What did they do to the chug bug? I have a few rattling chug bugs that must be 20 or 30 years old...those things work very well for me, although hook upgrade is required..but thats true of all topwaters. Also, ive had great luck with xraps. Granted i dont do megabass baits, but xraps are as effective as a pointer, for a bit cheaper. Once again...needs new hooks.

Does the world need any more fishing lures of any kinds? At this point every other company is knocking off baits from every other company, not alot of originality going on. They just use fancier terminal tackle double the price, like i said, every jerkbait is a knockoff of a rapala floater. That was probably thought of as gimmicky at one time. Id imagine that at one time folks probably though an A-Rig was gimmicky, same with giant swim baits. There is a weird distain for storm/rapala/ and bass pro shops that i dont really understand. For petes sake, there is a floating rat bait that costs 80 bucks or something, and its a jitterbug with a rubber worm glued to the back lol. Talk about gimmicky lol Someone buys that stupid thing?

Nice, thats what i hate about minnows the most....you spend more time baiting hooks and messing with them than actually fishing. Some days its all that works though.

I dont know if im reading this right? are you saying you dont like rapala lures? Often times there are better alternatives, but its hard to argue that they are some of, if not, the most effective fishing lures of all time. Im a flicker shad guy, but shad raps have probably caught more fish than any other crank bait, other than maybe....the rapala floating minnow.

It's like the politically correct obligatory response of "all fish were released unharmed". Doesn't really matter what happened to em, but as long as you preface the report with that phrase everyone gets a nice warm fuzzy feeling inside.

I got the ninja turtles rod......it's now a sword for combat. Toddlers lol. Just upgraded to the zebco 33 and telescopic rod. Sweet rig. Great fish and pics btw......Looks like spot great time. Those bass are nice ones too!

Im curious about the bad shad....whats the difference between that and a flicker shad?

im talking about fishing in a small pond, no need to report me. Ive havent tried to catch crappie outta table rock, and id imagine with the relatively small numbers in the lake, they grow rather large. I know at stockton they run pretty nice. Id imagine the table rock size profile is similar. There are some ponds by me where i think i could use a cast net and catch 100 crappie 5-7 inches long. In those lakes I often catch my limit, but only a handful will be worth cutting up. Its only about 25 acres, and i think that if my brother and I kept our limit everytime, regardless of size, we could change the lake profile and get a higher percentage of bigger fish. Although...If we did that should we throw back the really big ones? Or would it make any difference? guess there is only one way to find out. Its stupid how full of crappie they are. On a side note...seems like the only crappie reports outta table rock are up the creek arms as they head in to spawn. Guessing that summer crappie spots are not really talked about too much by folks who know where to find em. Ive always expected to catch one as a by-catch while trolling, but never happened.

I've often wondered what to do with removed fish that I don't want to eat? With me it's culling crappie less that 7 inches long. I'm not cleaning 50 6 inch fish, but dumping them in the woods behind the house seems wasteful. I don't think that stripers/whites are particularly good Table fare, anytime I'm told to cut out red meat and soak it in buttermilk or something no thanks. Sunfish eat much better.

The thing about an old bait is that when everyone else is throwing a megabass or mcstick, a rogue or rapala profile might be just a bit of a different look or profile. Fish do get conditioned to certain baits all the time on heavily pressured waters. An old bait will give highly conditioned fish something they haven't seen before.

Hey thanks for the report!! I LOVE kinkaid. I really need to get down there more. Some big ole crappie in that lake, the biggest ive ever seen. Last time i was down there, i had a tough time (i was trying for walleye), but my buddy caught a little musky (18 inches) on a wacky worm of all things lol. Keep the reports coming!

thats a heck of a deal right there.

I too have had issues with shimano, i had 2 saharas that the bail spring broke on 1, and the drag was screwy on the other. I have Pfluger spinning reels on just about all my rods now. No problems ever. Even the cheap one the Trion is a nice reel for 30 bucks. I also have an okuma reel which performs nicely. Don't know which one, but about 50 bucks if I remember. Wonder why the casting reels are so great but the spinning reels have problems? That's odd. Seems like spinning reels are so much simpler.

Like that Air stream....thanks for the advice on that rod!!! I have 3 already. For 50 bucks I performs like a 150 dollar rod. I use it as much as my river runner, is a bit more stout in the mid section with minimal decrease in casting distance for a tiny jig. All the major rod companies make pretty good stuff from 50 on up to a few hundred bucks. To get started I'd say you need 2 beginner set ups. 1. 7ft med power fast action spinning rod with a size 40 wide spool reel. Spend about 70% on the rod and 30% on the reel. Maybe 60/40 but spend ur money in the rod. 2. 7 ft med heavy power moderate fast action rod with a casting reel. Here flip the percentages amd spend ur money on the reel. I think that lews tournament mb (as has been mentioned) for 130 bucks (cheaper if you can find a sale) is the best reel I've ever used. I've never spent big bucks on gear, but that reel is that most user friendly thing ever. Those two set ups along with a crappie rig are what I use 90 percent of the time. Kind of a jack of all trades set up. Eventually you'll add more rods to accommodate more techniques, but that's a versatile starting point.

I have that book lol!!!! My son really liked it....no joke. That flat dog is my favorite wacky worm. Very fragile, only good for a fish or two but they work better than a dinger imo when weightless wacky rigged. They are great baits just not for a ned rig.

What a great video!!! fishing for panfish on light gear is just about my favorite thing to do. Looks like you had a great time!

Just about my favorite picture ever on oaf.

I'm surprised more guys don't throw hot n tots in craw colors just like wiggle warts. Seems like something fish don't see a lot of. Nice report!

What an awesome report nice going!!

Does he usually catch em on a jig? I bet if you watch tackle warehouse you'll know right away what jig he used. It will be the next silver bullet that we are all missing.
-
Great trip! Always good when the kids get involved in the catching!

That's a heck of a day on a tough stretch! Nice job.

My theory is that i always park right next to a very nice rig...that way my POS set up looks totally undesirable by comparison. Its worked so far! Once at stockton though i came down to the dock and someone had taken the crawlers outta my boat and left worm dirt everywhere. That was annoying although i was only out a few bucks.
