  1. We walked a wooded trail the other day at the Battlefield. Bites everywhere. I was blaming it on chiggers but these seem likely culprits.
  2. One of mine is Gore-Tex, the other is Columbia knock off. They both used to work good, so I hope I can get them at least better. I'm using a wash in from Nikwax.
  3. After reading more on this I'm going to try the Nikwax detergent followed by the Nikwax wash in treatment. The best results I've read had an overnight soak in the detergent, then in the washing machine and then the wash in treatment and then the dryer. I'm willing to risk $30 to see really any improvement. These aren't real raingear, just jackets for the house to shop and so on. But now, even that gets me wet,
  4. I have two lightweight jackets that should be waterproof but they aren't anymore. One is Cabela's (pre-bass pro days) gore tex with camo quiet fabric on the outside. The other is nylon shell Columbia with their proprietary membrane. Both jackets have nylon mesh liners, they are favorites and have been around a few years. I've been reading about treating rain gear with Durable Water Repellent. Sounds like I may need to treat both of these, so I ordered a package of detergent that's supposed to help before treating again, and a 15oz. bottle of DWR spray. Have any of you experts around here done anything similar? What did you use and does it work?
  5. Good call.
  6. Fine time had by all, judging by the looks of things.
  7. I interviewed with a bunch of wops - last names all ending in vowels - for a job at Union Electric in the 1980's. They took me to lunch at Cunetto's and I must not have screwed it up too bad as they hired me for the best job I'd ever had. At the best restaurant I'd ever been in for Italian. No idea at all if it is still there. Then, it was among the best of the best
  8. We just got back from the Keys. I'd trade Missouri bugs for Florida Iguanas - and Pythons that have taken raccoon, opossum and bobcat populations down > 90% in the everglades -all night long.
  9. Are you seriously asking for sympathy on the internet? You're better than that.

    What's Cooking?

Pizza parties here include peppers split, seeded, stuffed with seasoned cream cheese and shredded cheddar, baked at 450 for about fifteen minutes. Jalapeno, Anaheim, the sweet baby ones you name it. They're popular.

    What's Cooking?

We had four nice bananas that were ready but not quite over ripe. And a nice bag of frozen pecans from this last autumn. So I have banana nut bread in the oven, with a LOAD of pecans in it. Plus there's cold 2% milk in the fridge and butter. Guess what's for dinner tonight?
  12. Tell the warden Glen says hi, and thanks for your service.🥵
  13. AAAAAnnnnd. So are the check ins.
  14. We've said before Gioia's has a James Beard Award for their original hot salami sandwich. James Beard is kind of the Medal of Honor for cooking. Back when, way back, me and my dago buddies that hired me would get one and eat in the Berra park across the street. Amighetti? They were great and eveywhere. Terrific bread, meat, toppings, dressing. Totally top shelf, but not at all hard to find. As for me, I never ever go to St. Louis without stopping on The Hill - for Gioias. Hot Salami on Italian White, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Mayo, Mustard.
  15. In an airport, Subway moves up several notches..
  16. But: Ask Pete or Gavin. They live there still and are plugged in.
  17. Gioia's. OrAmighetti. Wait. That's my recommendations from the '90's. They stand strong though.
  18. Which is exactly why I asked "How's the pay?".
  19. Vicarious John. Vicarious.
  20. That doesn't seem to be a gender sensitive matter. I have it on good authority that the rolls are open to all.
  21. I'm starting to self identify as a vicarious micro fish life lister.
  22. I was thinking of him in the Miami Airport Sunday morning when I heard somebody talking about getting on the plane.
  23. Tomorrow is a Weather Alert Day!! We have breaking news from the NWS. The sun will come up in the EAST tomorrow. Stay tuned for updates.
