  1. 1 here when we got up. It's amazing that we still have a fair bit of snow in shaded areas. And of course, in the driveway. Kind of a throwback winter so far. Plenty of cold for sure. But LAST Year it was even colder. Had a FB memory pop up and it was -6.

    What's Cooking?

I haven't seen a menu like theirs since I was in Hong Kong.

    What's Cooking?

There's a corned beef in the crockpot right now. Cabbage, new potatoes and carrots will go in later. I won't bore you with photos, it's not all that pretty anyway. But it always tastes great. This isn't cooking but it is food related. We have an honest to gosh great Chinese restaurant in Springfield. Corner 21. Ranked #17 nationwide and it's legit. We have a tradition of meeting Lovey's grandson and some of his friends who are in school down here for a meal a couple of times a month. We met at Corner 21 yesterday - seven college boys and two old people. We did family style with everyone ordering something different and sharing with the table. Eleven different items covering the gamut, Sweet and Sour Pork that's nothing like I've had anywhere else, Stir Fried Noodles, fish and tofu pot, lamb with leeks, cashew nut crispy chicken (NOT sgf cashew chicken!) chicken with mushrooms pot, braised pork belly with rice noodles, steamed pork buns (think big steamed dumplings) pineapple chicken and a few I can't remember. What a great meal it was. Plenty of leftovers for them to take with. The boys have gotten to know us pretty well - some of them go back a few years during HS Baseball - and we have a great time together.
  5. Somebody has to spell check you. Censorship struggle is real.
  6. They're honest refs. Once paid off, they stay paid off. Our refs are our refs. Deal wit it.
  7. Dang. And now how many bettors are ready to hang them for a safety? They seem to be peaking at the right time. Three in a row seems totally possible. Go Chiefs.
  8. The team photo with Eucker and Gibson holding hands with their goofy grins says it all. One of a kind, the good kind. RIP Bob Eucker. Oh and watch out for Uncle Charlie...
  9. I'll never be without a 6" Rapala. I also have a similarly sized Mora that's a dandy too. And I inherited a 10" Dexter Russell that's the ticket for big fish. None of which are expensive knives, but they are all good ones with years of proven use around here.
  10. Truman Tailrace. There's everything there. And catchable.
  11. I remember the station but I was not in Nevada in those days. Probably in Jefferson City having buffalo ribs on Friday afternoons down at the bar and grill by the Missouri. There's a few memories from there too.
  12. May is for sure better than March if you can swing that.
  13. Finley River between Linden and Green Bridge has some decent wading water - but maybe you'd need to get all the way wet in a couple of spots. Green Bridge down to the new bridge at Riverside is wadable and has nice water. Parking at Green Bridge can be an issue but if you need some help and I'm around, you could park at my place and I'd take a driver or two back down to the river. I'm about 1.5 miles from both Green Bridge and Linden so it wouldn't be a big deal. James has some wadable water at Shelvin Rock and also near Hootentown. Blunk Road is a famous bank fishing area when the whites are on and no reason you shouldn't be able to catch a brown bass or two. Good luck.
  14. But the good news is the later in the week snow is out of the forecast.
  15. Lovey invented a new game for the dogs. It's called "The Disappearing Ball". They chase snowballs and get a little confused about where they went. Too funny to watch.
  16. Heaviest most perfect snowman/snowball fight snow lately. The snow blower could hardly move it - bottom layer is nearly slush. The go part of the snowblower just spun on top of it. But got enough done to live with it.
  17. Good 6" plus and it's coming right on down as I type this. Going to be a snow blower afternoon after it quits.
  18. Take a poll. That's way too hard of a decision for me to take on alone. The smoked trout dip is non-negotiable though.
  19. I saw that pot of smoked chili you made. It's now on you buddy. We're in for beans and cornbread and Lovey is doing some fancy dancy cinnamon rolls for a breakfast.
  20. Maybe 1/2" or so of snow. No Ice. Lucky us.
  21. I know. In those days, Kansas only sold 3.2% beer, in a bar or in a store. Liquor was strictly in state run liquor stores or private clubs for a cocktail. Iowa used to be the same about liquor and wine.
  22. We're going to end up with a trace. It's still 32 and the lightest flurries. My kind of winter storm, get to watch others deal with it.
  23. Should have gone to the Railroad Club in Fort Scott KS. If you had a dollar, you could have a beer. At 14.
  24. There used to be a Bass Pro in the Liquor Store in Reeds Spring. What a place. I don't remember it being a Brown Derby but odds are it was.
