  1. Sorry to hijack, but it is kind of relevant.. I have been searching for a commercial that was played in the early 90's. 2 old men were fishing in a boat trying to catch "Bubba". At the end, "Bubba" was pulling them across the lake. I believe it was a beer commercial. Can anyone tell me what product it was. I am trying to find the commercial to show my boys. I always tell them "we are trying to find Bubba".
  2. Awesome job Phil. I was worried about your rod handle for a moment or two.
  3. The car reference was to keep anyone from saying you are required to buy auto insurance. Per the current law, hospitals are only required to treat life threatening situations. Somehow that has been taken advantage of. I agree with the idea of let them die. I know it seems hardcore, but when most can buy whatever they want, but choose not to take personal accountability, because someone else will pay, I quit caring. Many charities will come out and pay when the government won't.
  4. I also recieved a check in the mail. Mine was for $65.74. In my eyes, the system is broken, and they could have kept the check and used it to make much needed corrections. I am in the Insurance Industry( just sales, I do not have any pull one way or another), and would like to inform the "common man" that insurance companies are a business, not a charity. If you do not want to deal with them, if the price is to high, you have an option. You are not required to buy insurance of any kind. .....you are not required buy a car...... In my opinion, government should not have any control in private business. In the "humane" Country we live in, we do not require grocery stores to give you quality food at an affordable price (or free), so why health insurance? Best I can make out, even the healthiest person needs food to survive, and not everyone qualifies for food stamps. (another story all together). I have saved much money by having health insurance, and I too have pre-existing conditions, but I don't feel that the taxpayers should be required to pay for my medical situations. We are taking away any personal accountability, while common sense is quickly dissapearing.
  5. South of st louis got a good rain. I don't have a gauge, but something if better than nothing.
  6. That was cool. Too bad they will not have the World Record, but good for them just the same.
  7. Wow, your desktop is clean, both of them...
  8. WOW, it is amazing that they are allowed to still use the bridge, if it is in such need of replacement. Neat submission.
  9. A simple solution to the problem of animals getting into fruit for the water is to put a water dish out away from your garden/trees/ect. The animals will drink from the dish and are less likely to ambush your items.
  10. Powerful.
  11. Congrats.
  12. I was thinking the same thing when I first read it. I believe I read this about 6 mos ago or better, kinda thought I was experiencing Deja Vu. Glad to see someone else read it before.
  13. Boat newb, I understand your argument. It really seems that whoever selected the age group to begin the policy on, wasn't considering those who have been of age for an extended time. Also, your question is not, I feel, out of line. Sure, maybe she did not have the answer, but she could have politely explained that to you.
  14. Thanks for posting 3inone, hope you get better results tonight.
  15. Good thread. I like to hear of the good things, all to often we rant about bad things and the good ones get lost. Good job Falcon!
  16. What a good question, and great discussion. I have only done the hikes in the state parks, never really an overnight hike. Thanks to this discussion, I may change that.
  17. I work part time in the Lawn and Garden center at a local box hardware store. The most common economical thing we sell is Kentucky 31 tall fescue. You may be able to get a better deal on it (3/4 acre is gonna use a few hundred pounds of seeds) at a farm supply. You will surely want to use straw if you do it and you will need a bunch of that also. With straw, you will have to rake it up once the grass takes. You can buy seed matts, and they work great, and decompose on their own but they are not cheap. A tip from an old man years ago, wait until the first snow, to sow your seeds. I cleared an area behind my house and had to seed it. I waited until the forecast showed a couple of days of rain, and spread the seeds just in the beginning of the rain, and let nature do the rest. I did it about 5 years ago, it looks great even now. As far as fertilizer goes, I would try an area without it, and see how well your soil takes your seed. Fertilizer works great, but alot of soils do not need it, but people buy it anyhow. I don't like using chemicals in my lawn. There are also alternatives to fertilizer, and they work as good, I am just not a fan.
  18. OK, so I have bought a used baitcaster setup. Got it very cheap, but have never used a baitcaster. I have seen them used, watched a few youtube videos, and went out to try it out. I was able to cast it and it retrieves amazingly. Of course being new to this type of reel, I am not sure of all of the settings. I plan to use this in bass/crappie/gill fishing. It is an Abu Garcia reel, and did not see any direct markings on it. It has a star type drag adjustment and a turn knob on the same side as the retreive handle, and a dial knob on the opposite side. As most will know, I am having some backlash problems, and with out a manual, want to know if anyone could give me some tips on "fine tuning" this reel. I know that most will be figured out with more practice. When side casting I use my right hand, and release just early, as I would with an open face, or spincast, and am usually confident in where I am placing my cast, I am crossing myself and going way to the left. In other words, if I want to cast to the right of my right shoulder, somehow, I am casting in front of me or slightly to the left. When forward casting, going directly over my shoulder, I seem to cast about 10 feet in front of me and, then I get a good birds nest. Any tips are GREATLY appreciated.
  19. Big boys, and a big fish. Nice post.
  20. simply whole kernel corn, dipped in vanilla extract ( the cheap stuff ). I specify whole kernel corn, because a friend of mine was to "bring the corn" when we were kids, he went in his pantry and brought cream style corn. Lets just say, we did not catch any fish that day.
  21. Just some info from my hunters education class... "Snakes are protected in MO, you can kill it if it is a direct threat, but only if it is a direct threat. Other wise killing snakes in MO is illegal." Here is a link from MDC http://mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/outdoor-recreation/nature-viewing/amphibians-and-reptiles/snakes And to all who did not know, Black Snakes are GOOD to keep around. They do not pose a threat, and they eat rodents. The same rodents that would probably eat your siding or the wires on your car.
  22. Advance to 3:15. Now I see why so many on here are blasting Jet Boats. I didn't realize this was even possible. Bad News.
