  1. Be careful once you get past the 245 bridge a little ways. Lots of timber down there.
  2. For channels chicken livers are supposed to work pretty good. I've caught quite a few with crawlers too. My neighbors fish a lot of catfish tournaments on Truman, they're always catching bait in the little creek by my driveway. Evidently those little bluegills and stuff work well. I've heard bullheads work good too, if you have any muddy ponds nearby.
  3. I was there yesterday. It is my preferred ramp for that arm of the lake. For whatever reason, it is not nearly as busy as Cedar Ridge, a lot less steep, with two extra lanes. It's a pretty quick run down to High Point area, if that's where you're wanting to fish.
  4. Rivnuts are a threaded inserts. You drill a hole and pop them in with the tool. They work like a pop rivet. Once they are installed, you can thread the corresponding fastener into them (machine screw, bolt, whatever) and it'll stay put. I've got two of them in the gunnel of my boat holding the trolling motor, in addition to thru-bolts in the bow plate. Self tappers tend to strip when removed frequently, or loosen.
  5. Rivnuts are pretty slick for that. They'll hold way better than self tappers, and you can use studs or wing bolts for easy removal. You can buy the tool and a bunch of inserts for ~$50 on Ebay or Amazon. With the expense of catfish tackle, and the strength of those fish, I would want those mounts to be solid. With a good solid mount, you can use them for snagging too.
  6. A guy walks into a bar. He see's a miniature man playing the piano on the counter. Intrigued, he decides to stay for a drink or two. He sits, the bartender says, before I get your drink, you have to rub this magic bottle and make a wish. The man does, suddenly there's a big plume of smoke, and the bar is littered with ducks. The guy says, what the heck, I asked for a million bucks, not a million ducks. The bartender laughs and replies, do you really think I wished for a 12 inch pianist?
  7. Dang boomers, ruining everything. In that report that I mentioned earlier, something like 60% of anglers are between 45-65+, so that makes sense.
  8. I'm not talking about the pandemic. I agree with you there. I mean overall fishing participation trends. From what I have read license sales are down steadily despite population growth. Was Stockton ever a little honey hole that only the locals knew about?
  9. Are there really more anglers than there was 20-40 years ago? Makes me wonder what has changed, or if it's just rose-colored nostalgia glasses. From what I've seen hunting and fishing (not outdoor activities as a whole) have trended downward.
  10. Yes, in the same way that one drop of rain raises the ocean, not in a way that you could measure.
  11. I agree with Flysmallie. You would need an engineer to give an accurate answer. At some point the temperature differential between the lake water and outboard would not be high enough for cooling to happen within the constraints of the outboards water pump and cooling system, as to how hot that is, there are way too many variables for a guy like me to figure out.
  12. Been pretty quiet on Facebook too. Guys are catching bass, but that's about all. I've been waiting almost 2 weeks now on a shift cable, haven't been out in a while.
  13. https://sueandersenrealty.com/flood2008/index_files/page0006.htm I've wondered the same thing. There are loads of bridges under Stockton, I think most have been dismantled, or were just little concrete crossings that have now silted in to just a hump on the bottom.
  14. It's definitely that time of year. They were going nuts on Stockton, I'm sure they are on Pomme too.
  15. Is there anything those won't clean? They work real slick on leather too, shoes, steering wheels, boots, etc.
  16. Yeah, Covid has really put a damper on fishing this year. Even during the middle of the week ramps are busy like a weekend. On good 4 lane ramps it's not usually a big deal, on the smaller ones it can be aggravating. I am lucky in that I have a job where I can take off a little early and fish the afternoons during the week. Haven't been out on a weekend in months. Kinda makes me miss last year when the water was up in the trees. There were several days that I was the only guy at the ramp.
  17. I like Garmin's menu system better. It's nice to have a main menu where you can select whatever view you want. Have to scroll through them on a Humminbird, if you miss the one you wanted, gotta go back around to find it. My Helix has hands down better side imaging than my Garmin. I have tweaked and played with settings on the Garmin to get the best picture, and the Helix was just plain better right out of the box without messing with anything.
  18. That's the thing with Smart Post. Fedex or UPS carries it from the sender and delivers it to your local USPS branch, then they deliver it. It's cheap, but takes twice as long. Sure Post is another name for it.
  19. You really shouldn't talk about the Missus like that.
  20. Used to use them a lot. Stopped when I found out their default shipping service was Smart Post and took forever. Like 5-10 days even though we're in the same state. Hopefully they changed that, it was silly for them to brag on fast shipping when they used the slowest service available.
  21. Rode a buddy's Sportster and didn't really see the appeal. The CB500F that I had at the time was faster, cheaper, smoother, and more economical. Out of all the bikes I've had, my 93 KLR 650 is the one I miss the most. I'm gonna buy one of those Chinese 250 dual sports, I have no desire to ride on the street again but still enjoy an evening ride on the back roads.
  22. That's what I always read too. Had mine in the center for a while, worked okay. When I redid the transom last winter, I moved it to the outside corner. It works better there than it ever did before. Even reads on plane.
  23. I get some interference even if my bow and console unit are on at the same time. It's not a huge difference, but enough that you won't get a return while sharpshooting jigs without turning the console unit off. I have two units on the console, with transducers on opposite corners, that seems to work well, no interference that I can see, even with both of them on side scan.
  24. Went out today. Water was pretty clear, 78 degrees. Not much to report other than a whole lot of dinks. If the minimum for Crappie was 6" I could've had a limit. Boat traffic was pretty heavy too.
  25. Could've been blowing out from too much trim, but I think you'd notice that. My tach is never zeroed when off. It will go to zero when the key is on until you start the engine.
