die a couple in 3 colors.

    What's Cooking?

Pretty good last night. Two nice ribeyes, morels, salad, and perfectly baked potatoes. Bottle of Caymus to go with. The Caymus was a nice treat, love that wine. Everything spot on but nothing blockbuster. Kids and wifey picked the morels. Bunch of fun with the girls. Mushroom hunting was done for them in 20 minutes, but both found one. Momma got the shrooms while girls played in the woods for 3hrs.
  18. How much do you weigh? That's an awfully little boat. You will be allot happier with a 14-15' solo.

    21-inch smallie

    Sweet!
  20. Guess you should stay home then.

    Big M

Clicker? No thanks. I don't count or calculate on my free time.
  23. Like shad colors mostly on bigger rivers when the water is up a tad. They stay deeper than spinnerbaits of equal weight. not a bait to load the boat, but it catches better than average fish mostly.
  24. Never have fished SW Missouri but I don't see many 20" fish pics from those streams. Thinking the Gasconade, Meramec, and James drainages should be on your list. Current, Eleven Point, & Jacks Fork too. The Castor is a weird one. It's a waisting stream, meaning the flow goes underground for long stretches, and it's air clear. Long walk or a drive and a long walk to find small areas that hold fish. More LMB than smallmouth usually but the shut in a Amidon is worth the trip.
