  1. I think a brine or a buttermilk soak never hurts a cat. I agree about the size. I don't know exactly, but I suspect the cut off is in the 5# range or a little higher?
  2. I didn't realize that was where the campground was. Is it immediatly east?
  3. Well at least he can't climb a short fence, can he?
  4. Grizz is right about the city park, but if you want bank fish at night I would go across the bridge and stay at River Run COE park. Get a spot on the lake front farthest from the ramp if possible. Middle of the week, I was by there Saturday and both were almost empty. As far as boat fishing goes the Pothole, up the lake from the parks is potluck, anything from small trout to 65# stripers. To get to Empire park, good for trout either bank fishing or boat, go back across the bridge toward Forsyth and almost immediatly take the road to the left that drops away, stay on that and you can't miss it. Good ramp, good bank access.
  5. Is that because he pee's off the deck in the morning, or because they say he does it nakid!!
  6. The mouth reminds me more of a chub. I know they will take lures and I catch a lot of them sometimes, even on the surface, when I'm fly fishing the creeks for whatever is hungry. I probably come up with one of them to every 5 or 6 longear.
  7. Have you been up the creek to the slough? If so, how deep is the channel now?

    Bringing The Heat

    Looks, ah, hot!
  9. Put him near a good water source and he/she is unlikely to leave it.
  10. I wouldn't leave my vehicle at hiway 7. If there is adeqate water you might consider ending at Gascondade Hills above Hazelgreen?
  11. I don't think we know the extent of the effect the Asian can have and that's the worrisome part. The common has been here so long that there isn't anything new to expect from them.
  12. Well while my leaf problems on my squash kind of comes and goes I'm not so lucky with the cukes. It appears, according to the internet that a virus or bacterial infection has taken over and set to wipe them out. I'm still having a fruiting problem on everything. Lots of flowers, lttle fruit. I suspect that it might be a lack of bees or other insects? The only insecticide I've used all season was on my eggplant leaves when they weren't flowering. I don't know if I need to think about planting more flowers next year, I have a crap load of honeysuckle around all ready, or if one of my part time neighbors is overdoing it?
  13. Probably a little coon. That's the size that is harrassing me. I have a bird feeder off of my deck that is reachable fom the railing, but it's squirrel proof, well almost, and in front of two windows. My big dog waits for them every night and then wakes everyone up raising heck when they get on the railing. They have also been on our side porch which is long and covered with garden items, houseplnats and assorted thig that don't really belong there, they had a ball for awhile rummaging through everything.
  14. The top one is indeed the Rebel Humpback, The second one is the Pico Perch, it lacks Heddon hook hangers, The thrid one is one that has a familiar paint scheme, but I can't remember the name. The next is the great Hellbender, one of the best deep diving baits or brush baits ever made. It was amazing how the would come through wood and never snag. The baby was a real producer. The all silver was my best followed by the Coachdog. The last one on top is another familier one, but I don't think I ever owned one. The bottom one is a mystery and I don't recognize the fin or the cut in the belly. looks kind of like something Storm would produce?
  15. I think that is a normal behavior for one that is use to humans. I used to take my daughter fishing when she was young and most of it was on a large chunk rock rip rap for perch. There was a mink that lived very near where we fished and it was not unusual to see it going about its business, sometimes within 5 or 6 feet of us. I've also seen them on the river bank feeding or primpig and ignoreing the canoe 20' away.
  16. Let us know what you think.
  17. That's great. My DIL is into the riding for tropys and ribbons, can't remember the name, but my GD is is now inersted also and has her own ride.
  18. I was going to suggest them also, but Carthage is a long way. Where's your dock?
  19. I agree Ollie. They're a different animal then our commons and have the ability to do a lot more damage. What does chap me is that the gubmit doesn't send some seed money into canning them? With a slight name change after canning they could be a great alternative to some tuna stocks that are in decline. I've had commons that were canned and made up as patties and they are good, I under stand that the Asians are even better tasting.
  20. Mitch I'm not sure that is a reasonable explanation. First thing that comes to my mind is that we really don't have any remote streams here. We do have some little known, or fished streams, but I can't think of a remote stream in Missouri. My second thought is that if if the damage is being done at accsses and ramps it would be hardly noticable because they make up such a small area. Over the years I've seen or heard of some quality fish coming out of places accesed by floaters almost daily and nice fish coming from access points. The one thing they seem to have in common is deep water and cover, not pressure.
  21. I hear that! It started down hill when Sam Welch teamed up with Jim Rodgers.
  22. I can see where law enforcement could be a big expense for the Corp because their improvements are scattered. I can also see where trash pickup and other things such as bathroom cleaning could offer the same problems. On the other hand if they were leased to the county the law enforcement is allredy in place and not restricted to boat ramps, ect. Cleaning could probably be part of the regualar parks departtment routine. They have used OUR money to build these and there is no reason, aside from no other entity wanting the resposibility, to cable them off.
  23. I'll second that! The trout in the White, I know this sounds like broken record, managed for 60 years, became world class and even produced a record or two, all without adding an inch to BS. Wiping out most of the good bank fishing areas and the famous Pothole doesn't make sense to me. I have bought some border permits and fish BS often, or did before the flood, so I didn't get an invite.
  24. Yeah I had a fit when I saw that construction. The hypocrites bought out Henry's cabins, and the houses back on the tree line and Springview, closed the campground above the spring, all to keep the area natural, or so they said. Now they do the opposite by buliding cabins inside a rock throwin distance.
  25. That would be the Doll fly, around for ever.
