Be thankful it is only otters. Some places you might fish it could be muskies sharks or gators. Just do not leave the fish laying in the water on a stringer to die.

Maybe Wrench coined out pink out time. But I never know him to use it. But then again have never heard him utter a word. I use the expression pink UP. Thats what I learned. I guess it goes both ways. It is a prime fishing time in the summer period provided you got the other two sides of the golden fishing triangle in place. The right place and right way. Its takes all three.

Well Bill. You got to keep trucking. And not getting any more getting old thoughts in your head than are necessary.

IT is something like that up here at LOZ right now. I do not ay much attention to water temperature up here. It really jumps all over the place from spot to spot. Docks cause a lot of this. but falling the shade is big help Me and my neighbor go out for about 2 hours almost ever evening. Rarely go more than a mile from the house. We had been catching 4 to10 keepers with a with a occasional 4+ occasionally every time out This past week the thrill was gone we are still caching plant of fish but the size has went down I Feel Like ibis related to the moon phase and the nearing of transition time .

I do not think there is Ness my grandkids when back this week at ParkwayD9strict in St Charles. There is so many things and programs going on now in schools some are in classes more than they are out.

I hate that sort of S--- I got a bunch of those near me. When the subject rears its head I will ask the person.. How would you like it if you fought for this country like in WW2 for instance then come home and are told you have to drink out of a certain fountain and ride on the back of the bus. Or maybe have to remember you had relatives was hung from a tree someplace down south... that is why we have a lot of these problems today. I am not a person of color but. I am a first generation removed from Coal mines and Sweat shops. When you hear what went on in the past to your relatives it hardens you to certain things I tend to look at all privileged people as a potential problems and do not seem to ever be able to bring myself to trust them

Years ago when we first came to LOZ we had a small business and traveled to crafts shows around Mlo. We built birdhouses and also miniaturized peoples homes plus a couple of big houseboats. There are several in Collections. Believe it or not people do collect them. Those birdhouses have wound up all over from California to Germany that I know of. The name of the business was Ozarkian Creations. Birdtown USA. The Ozarkian just sort of stuck. -
Yeah they are fun but 7-8 lb hybrids are a thrill my hybrid fishing buddy insist on catching them on 6 ft crappie rod with 6lb test line. They will make 4 or 5 good long runs on that outfit before we get them into a net. He had one last hear close to 8. We go almost every weekday evening from now till crappie get real good. Do not think we are catching them all the time a 6-8 lb'er is less then a few a season but we still catch a lot of the others. I will not chase them where they come in running up into a cove. So we just sit there and wait.Seems to me that way we seem to catch a lot of them before they break the surface and fill there mouth. After they do that they arr ready to go home for the most part.

It is a good time to watch your fish finder when shad are hitting like that. They slash a lot and kill more than they eat. When those shad sink they draw some large fish that sort of run around under the whites with there mouth open scooping the falling shad in. Good way to catch yourself a monster of any type of fish. The big ones tend to be deep fish except for a for short periods during the season. I have never caught a Hybrid over couple of more than a couple lbs on the surface where most anglers chase them. All my larger ones above 5-6 came from at least 15ft while the surface action with all the fisherman in tow was going on. I guess it happens but not for me.

It is the damage these boats cause when they visit his place and Barefoot bar. or about anyplace else in on the lake. But I will make a proposal right here and now. If there was a 3-5% charge annually against these lake front places and owners and against large wake boats and put into a damage pool. I might accept that. You can be arrest fined and made to pay for and damage you might do to these peoples property in Yuppie Land.. Also I am very concerned somebody is going to take things into their own hands they way they did years ago down by the Dam. They boaters make the damage and the bussiness line there pockets with cash because they support it. So both are to blame besides money talks and the patrol listens carefully. Enforcement of anything by the patrol of these people i think is about zero.

I certainly hope you have no desire to give it a shot of having it on LOZ my friend.. Place gets crazier every day . Last evening a buddy and me were coming in right at dusk and what to my wondering eyes should appear but a Runabout towing a shall child down the channel of of the Gravois on a tub not far below a drunk tank known as coconuts. Had that kid fell off he might have had a hard time finding him. Then again the driver might have been too drunk himself to see.

I been wondering about the durability of them in rivers when running shoals. Would seem the pedal type if it were top or the other thing would take a beating if you did not get out in time to slide it through. As far as standing I fish with a butt seat. A practice that may be coming to a end. I like to thru myself out of my friends big 18ft Jon boat last evening. It has two decks a full floor and is wide and fairly deep. I was stepping down into the cobalt from the back deck and missed the seat and wound up on the floor. I like to say it was because I misjudged a small wake but the truth is I hater to admit was that at about a about a year and a half from 80 I am just not as sure footed as I was. My other buddy has a 18 ft bass boat and getting down from his back seat is a test in courage I think. I look at those kayaks and know they are out of my class. I imagine I will finish my days in my big old 19 ft Targa.

