This Is What I Found In My Garage Today When I Got Home...
junkman replied to moguy1973's topic in General Angling Discussion
Looks allot better then the junk you would find in my garage. nice find. -
I thought I would post a question my brother had for those that know more about them. My brother was given a $2000.00 gift card for Cabela's from his boss and was wanting to get a catfish rod and reel. He was wanting to buy a Abu Garcia 6000 but did not know the difference in craftsmanship and quality between the C3 and the C4. he asked me but all I have are the older ones so I told him I would post a tread on here. I know there are a lot of smarter fishermen then I.

welcome to the forum Paul. Yes it is always nice to have anothers input into fishing and hunting topics. And if you have not already seen, you soon will. we might sometimes take advice with a grain of salt. But in the end for the most part we all agree to sometimes disagree. sometimes we don't get enough fishing done especially during winter so have to have someway to release our frustrations. welcome again and I know you will fit right in.

Only 7 yards? Wow I shot a 44 magnum one time to see what it was like and hit within the lines at 30 yards. might have just been luck or the gun.

Snake Season Is Around The Corner.
junkman replied to Feathers and Fins's topic in General Angling Discussion
I might throw out a solution to the problem of rotting flesh from a snake or spider bite. A charcoal poultice placed on the bite and changed every few hours will draw the poison out without the rotting effect. My aunt got bit by a Brown Recluse a few years ago when one had crawled into a towel, she could fill the burning sensation beginning and seen the area beginning to turn red. all she did was start putting the charcoal poultice on it for about a week and all symptoms went away without a trace of a scare. I had a old women tell me see has been bit many times by a recluse but always put a slice of red potato on it with the same results. Don't know if I would try it when I know that the charcoal works though. -
I would love to take my boy and nephew on a over night float trip down a Ozark stream. it would be a new experience for all of us. Would be nice to catch a few new species as well. around hear, all we have are muddy pond and river species. Last year was the first time I caught a small mouth and now hope to catch a few more this year. Would be nice to go and visit Lilley and as well try my hand at an Ozark trout. Have only caught a few little wild ones in NC. so even a 12 incher would be great.

Drew 03, I have been building the new house on the property adjoining La Cygne lake. My brother is the ranch manager there and yes it is prime habitat for a big cat. The farm there is 3600 acres and some pretty rugged country for Kansas. Been wanting to scout out some of the rock outcrops south of the lake for any signs, but have not had the chance yet. maybe better wait till the new litters are born right? My sister in law said something about a pair of cats were seen killing some horses somewhere out in Kansas but don't know the details.

All this is new to me. Never heard of them before. Remember putting many a mile behind a cane pole though. Sounds about like a setup I use. 9 ft. 6 wt fly rod with a little zebco trigger real. When one is a little to large I can give him some line. Sure is fun to use for i haven't perfected the art of casting a fly rod the right way. I mainly use my setup for bass, crappie and bluegill for I have no trout in my area.
-
With the experience I have had catching grass carp, I would hate to tangle with one on a fly rod. Want to know the truth, I have never landed one. The ones I hooked into when young went probably 40 or 50 lbs. But boy were they fun to try and land.

Al, your right. They didn't say any thing about a breading population but that Missouri had some cats. And like someone said the MDC does acknowledge that they are here. But actually they have been wandering through for many years. A question I have concerning cats is, where did all the bobcat go? 20 years ago I seen a bobcat at least once a week but now I haven't seen one for many years. Maybe the big cat chased the little cats off. that's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

If I was misinformed then NPR was misinformed. for I don't go to coffie shops let alone listen to the mans gossip. I don't even go to the barber shop for that fact. but I do know I heard it on NPR. Also if you look at the cat killed in Connecticut it was scanned for a implanted tracking device so it looks as if they do implant them. I seen the tracks of a black on 25 years ago around here. would not have believed it but it was my brother in law that seen it. And since I am a true Missourian, I had to see it to believe it. So I asked him to show me where he had seen it, was which he did. biggest cat track I ever saw.

the public radio station a while back ran a piece on the cat that was found up in the New England states and it said that some of the closest cats were in Missouri. So I guess they got some info from someone.

Just north of me a few miles one had been sited many times but it seems it found it's self in the wrong place at the wrong time for it got a bullet from someone. whoever it was did it right by shooting shoveling and shutting up. but mysteriously it was dug up by the conservation department leading all that herd about it to believe it had a tracking device implanted in it in order for them to be able to find it. So it sounds to me like they know something that they are not letting people know.

I think i might have a electric fishing reel out in the shed. Then you can fish with one hand and reel them in to. Just a thought and good luck

Boat Axle Repair/sales
junkman replied to packersooner's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I think you have a Red Neck brake down your way. They should have what ever you might need. I have fixed some totals in the past but a new one should be $150 or less. -
When a kid I always herd stories of some states outlawing sweet anise extract from being used as a sent agent. I have no idea if the stories were true but it did get me to save a few dollars to be able to go to the drug store to get some. My personal evaluation, works under the right conditions. For the most part I seen no difference but i do distinctly remember one drizzling day going to a secret pond with some river worms. Thought I would try catching one of the few 2 pound blue gills that lurked beneath. But the fishing was dead, not even a bite. could have been that the wind was out of the east but I figured I would try putting some anise on my worm and see if it might help. First cast bam a 1 1/2 pound bass. again casted and bam. i lost count of all the bass I caught that day but is was non stop till the worms ran out. Some might argue that there is no scientific proof that it works, and I can't give you none as well, but I can say it did turn a miserable fishing trip into a great one for a 12 year old boy many years ago..

Finally Decided On A Boat!
junkman replied to LittleRedFisherman's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Thought I would at least congratulate you on your boat choice, and also say welcome to the forum. I don't know much about the boat you chose, but from reading this forum I think you will be pleased. You will have to keep us updated on any pro's or con's so we all can be better informed. Enjoy and again welcome. -
Probably the problem was the opposite. It was probably that the deer was running and they just unloaded just trying to get a kill. could even be that it didn't go down so they keep shooting. Seen a guy pump seven rounds into one thinking he had missed. All he had left was hamburger.

"When stripers are surface feeding, Cast them right to the fish and reel them as fast as you can." That sounds very familiar to fishing in Florida LOL. We would watch till we could see the school coming and everybody would get ready. Then everyone would cast and yes reel as fast as you could. wild to see 7 or 8 fish chasing your lure as you reel like a madman. was pure de fun. Thanks for all your expert advice.

Pflueger Trion Gx-7 Great Reel!
junkman replied to Fredrick's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Found one mounted on a rod at a flea market a while back. it showed signs of use but 8 dollars for the combo i figured it would work great for behind the seat pole for those quick stops. I two was impressed. I am no fan of the bail reels but it does work nicely. -
It definitely isn't any good for musky, pike, shark and tarpon to name a few but there are a few species that seem prolific in those waters. Or maybe it isn't a secret but just a myth. Could be that Nessy the lockness monster keeps them thinned out.

I know what your saying Heisenberg. I look at those fish and drool. As I have never caught one It almost makes me want to go and buy a out of state license and head down that way, but I know I would not have very good success.
