  1. That is for sure Richy----- But it does do something for personal promotion, I had never thought of it as a named thing. It was just a way to rig it up. It is like Guido Hibdon being the father of fitness fishing. I was surprised many of these guys were not aware of it. It is just a rigging you automatically will come to thru experience.
  2. the thing is be adaptable. Its called finding the pattern. I go along with Doc. I bet you could troll it on down riggers. That is how it was born in the salt waters. Shad run in schools usually large schools and thats it the more the merrier. If there is a reason i would imagine it has to do with a change in forage diet.
  3. I Lived 1 mile from weldon springs my last few years in St Louis area. There are grass carp in Weldon springs . Intentionally i might add. But that area has become heavily populated. the problem over there is just too many people. I bet it is still a good place to pick blackberries though.
  4. J-Doc when I posted that I was sort of thinking about deep trolling. Would seem that would be good down there.
  5. i do not use them. but you have it a little twisted. they will hit it anytime of the year if it used in the right place at the right time. that what is the important thing not the lure. that is whats called the pattern. you will figure that out yourself
  6. except for a few tjmes I brought people down from the birds nest to Onandaga for a outfitter i would tie the bow rope my little 14 ft john boat to a quick release clip and and attach it to my belt. i would then wade dragging my boat behind me. i would cross some holes with my little 3hp kicker. I would go up that way 4-6 hours then float back..
  7. yeah avoid bassin bob he is a hustler.
  8. RSBRETH You got a. good point there. There used to be a guy down at clearwater fished the Black River and used the Old Flip tail worms in the 9 1/2 in size. He did very well for himself. GAVIN if you want very light weight and weedless just buy some of those eagle claw weedless hooks and put it in whatever you want and fish it with no other weight. Another thing you can do is carry a assortment of split shot and put them on the line right next to the hook. I like the kind that allow you bend them back to remove them so that I can adjust the sink rate
  9. i do not know Ned or do I think he deserves credit for something that has been fished in the Ozark's for many many years. I am just surprised that some of you just did not stumble onto it yourselves. I can remember using it on the Streams in the Ozark's at least 35 yrs ago. Would take my little 6" creme worm,s after the head was torn up and break them off and put them on a 1/16 or 1/8 oz crappie jig, Llove the purple ones with the pink tipped tail.
  10. I do not know wrench but those up north of Versailles do bot care for. were english you know and they will rip you off. I just do not believe if there is a total war they should be exempt from serving. I really have some issue with the total control they exrecise over those people
  11. I will not be watching that program. it reflects very poorly on the state and the people. There are far to many people today with a poor attitude about Arkansas and its people. They used to do the same about people from SE Mo. People nowdays just love to stereotype
  12. I have no doubt there is someone like that. That what I mean by extreme.
  13. i would not want to do that. but if you want to do it go ahead and try but you better not get caught at it. And that will be very hard to hide. I bet there are people over there feeding them. i will say this though. If people start feeding them they will come back they will be back at dawn the next day wanting to be fed. they can wake the dead with the honking.they are really really loud.
  14. small holes starting to appear down the gravois around Gibson point and mill creek. there are 6 white trumpeter swan sitting the the spot off gibsons Point.
  15. when you get to be as hungry as they are it might just happen.
  16. If you like that lure use it as long as the bass are in its productive range. you use it you understand it. and having confidence in it is a lot of the reason you caught so many bas on it. Just do not get stuck on it. there is still jigs and other things that will have there time over the season. As far as mid March If your talking about Table Rock I do not know. But if your talking about LOZ mid March your going to get your best fishing following the rocky channel banks. thing is they can be either very shallow or deep so you have some choices. rogue type, shallow plastics like flukes, jigs, and Carolina rigs. Try them all.
  17. Champ a temp below 40 is real tuff anyway. I am hoping we get some strong sun when the ice goes. out here on LOZ. that might bring on the very shallow bite no matter what the water temperature. The lake has been the coldest I think i have ever seen it this year. suppose to be only about 35 at 6 ft.
  18. ido not expect to see a bunch of people on LOZ for awhile yet. it os 16 as I write this. we are not predicted to have a night above freezing till Thursday. I look forward to turning off my de icer. it is a 1 1/2 horse power electric eating pig. I do not expect to see a lot of clear water though until no later than mid next week unless this showers we are suppose to have Monday turns into a good warmer rain. i understand the ice is about 4 " or more on most of the lake.
  19. I remember one in St Louis must have been inthe 80s. Was worst than this. lets hope it is about over. I only got about 3 wheelbarrows of wood left.
  20. ADDICTION!!!!! Never have i used that word. I always used NEED. My wife however has referred to it in terms I have not heard since I was a sailor. I guess just feel like there are a lot of outfits out there plying on our NEED. A lot of these pros are running around displaying the rod and reel they are using because they had better do it are somebody will pull a support plug. You will never hear one say he likes something else as well when in truth he does not think there is a dines worth of differance. You know some of these guys use that rod and reel only a short time then it winds up in a shed or a basement with many more like them. I can guarantee you the sponsor does not want something to break down with a bunch of people around. I do not trust pure graphite much in really cold weather. I had a Jonny Morris one time that I liked real well I used to drive a lot of cast with it.Then one day making a driven cast in the high 30s the rod snapped into 4 pieces in my hand. It felt like firing a pistol. I have never had that happen with my favored Ugly sticks. Even though they are considered by some somewhat inferior as a fishing rod. I get in close to 300 days a year averaging about 4 hours or more a day. But I am still fishing Ugly Stik rods I bought in 1976 when they hit the market. As for as reels I am as old as dirt. I really like Garcia. A Garcia reel is easy to clean, easy to repair and has long long life span. Another reason is I have a friend that does a lot of rod and reel repair. His back counter often has nothing back there but expensive reels in need of expensive parts to repair. I do have a new Quantum Kinetic that I bought for on one of those new Ugly stik Pro lite rods. The reason is Arthritis. I am looking to something lighter to flip and pitch in back of docks. Until the last year or so I never used any anti backlash. I still do not 90% of the time but that is why I bought the Kinetic. I tend to be the same way about lures. Although I do not have many lures but have boxes and boxes of some I don't use anymore. It seems to me if you have a few that you know them backwards and forwards your going to save yourself a lot of frustration about what they are hitting on when its how they are hitting. a lot of lures will do a lot of different things. I just try to know everything about a lure. Sometimes if you have a bunch to choose from your digging in the tackle and I believe it can certainly hamper you success rate. I have one new lure and that is the BBZ . I look forward to a year of getting to understand it completely. I guess what I am saying is in my old ways I
  21. I think it might be next week around tuesday or wednesday before we see a ice out. suppose to snow tomorrow then we will get a warm upned the nights to stay above freezing.
  22. I heard that also and the conservation commission swears by it. But it looks to me like they have somehow done some adapting.
  23. well he gets around I seen him yesterday up on 94 near Hermann in the company of a cardinal. I think it is going to be early part of next week before we see Ice out. I believe there is one day its suppose to rain and be up in the mid 50's I hope so. We are suppose to go to St Charles to baby sit friday and will be home Saturday. I do not like to be gone when the ice is breaking up. I was told today by someone at the bowling ally that there is better than 3 inches of ice on a lot of it. v
  24. were both in our 70's Ham. what good would it do if it did work.
  25. well MOSallies the difference I think between most of you and me is I come from a different generation. I know what works for me and to be truthful after 65+ years of fishing it looks to me like there is no real need for a lot of is stuff.