Last week I was in St Charles to buy a new trolling motor at Tri State Trolling Motor. While there I got to look at the line of Kayaks. Was the first time I ever really gave them a going over.I will tell you if I was 40-50 years younger You could not stop me from having one of those things. They open a whole whorld of fishing opportunities. But I imagine most of the opportunities are over run just like LOZ is.. But even at that a good fisherman could really do well in one. And there are a cheap fishing boat. I got neighbors laying out 80k plus for something they are going to pay for a long long time. Matter of fact I would about guess the odds are very high they will be paying longer than the boat or motor might last. Those things are also a inviormental blessing. You coil fish more for almost nothing compared to roaring around some lake with 250hp.

Those kind of lyrics are really counter productive to behavior we would like to see in our society. I know from my hearing days back in the 50s and 60s I was real impressed with country honky tonk tunes with wild drinking and running around lyrics It turned me into one a first class Honky Tonk Man just like the lyrics from that song for awhile. Doing things that I am ashamed of having done after all these many years. This friend of mine almost ruined her carrier over refusing to sing and play honky tonk stuff.. Closest I have ever known her to get to it now days is the song Jolene that she recorded with Dolly Parton..I Have great respect for this lady and her strong belief in in good clean lyrics.

My interest is such in pro fishing that I forgot what FLW stood for.. I think that is wheeler it belongs as well

Its not a rig everyone will learn to love that is for sure. It can tangle up in the fish brush and about anything handy. It can be very frustrating but then again it is a winner. I often use it more like a a Carolina rig than a drop shot. I do not carry a dozed rigs for nothing but I have learned not to drop them into brush piles. I can find plenty of bass in other places.I reserve brush piles for my large 10' plus worms..I carry both side by side this time of year.

If your old enough Al you might remember when there were monsters walleyes in the St Francis. Back in yesteryear where i come from there was one spot that walleye over 10 were taken every year. The yuppies and yippies are not real fisherman. They are just wanna-bees seeking attention. I recently met a young fellow who just financed a new bass boat for 20yrs. Of course that means the rest of there family will have to sacrifice so he can pay and run that thing. Geezzxz such a fine display of resposibity. He will blow the motor before it is ever paid for. Way were going there might not be a world 20 years from now anyway.

My neighbor is a top notch crappie fisherman bar none. In the fall he uses a long pole with 2-3 hooks on it. As far as getting twist on a drop shot I make up a dozen or so at a time. I put a swivel above the hook and just tie the line to the swivel. Works fine with my heavy stuff

Sounds about like us but we arte only out for max of 2 hrs and never more than 1/2 mile from the house. Does not take long in this heat to make our old butts stat having problems breathing. I have not even been as fart as Coffman I love even catching those shorts 13-14 inches long. They are heavy for that size and give a very good account of themselves.
-
That is interesting Wrench. My neighbor and I have been getting keepers in both areas. The bigger ones have been from about 15 all the way down to 25.The action is pretty slow though. With this heat it is real easy to kill one bringing them up from either place. We only been fishing late evening shade for 2 hours or less..It do not recommend it for older folks with heart conditions. You got to be a junkie.
-
I would think a double drop shot could be a real mess. At least mine would be with two hooks on it. But I guess if it is small enough it might be a good thing..My own are comprised of things like 1 oz weights and 0/5 hooks.

As strange as it seems I have a friend that writes lyrics and has sung them all over the world. The thing is almost without fail carry a msg or else are related too her own life experiences and her faith. She flat refuses to write about violence, and most of the ills in our society. I respect that a great deal.
-
I read a lot of lyrics partly because I cannot hear the music. you get a different perspective reading them. Seems to me most of the time They make no sense or and many do deliver morally wrong msg about things like drinking, sex and Infidelity or even violence. I can see where that when hooked to a good tune might have a negative impact.

I have fished spoons for big catfish for many years. I am not at all sure just how a flutter spoon differs all that much. If all it does is flutter I do not think i would be to interested in it. Not all spoons drop the same. And a lot of the time the smaller spoons beat the larger ones I like a spoon that drops and flutters but also like it to pause in the flutter and shoot off to the side suddenly now and then. Here on LOZ one of the most popular spoons is the Kastmaster. I have caught a lot of nice Hybrids up to 7lbs lbs on a 3/8oz Kastmaster. The Bomber spoon is another one I favor. I primary use both these as to bottom bouncers especially the bomber. The bomber I would never call a flutter spoon. It tends to make long swings as it goes down. Nothing i would want to mess with around trees. Got another spoon in my box called a Red Eye. My father bought this thing back close to 90 yrs ago I guess in the early 30s. I think this is about as close to a flutter spoon as I have ever used. I have used it a few times and have caught small catfish on it, Think it might be good for fishing for stripers and bought one a PBS that is as large as a babies hand. Have not tried it yet. But will any day now.
