  1. X3 on Rapp's. We have some our Trout Unlimited gatherings there. They always put out a great spread.
  2. I think you have him confused with Brian Sloss, who used to guide on the Eleven Point. He moved to New Hampshire a couple years ago. As far as I know Brian Wise still lives on the North Fork of the White. As a side note, he will at Dally's Streamer Lovefest this Saturday night. If any of you guys are around Cotter this Saturday, be sure to stop by. Here's the details... HADA PAINTS WHITLOCK AT LOVEFEST – The Ozark Fly Fisher Journal (wordpress.com)
  3. I recently resurrected an old 4wt Shakespeare Wonder Rod that my Dad used when we fished at Bennett Spring back in the late 50's. It is very lightweight and has great action and lots of fun to fish with. I replaced the guides and covered the old cork with heat shrink tubing. Here is a pic...
  4. I had redfish on my list, but it was on the bottom of the list. The problem with redfish is that the smaller ones around 16-18" are really good eating, but there is a slot limit of 20-28" in Texas and it was rare to catch lower slot size reds in the Laguna Madre. Most were 25" and up.
  5. Thanks, I'll give that a try soon.
  6. Speaking of suckers, there are a ton of them here in the White River below Bull Shoals and I have never seen anyone fishing for them or trying to gig them at night. Strange that they are popular in Missouri rivers, but not down here. I would like to try one sometime but have no clue how to catch them. They don't pay any attention to my flies.
  7. After seeing the picture of your boat, I think I passed you yesterday morning around 8:30 at the Rim Shoals Road stop sign. I was towing my Blazer jet rig headed for the ramp.

  9. Looks like a good hunt. Duck hunting is the one thing I miss about living in south Texas.
  10. Should be a good trip. We have low wadeable water and lots of willing trout. Have fun and say hello the Gary and Paula.
  11. Here is our favorite homemade burger.... The Jesse Kelly Cheeseburger Recipe (willerson.wixsite.com)
  12. Okay, still a good video.
  13. Good job on the fishing and the video.

    White Woollies

Only Woolies I use are olive or brown. I use white mop flies if there is a shad kill happening.
  15. Having lived in Corpus Christi, TX for 20 years, which was where Whataburger was founded in 1950 and its corporate headquarters for many years, I have eaten many a Whataburger. You couldn't drive a mile in Corpus and not see a Whataburger store. I still prefer them to the other fast food burger joints such as McDonalds, Burger King, Sonic, Hardys or Wendys. With that said, I hope they open one here in the Mountain Home area, but I am not gonna wait in a long line for one.
  16. Lots of good places... just depends on what part of the river you want to fish. Here's a few in order from the dam downstream to Buffalo City... State Park Trout Dock Gaston's Resort Stetson's Resort White Hole Resort White River Trout Club Rainbow Drive Resort His Place Resort Rim Shoals Resort White Buffalo Resort Riley's Outfitters
  17. Launched the boat at 11:00 after they shut the generators down to about 1/2 of a unit. Ran down to a good shoal and put the waders on. Fishing was a bit slow at first but got better as the day warmed up. Ended with around 3 dozen, mostly rainbows, 2 browns and a nice brookie. Caught most of them on egg patterns and later in the afternoon I tried a stimulator and caught 4 on that and missed a couple others. Had an interesting thing happen today. I saw some commotion in the water just downstream from where I was fishing. It turned out to be 2 big browns swimming side by side and breaking the water every few seconds. They slowly swam within a rod's length of me and weren't interested in my fly. I guess they were in the pre spawning mode. They looked to be in the 26-28" range and I could clearly see the hook jaw on the male. Here's a couple of the better ones...
  18. Also, I think most all wading boots only come full sizes, i.e.no half sizes.
  19. All mine are one full size over.
  20. I understand Missouri has banned felt soles so that may enter into your decision. I don't know if they are serious about enforcing it though. I currently have 3 pair... one Simms with felt soles and studs, one Orvis with felt and no studs and one Weinbrenner, Gary Borger with felt and studs. All three have held up well. The studs give you a much better grip if you are wading over smooth bedrock. All are one full size larger than my shoe size. Also wanted to mention that I have thrown quite a few pairs of cheaper boots away due to the soles coming unglued and then not having much luck re-gluing them. I would also suggest getting a pair that has the soles stitched to the boots as well as glued. Also, I fish an average of 5-6 days a week, so I switch boots every couple of days and let the boots dry out.
  21. Can't go wrong with Simms boots as well.
  22. I got my first one around 7:30 at the Cotter walk in access.
  23. Could have been tiny Blue Wing Olives (BWO's). They hatch this time of year here on the White and Norfork.
  24. I use Simms Goretex stockingfoot waders and have been very satisfied with their durability. If you go with Simms, be sure to get the ones made in the USA and made with Goretex. They offer a couple low end options made in China with a different material that won't last as long as the Goretex. Another advantage to the Goretex is that if you do get a leak, it is very easy to fix yourself (see video). Also, you can find some great deals on used Simms on Ebay. I bought a pair of G3's for $125 last year that were hardly used.
