My parents were divorced when I was very young. My love for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, floating - all of it - came from friends and my love of reading. I read all the time as a youngster, outdoor magazines, books you name it. I fell in love with it as much from the printed page as from anything else. One second cousin used to go rabbit hunting with me in my early teens. That was pretty much it for family actually going out with me. But. Family mentors are a blessing. My mother and grandmother both encouraged it for me, but I pretty much had to do it and learn it on my own. Which in looking back on it, was really OK. When I say the things I know I learned the hard, hard way, it's not really a joke.
Daryk, you're lucky to have friends who will help teach your son. Keep encouraging it!
