  1. I really don't think it's my place to discuss other posters on the site.
  2. Phil decided that it was just too mean and ugly without moderation and shut it down. Which is totally his call. I participated there a lot before the end. I can testify there was a lot of heat and not just friendly heat. There was a pretty small number of regular participants, and everybody knew where everybody else stood. It served mainly as a place to vent one's spleen and I understand why Phil didn't care for it.
  3. Florida and most of the Gulf Coast same way.
  4. I used to work with a lot of developers both successful and not so hot in the Branson/Table Rock area. One of the successful guys that bought built and sold a lot of houses and lots both ready to build on and raw land had his theory. Be the third man in.
  5. Let me simplify then. The effort has nothing to do with concern about the money being misspent. It's a group of Republican congressmen pretending to be concerned about 2A rights. Clear enough now?
  6. Well there you go wrench. Happy now that you know the move has zero to do with agencies wasting their money? You should know by now that these sorts of efforts are nearly always craven in their origins.
  7. IF. But. That's not the reason. Trust me on this one.
  8. And equally importantly be able to distribute it reliably. Which also comes with a price. There's a BIG wind generator project around Greenfield with a high voltage transmission line heading straight to Joplin area. And there are a lot of new wood poles lying in the ditches around here waiting for install. It's the other half of the power cost equation. Too bad so many miss that part of reality. The country's utilities are working on it. Sorry oneshot, it is not the end of the world as you know it.
  9. Can't be much worse than releasing fish after hauling them around all day and going to the weigh in during 100 degree heat and then setting them free to float belly up.
  10. They can't put it on the internet if it's not true. People are going to be starving, cats lying down with dogs, floods, droughts, big mean bees, hammerhead worms much less hammerhead sharks. You name it nothing good is ever going to happen again.
  11. I went to college in the early '70's at Joplin and Neosho. There was no such thing as a canoe rental livery in that area. I spent real quality time in the canoe that I owned down there on the Elk River, both Sugar Creeks, Indian Creek, Shoal Creek, the Spring River and Center Creek. It was a good time to be alive and in SWMO.
  12. I have a gaff for my big fish.😲 Let me know if you need to borrow it. No scale on it though.☹️
  13. I didn't realize it was integral to a net. Sorry, I'm OLD so that's my excuse.
  14. Digital or spring? An accurate one would help Ketchup's club out.
  15. Somebody needs to make a calibrated weigh the fish in the net unit. Or at least have a scale with a tare feature where the fish can be weighed right there in the net , use the tare to deduct the weight of the net and then release the fish. Bass lives matter.

    What's Cooking?

It's not nearly as miserable out today. So these will be grilled later. A summer classic for sure.

    What's Cooking?

A Chicken Enchilada Pasty from London Calling - which are really very good - and some cucumber and onion salad. An easy dinner with no outdoor cooking required in this heat.
  18. I am a fan of crawdads - once somebody else has already done the disassembly. Crabs same way.
  19. Yes, the condition had to be adversely affecting ability to do normal things. She was actually eligible for a couple of years before she decided to go ahead with the surgeries. I agree on medicare + a supplement is great coverage. When I worked for White River, management got everything the unions negotiated plus an annual $5K HSA contribution. It was a Cadillac deal too so I've been good for quite a while. Finally spent down the HSA account - it was really nice while it lasted.
  20. Fred's dead Jed. Cool story Daryk. Except for poor Fred.
  21. Canned carp is good. Carp croquettes.
  22. I love that part of the Current, been too long since I've been there. Maybe later this summer. Great post, thanks for putting it up.
  23. Medicare and the supplement (Anthem) paid 100% on Janet. Pete is right it's about $10K per eye. Janet still talks about how she still thinks she needs to take her contacts out before going to sleep. She is very very happy with her results.
  24. Being the beneficiary of a twice repaired back, two prosthetic knees, two prosthetic hips, one repaired 100% separation/torn rotater cuff and one kidney stone removed from my bladder, it's kind of hard to get me to badmouth modern medicine. I'd be an invalid instead of being able to ride a bike and walk 18 holes of golf. And being an invalid is the kind of thing that will kill you. You probably won't hear Janet doing so either, especially now that she has 20-20 vision in both eyes after cataract surgery. Which is better vision than she ever had as she started wearing glasses at age five.
