Livewell pump repair/replace question
fishinwrench replied to slothman's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I am currently restoring a classic 350 Ranger. The front livewells on those boats were absolutely worthless (as a livewell) so since it is lined in foam on all 4 sides I'm turning it into a lunchbox (cooler). The confounded valve system for the rear livewell.....Ditching it, and replumbing it in a way that will be way simpler, perfectly effective, and very easy to access and maintain. I'm sick to death of some of the newer boats with 6 freakin' water pumps plus a pair of air bubbler pumps. What in the world do you need a pump-out for ? Open the dang valve and let it drain out the back for crying out loud! It would be one thing if you could access them all, but when accessing all the rediculous plumbing, valves, and needless pumps and all those extra electrical circuits requires removing all the batteries, removing an oil tank, draining and removing both fuel tanks, and a pair of onboard chargers, removing a water separator, and then still tearing your arms to shreds servicing all that crap.....Well it's just insanity. Then you get to hear guys say...."Geeze, 700.00 just to replace a livewell pump?!!", and then scribble out a check and throw it at ya with more attitude than a guy in divorce court. 🙄 -
Not worth arguing over, but neither the 742 semi-auto nor the BAR will fire 30 rounds in 35 seconds without suffering a malfunction due to overheat. Even if they did have the magazine capacity. The M-16, AR-15, HK91 are designed specifically for that task (internally). The material, head space, chamber deminsions, and bolt tolerance are what make it unique as a "weapon". Tighten things up and it would shoot even better (but not for 20-30 shots at a time, and definatly not once it got dirty and grimey). It's not all about the furniture. SWAT teams and defense groups aren't enjoying them because they dig the furniture.

Livewell pump repair/replace question

To each his own I reckon, I just always felt it was best to keep fresh water coming in and let the overflow take the piddle and doodle out. If y'all wanna make your fish soak in their piddle....all I can say is that my fish are cleaner. 😄 -
Most popular, I'd argue because of the current mentality, if that's indeed true. The AR was designed as a durable rifle with loose tolerances that could withstand being dragged in the mud, dunked in a creek, could withstand repeated fire without overheat seizure and is easy to clear in the case of a jam, and was relatively simple to disassemble in the field should a malfunction occur. Sure you can morph one into a super accurate sporting rifle that will indeed get the job of meat hunting done. Killing is killing. The same can be said of just about any handgun. Their primary purpose is for defense, or to be used as a weapon. I understand that they are fun for some folks to tinker with. That's incredibly obvious when a guy starts showing off his guns. If he has an AR that'll be the first one he parades around with. It aint the gun that turns me off, it's the mentality. I'll tell ya right now that there would be no need for all this "second amendment" fighting and bickering if the AR and it's brethren had stayed in the military where they belong.

No, I'm saying that he probably uses the fill pump to aerate the livewell, like he should. 😉 -
Dicks gets my business. I don't have a problem with a store separating sporting firearms from Defense Weapons. I pretty much support it. Fly shops dont sell baitcasters, and some get downright offended if you ask where the Roostertails and crankbaits are. Can't buy a 4-wheel ATV at a Harley Davidson shop either.

Personally I don't see a need for a recirc. pump unless your trying to keep fish alive while trailering or running from Warsaw back to PB2. It's always better to keep fresh water coming in and old water going out vs. recirculating the piss water. As with everything else on a boat they'll last a long time if you use them. Anything that seldom gets used will fail within a year or two. The reason yours is squealing is probably because you never use it. -

Basspirator's don't have replacement motor cartridges. If your hoses are still in good shape you can reuse them. Porter's in Laurie has that braided PVC though if you wanna refresh it all. It's the best stuff ever for livewell plumbing. -
Reckon she's still in there? I bet she is. Just a wise ol'sow.

Have only seen 2 rattlers in Mo. but one (the biggest) was during a quail hunt, late November in Monroe county, it was about 45° and was frosty that morning. Definitely not the time/place you'd expect to see ANY snake, let alone a 3' rattler. The dogs would not leave it alone so my brother shot it before it nailed one of dads pointers. On a more recent note....check out these lovers

You ever hear of someone getting scared so bad that they get a gray streak? Totally happened to me 3 days after a tornado took my house from over my head, right down the front of my chest. I honestly look like an upside down skunk.

My biggest flyrod bass was caught on a white Sneaky Pete that is about 2 1/4" long. Just a bit over 5lbs. (guessing). Sipped it in without even making a ripple on the water. Thought a bluegill grabbed a leg and tugged it under. Surprise!

So what's your favorite, and least favorite fish to eat ?

I agree so much that I annoy people by repeatedly voicing my concerns about it. Oversized fish are overrated IMO, there's extra weight but less scraping energy. As for LMB I find the fight of a 2.5-3.5 pounder to be more fun than a 4+. As for River Smallies I'll have way more fun scraping with 14-17 inchers than I will 18+ fish. Now big Hybrid stripers are a whole nother thing.....those suckers are just FUN, and the bigger they get the more fun they are.... BUT I don't want them in an impoundment or river that I truly care about.

Dip them in a pan of boiling water for about 8 seconds. They'll straighten right up.

Love squirrel hunting in the Fall after the ticks and chiggers go to sleep, but never much cared for carrying around dead squirrels for a couple hours on a hot day. I prefer my meat to start cooling off immediatly after it hits the ground. Opening day of dove season is usually too warm for fresh meat also. I guess if a guy packed a cooler to toss them in it would be ok.

Kiss, not keep. You can kiss them, but then you gotta let 'em go. No tongue action, just a peck on the cheek. 😊

That would definitely explain it. 🙄

I can hook you up with some part time work if you need a little cash. My wife has a list that you can take your pick from, and then there are boats that need cleaning, brush that needs clearing, a few wheel bearing jobs that I'm sure you can handle, ect. None of it is overly strenuous.

$10 ? I got reamed! Had to replace a capacitor 2 years ago and that SOB was 300 and change. Someone with HVAC knowledge please tell me if I got hosed. 😥
