  1. Why don't you consult a calendar?
  2. More like a defunct trailer park..... but yeah I suppose you could pitch a tent there. Jackson branch has been one of the most problematic "water quality" areas since the testing began. Not that that truly means anything, but still...
  3. Yeah the actual "camping" alternatives on this pond are pretty sad. It's a shame really. If I had a million bucks to play with I'd set up a few primitive campgrounds in select areas.
  4. Love your yak rig.....Nice! I saw you by the ramp, and up by TT bridge when I was out test running a 16' jon with an old 18hp. Evinrude on it. Give a shout next time you're in the neighborhood.
  5. Here we go again..... Reasons that Googly Bubble Eyes Rock: 1. They are Eyes. 2. They float (add buoyancy). 3. I have an unending supply cuz my g/f is a crafty freak. 4. They annoy Ronnie Moore.
  6. Yeah, if you doubt its tangliness just drop a crankbait on a pile of it.
  7. Here's the "strap teaser" complete with part # for the correct kind of strap. The strap is folded over a 1/4" dia. foam cylinder and lashed together with Power Pro braid. Tie in a split ring as you finish it up and trim the bottom "wing" a bit shorter than the top and fray the tails just a bit. You don't need to "fuzz it up" any more than shown, the gar will do it for you...and do it better than you will. I put googly bubble eyes on it...... but hell I put googly bubble eyes on EVERYTHING That part is optional. After it gets soaked it has a fluke type action just under the surface.
  8. Oneshot, I know a guy that might be interested but he "doesn't do computers". If you wanna PM me a phone number I'll pass it along to him.
  9. That is Outstanding !!!! Can a lowly outboard tech make a living out there? Cuz I'm ready to move.
  10. Pike I've had. It's fine. Cooked up a pickerel with a batch of Okeechoobee bluegill once also and couldn't tell the difference. Carp and Buffalo I've seen filleted and the meat doesn't even look appealing to me at all, but I'm sure if I tasted it I'd prolly grab another piece. The gar meat looks like it would be really good.
  11. Alright I'm gonna try it, it actually does look delicious. Any resemblance, meat texture-wise, to gator ? I've been looking for a reason to buy a cordless sawzall, so this might be it.
  12. Look cool or Feel cool? Because the "Lookin" is harder to pull off than you realize. The folks in lesser boats don't think you look cool, they hate your guts. And the guys in nicer boats think you look like a shitbum wannabe poser. The only people you look cool to in your fancy new rig are young boys that hope to grow up and have one someday, and they'll wreck their first marriage getting one. So why ya wanna go screwing up the youth of America's future by flaunting pretty new boats around? It's bad enough that we're passing our debt down to them, let's not rub it in their face while we do it.
  13. Lower unit failure? Seen a bunch of them, but can't ever recall one due to "cheesy gear failure". Gears that are harder than they need to be would be a worse scenario. The difference between a 700.00 gearcase overhaul and a 3500.00 lower unit replacement after hitting a log.
  14. Here's the thing though, Bo..... You have choices. More in fact than you ever had "back in the day". Nobody needs a premium 20+ft. bass rocket with state of the art sonar, GPS programmed trolling motors, and seats that make your @$$ laugh. You can still run a 2.4L mixer on a 80-something Charger/Champ/Ranger if you want, there's plenty still around and you can still catch buttloads of fish and even win tournaments out of them. You don't have to get a second mortgage on your home in order to own a good dependable fishing boat....but you do if you want one as fresh and new as 85% of the other guys at the ramp. It's just a matter of who you feel the need to please.
  15. Hey yo! Us LO boys are too busy catching fish to play computer games
  16. If you'd left out that tidbit I woulda been really stumped... it's just the LSD man, it'll be ok.
  17. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the hi-def ultra processor LCR's only accomplish one thing that a standard run of the mill LCR's do.....they create an image that causes the user to fish a spot more thoroughly and with some added confidence because those units draw such "fishy looking" pictures (seemingly showing groups of fish holding along every limb of a brushpile, for example). But for the most part my observation is that anglers who have equipped their rigs with these sweet complex toys fail to catch any more fish than they did before they had them. They do, however, find themselves spending way more time idling around in circles with a cold beverage in their hand instead of a fishing rod.
  18. Bingo! They all ping and receive the same signals (even the old dial flashers) , some units just PROCESS and DISPLAY those return signals differently.
  19. That's Interesting.....and good knowledge to have. I had always figured (and I don't really know why) that crawdads we're shoreline/shallow water critters, for the most part. I know that on this lake during the heat of Summer they are thick at the bases of the seawalls (3-4'). Snorkelers can fill a bucket in an afternoon, no problem.
  20. Y'all think the crawdads in those fishes belly came from 30+fow?
  21. The whole thermocline business is just one element of reservoir fishing that you have to put yourself through. But don't burn up too many brain cells or waste too much time pondering over it.....cuz in the end you'll discover that you can't depend on thermocline based patterns so it really doesn't mean squat.
  22. I would expect "guilty conscious" moreso than "tremendous confidence". If you bought new and they had to replace your complete motor twice.....they'd still make money.
  23. It's hard to go by CFS on the LN (Macks cr. Guage), I assume because so much of it slips underground and them comes back up sporadically throughout it's length. 5.0' on the height gage is about perfect though.
  24. Most likely told by someone who doesn't know what a gar looks like.
  25. What motor are you running now, Bill?
