We have the same issue here on the Bull Shoals tailwater. I have been wading below the dam and have seen water come up with no horn and horn blows and no water. Seems to be a pretty simple solution... when the word comes to turn on a generator, push the horn button. It's not rocket science.

That's quite a gadget you got there. Have fun with it.

I have personally witnessed 2 guys thrown out of their boats on different occasions here on the White River. One was the driver, the other was a passenger. Both times it was at minimum flow and they hit a rock going through shallow shoals. Both times the boat glanced off the rock and made a sharp turn which threw them out. One of them had lots of cuts and bleeding. The water downstream looked like a shark attack had occurred. The other one just got a good swim...that one was in January below Rim Shoals so it was a cold ride back to the ramp once his partner got control of the boat and got him back in. That one could have been really bad if he was alone. So... wear your kill switch.

Cleaning/Restoring Cork Rod Handles
netboy replied to DADAKOTA's topic in General Angling Discussion
I recently restored an old Shakespeare Wonder Rod 4wt fly rod that I used back in the 60's and the cork was in terrible condition. I used these shrink wrap covers and they worked great.... New X-Tube Heat Shrink Wrap Tubing 39"&64"Lengths for Rod Grips 5 Color 14 Sizes | eBay -
It's not the 6 bucks... it's the cost and availability (or lack thereof) of the infrastructure needed to stream out here in the boondocks.

I'll bet this game tonight has the lowest rating in recent history for a playoff game. We live in the sticks in north Arkansas and are big Chief's fans like many others here in the Ozarks. We don't have high speed internet available and use our cellphone Hotspot for internet access. So with that said... screw NBC. Rant over.

Try those poached eggs served on top of a toasted english muffin. 😀

We used to catch lots of jacks while fishing the oil rigs off the Texas coast. They are probably the hardest fighting fish out there as they turn broadside and don't give up easily. I would always give the rod to the newbie on the boat when one was hooked. After a couple of jacks on a hot still day in Texas they were pretty much done for the day.😀

Maybe because Jesus was born that day????????????

Fished the area around the dam this morning and had a good time. They must be stocking lots of rainbows as there were fish everywhere. Most of them were stockers and holding in shallow riffles less than a foot deep. Caught a bunch of rainbows and this one brown. It was fun fishing as it was mostly sight casting and watching them take the fly. Best fly was a size 16 orange egg pattern fished below redds. The seagulls appeared to be watching for eggs also.

SWPA has been running water on the Bull Shoals tailwater every morning this week. With that said, I have been making the trip to the Norfork the last few mornings. Fishing has been good there with lots of rainbows, a few browns and a cutthroat or two. The water was a bit high earlier in the week, but today it was back to normal minimum flow. Yesterday there was a good hatch of what looked to be small tan mayflies. A size 18 tan elk hair caddis worked well during the hatch. I had the best luck this morning using egg patterns with a midge dropper. Here is a pic of a nice one from this morning...

Yes, been retired 21 years and still not enough time to do everything we want.

Been a while since I have fished as we just returned from a 3 week cruise starting in Venice, then ports in Itlay, Slovenia, Croatia and finally flying out of Zagreb. The trip was great with some awesome scenery and interesting destinations. As for the fishing, it has been great the last couple of days. I waded Roundhouse Shoals Sunday and again this morning on minimum flow. Lots of rainbows along with a couple browns and 1 cuttie. Best fly combo was an orange egg pattern with a ruby midge dropper under an indicator. Here is a fattie that was spewing eggs as I released her. Also a pic of the customary gondola ride in Venice.

I took the boat to Rim Shoals and ran upstream a bit and then got out and waded. Lots of stocker size rainbows and a few nicer ones on orange slush eggs. I had some unexpected company when this nice buck decided to join me. A pic of the buck and one of the better rainbows...

Looks like a Gag to me. Used to catch them offshore in Texas, but never close in.

I went to the Baxter County boat ramp access this morning as they were scheduled to run 1 unit. Fishing was good until they unexpectedly blew the horn at 9 and turned on another unit. Caught 7 or 8 on the orange slush egg including this nice male. Water got too high for that area, so I left and went to the Marion County access below the dam. Caught a few more there, but the water was still a bit too high. I did see more redds in the river and the fish in the picture was spewing milt when I netted him. Just a heads up.... The entire C&R area closes next Tuesday for the brown trout spawn and reopens February 1,

Did you recently join PETA?

Looks like a rainbow to me. Cutthroats don't have the red stripe on their sides. I catch quite a few rainbows on the Bull Shoals and Norfork tailwaters with orange or red slash markings on their bottom jaw as well as orange on their bellies. Seems to always be fish that have been in the river for a while. May be due to the natural foods they eat instead of the pellets in the hatchery. Also, they have darker colors like the one in your picture. Here is a picture of a cutthroat for comparison...

So many good things to be said for the Catch and Release areas in Arkansas. Only wish they had more.

SWPA has been running 1 unit of water at Bull Shoals Dam the last few mornings. Water is still wadeable, but mostly along the shorelines. I have had the best luck with orange slush eggs, yellow cracklebacks and grizzly tiger tails. This morning I was the only wader there so that was great. The entire area will close to fishing November 1 through January 31 for the brown trout spawn so now is the time to take advantage of it. I have been seeing a few redds with browns on them and hungry rainbows holding below them, hence the orange slush egg. Here's a couple of the better ones...

Looks like a heck of a day. Congrats
