  1. Good read. Thanks.
  2. Woo hoo! You guys are great. (Meant in all sincerity). You just don't realize how much of an impact on the lives of others that you have when you do things like this. The participants will never ever forget what you did for them, no matter how small it may seem to you. I have been helped many times in my life, and thank you for doing this and encouraging others to help. :-)
  3. Looked like a neat place. Nice water, and good company, what more could you ask for. My FIL is a golfer, not a fisher. I am not a golfer. Oh well, we come together at the dinner table.
  4. Flatheads are excellent fighters, never ate one though. Love me some channel cats.
  5. Well, it seems that you and I are talking about the same place. .. hope you did well. There is also an access off of Hwy A just before Hwy P if you are going towards Hillsboro. It is just a bridge, but during high water in the spring, you can shuttle to West City Park.
  6. Sure, I-55 south to Herculaneum, make a left (east) on McNutt. Take to Hwy 61/67 or also called Commercial Blvd go left (North) to Joachim Ave approximately 1/4 to 1/2 mile on right. Make the right go through the park, cross the bridge that goes over the creek, access is on the right. Gravel parking lot, ramp is to the left. Google maps puts the intersection at Joachim Ave and Brown Rd. Gonna look up Bates MemorialPark, haven't heard of it.
  7. Yes, west city park in Festus, Doe Run Access in Herculaneum, and Walther Park in DeSoto. The creek has been low,but it is flowing decently right now thanks to the rains.
  8. Very sorry to hear. Stay strong.
  9. How do you quick freeze?
  10. I would be in the market for a 410 at a reasonable price. I picked up a 20 gauge youth model Rossi, but it kicks as hard as my 12 gauge Mossberg. My son wants to shoot, and likes shooting my dad's 410, but dad won't part with it. The ones I have looked at are pricey. Can't justify the price for a rabbit/squirrel gun. Yes up around here, you use a shotgun for squirrel, mostly all conservation areas have a "no single projectile" rule.
  11. That you did it with your daughter does increase the value. Thanks for replying.
  12. What's a grand slam require? Congrats to you on it just the same.
  13. Happy birthday Phil.
  14. I try to stay out of these conversations. That being said, the question that follows is not a stab at anyone, anything, or to be taken personally or politically. We are constantly updating our technology and admitting that yesterday's technology is not accurate. How can we really trust the information that has been recorded 100 years ago, and compare it to the information we collect now? When doing science experiments you need to keep all items consistent, except for controls. I am not sure we are comparing apples to apples.
  15. Best of luck. Sorry to hear about your dad, glad to hear he got to pass at home. I believe as you, he will be with you. I have not shot anything with a bow besides targets and backstops, can't be of any help in that area. Practice before you go out, you lose a lot just in one year, not to mmention 20.
  16. A little far for me, I really am glad that you are posting this. I am very active in scouting with my two boys. Any of you all that are close to the area, you cannot get a better feeling than helping these kids. Get out and help.
  17. My visit to Montauk last year turned out the same as your Bennett Springs trip. I feel your pain, seems to me fishing stories are similar to gambling stories, you only hear about the positive trips. Keep your head up, keep your line wet, have fun doing it. Don't take these negative posts to heart, I have to admit, I wondered in the beginning, but your adventures are interesting.
  18. There are a ton of them in the public pond in Festus. They come up at dusk, too many to count. Carondelet park in south St Louis used to have quite a few. One of the best baits we used was whole kernel corn, we dipped it in imitation vanilla. They give one heck of a hit, so don't lay your rod down, pole holders and drag are your friends. Don't yank them to hard to set the hook, you will rip it out of their mouths.
  19. I went fishing this evening, had a few hours after work while the wife and kids were out at her friends house. I have a park with 3 small ponds. I know that one is stocked, it is connected to another via a overflow with a driveway going in between. I started fishing in the "stocked" pond, using my nearly new Pflueger reel, and 10 pound test P-line CXX. ( 8 was the advice given on the forum, but 10 was all I could find local, they were out of 8 and I was ansy. Not a fan of X-marts). I have not bought a decent rod, but had one that would work for the time being. I have used this setup probably a total of 4 times at 1 hour per time, and 10-20 minutes of actual fishing. I have 3 kids (4, 7, and 14), and they get lots of snags. Back to the fishing, I had one on, a small bass right about 10 feet from me. I go to set the hook, and it gets off. I am using Chompers Green pumpkin Ultra Tube Garlic and Salty. This was the only action from this pond, along the rock bank. I went to a less fished pond, it is used as a runoff pond and full of Carp. I got down to the pond around 6:15 and the carp were feeding on the top, they were not even spooked by me. I casted for about 15-20 minutes along the banks, across the pond, around some trees, nothing. My wife calls, we're talking about what went on throughout the day, then wham!, I caught one, a nice one. Been a long time since I had this kind of pull on the line. I was very happy, told the wife I had to call her back. Took a few pics and his is swimming as I type. .....tried multiple times, but apparently my pics are too large. It was right at 16 1/4" , nice fish and I hope to catch more.
  20. cool, thanks for letting me know.
  21. Where would you get a 30 amp breaker for a trolling motor? I am guessing it's a specialized part. I am asking because I only use a trolling motor on my 10 foot Lowe flat bottom and have read about the need before.
  22. Beautiful area, lots of people, but you can find somewhere to get away from the crowd. Check out elephant rocks park also.
