  1. What is really complicated, is trying to straighten out a solid piece of 30# monofilament. It isn't truly "furled", but it's just as good, and allows you to adjust and modify for your specific style of fishing.
  2. Oh I can think of worse ways, but that seems to be what Babler feels needs to be done by everyone.
  3. Hard mono tapered/or hand tied leaders suck. Learn to "roll your own" and you'll never fuss over leaders ever again. I use Trilene XT and Trilene XL either 8# or 10# (depending on whether I want it hard or soft). XT for warm water stuff, and XL for more delicate trout crap. Then add a flourocarbon tippet. My leader length just happens to be the distance that I can just barely stretch between my two hands (about 70"). I then add a tippet of 24-36". So as long as I have a spool of line I can whip one up in about 4 minutes. If you do it right you can cast a fly of any size with no rod or flyline at all, using only your hand.
  4. If it were me I would head straight for the backend shallows. The bigger and wider the backend shallows are, the more fish are likely to be there. Once there, kill the motor and just stand in the middle of the boat and look around for awhile. Eventually you'll notice some kind of activity, a fish will break water, a school of baitfish will flush, or you'll notice that all the water birds are within a certain section. When you perceive a clue.....go there and start fishing. If you get an idea in your head, like "I should try a spinnerbait".....do it immediately. The sooner you work through the process of elimination the sooner you'll have a limit of keepers.
  5. I'll guess the 3 grays.
  6. I see one Trump supporter in that boat. Hope you were decent to him. 😊
  7. Fly swap fly's. 😂
  8. The channel cat will run up the creek this month if we get enough rain to bring the creek up a bit and muddy it. When it clears back up there will be a week or two where you can sight fish to schools of channel cat up to 4-5 pounds. It's a blast when you hit it right. I use a yellow dip bait worm so I can see it on the bottom. When you see one go over and stand on his head by that worm....set the hook. I'm sure it works on every decent sized feeder creek as well, but I've only done it here in Gravois creek, and on Big Buffalo creek.
  9. Darn near every good fly pattern we know of is stolen. Only a few defy the ability to be stolen, because if you change anything at all the fly looses its effectiveness. A Clouser minnow would be a good example. You can add synthetic hair instead of bucktail....but you still have to call it a Clouser.....and it will not be as good of a fish catcher.
  10. When it's the "plop" that matters, you can't beat a foam hopper or beetle. Feathers, hair, and fur just don't land like that. Fish that see foam bugs everyday though..... I'm sure they can get wise to it.
  11. LM Bass are a blast on the flyrod when you can get them to eat topwater stuff. I still haven't had my day with that fly. I have a mental hangup about it. It's effective though, sure enough.
  12. I'm not saying that you're wrong, but that rule of navigation will never fly. Suppose you are at position (A) and want to get to position (B). Is this the path you are expecting people to always take? And would you put your life on it? The navigation rule that is more certain to fly is, stay on heading, but Slow down and friggin' Pay Attention. No sense in going a mile out of your way..... you're gonna get there sooner and burn less fuel by staying the course and just being reasonable with your speed.
  13. No, not at all. Even Andreas Anderson takes 43 minutes to whip one up.....and he has all of his material and tools laid out in front of him already. Here are some flys that dive and wiggle, that will last until you loose them in a tree.
  14. Here it is. 👍 Dally has stolen it. 😅
  15. Dalhberg divers are cute, but they suck in the durability catagory. Take 45 minutes to tie and are junk after 15 minutes of actual fishing. Pack them too loose and they might as well be a 45 minute muddler. Pack them tight and they won't dry out, so they rot down where hair and thread meet. Poorly engineered by my standards. How they stayed so famous for so long is a mystery to me. Chad Johnson designed a better one. Can't remember what he calls it.
  16. Only if your going too fast to notice, react, and avoid it. 😅
  17. If you aren't looking at what's in front of you.., any speed is excessive. When in an area where you can't clearly see..., any speed where you can't stop or turn to avoid an object immediately is excessive. "Excessive" is relative. To say that the incident couldn't have been avoided if traveling slower, is absurd. Of course speed was a factor. It is the main factor in any collision.
  18. I got completely shunned from the Marine Dealers association for initiating serious discussion on this. Even though I never wanted to participate in their crap to begin with. They begged me to join in the first place.
  19. Oh! Well excuse me! 🤐 And excuse whoever started this thread! Thinking about, and talking about fatal boating accidents makes you a safer boater. Were you familiar with the location where one rowboat completely ran over another? 🙄
  20. Surely he came off the HOTFOOT as soon as he realized the hit was inevitable.....So to coast completely over a boat by inertia alone? I think you'd have to be bookin'. Dump the throttle while running wide open and the boat sits down real quickly. Lots to speculate on. Could have been staring at the big screen in front of him. The idiots in these big cruisers at night on Lake O will run 100% by GPS, looking at nothing but the mapping screen until they get really close to where they are headed. Especially at night. You can see their faces glowing from the light of the screen as they go by. I'm sure the operator will claim a stuck throttle or steering failure.....which isn't entirely impossible, for sure. Around HERE no boat crashes ever make the news unless somebody was .08% BAC.
  21. Good point 👍
  22. Does it dive, wiggle, or anything cool? To look at it I'd figure it to just be a plop and twitch fly. Obviously it does something right. 👍
  23. Is Pat 2.0 gonna be at "the shindig" in October ?
  24. For the price they sell for, they should break them in for you.
  25. I like that she didn't mention making him fix dinners, do dishes, and laundry.
