I never tried spoons in that way around here. I am going to. Trouble around here nearly all the docks or filled with boats. I know some people that own a monster marina though about 3 miles away. I am going to go down there and see what happens Their slips are for house boats and cruisers. They are as large as 20 by 50. I have used unweighted plastic worms in there with limited success. Most of my fishing there has been for crappie at night under light.

I live on LOZ and own a 2 stall 30 by 30 dock myself. One thing about docks is the shade they create keeps the water below them a lot cooler. I use a variation of the drop shot rig a lot. I use it around dock some but use it mostly like you would i areas you would use a Carolina rig. The only difference is mine is heavier tackle than you would think of a drop shot being. My hooks are 03 and larger, my weights are 3/8 oz and larger bait type bell sinkers and the distance from hook to sinker is from 12 to 18 inches. Most worms I use on this rig or about 6 to 8 inches. I like it because I can fiddle more with the presentation. It is not for everyone. You can wind up spending more time untangling the line from around a keeper than it took to catch him. It can also be a pain to cast. But it can be pitched a long ways a long ways with very good accuracy.

Well I never meant to imply I do not like brushing. I been brushing on LOZ for over 20 years and on wappapello and Clearwater before that. So I know something about brushing. I know the work it takes. I remember a time about 35 yrs ago or so when Clearwater froze and I and a few others used a tractor to pull cedars out of the woods over 20 ft tall to build crappie beds on top of the ice. Myself, I do not use cedar much around here. Like those gnarly oak tiptops when I am able to get them.

The new media has been destructive to society in general. The rumor mongering bunch is the worst of them. That is one of the bug reason we are where we are.

I posted the above just a short while ago. I based that on s What the dear wife told me while we were in the store. After I posted it I looked up gingham and it turns out it was a strong weave. SOOOO I would have to say the wife did not want me to buy another fishing shirt and took advantage of my ignorance to bamboozle me. But I still did not like the sort of sissy colors and would not have bought one anyway.
-
Yeah I have looked at the shirts in Wally World. I am not for those bright colors. Mine are very light tan and one is canvas green. I noticed also that those shirts were 100 percent gingham material. I was told they would fall apart pretty fast.

I do not fish what should be called a drop shot. But here i s something you might want to try I use it all the time where you would use a Carolina rig. I put a swivel on the line and below that a few inches I put a bas hook size 02 or 03. Then I attach a 1/4 to 3/8 bait type bell sinker about 18 inches or so below that. This I cast of pitch into areas you would be using a Carolina rig. I use plastic worms on it 6 inches or longer. You can do more with this than a Carolina Rig. It gives you options in the presentation.

I would think top waters or wake bates would always be the ticket there. They are shallow and and buzz baits would be my number one choice then poppers. Maybe even unweighted trick or wacky type worms.

Color means a lot less than it is cracked up to mean. Technique and fish habit knowledge Is the main thing. Right now I have about 200 10 to12 inch plastic worms in my locker. They are all in some natural brown color. They work just fine during this time if year and depth I am fishing for me.

I agree with bill.bot only do is the market for of variations and types of lure it is filled with every color of those i every color of the rainbow. Some guy will get on TV and sell you some be cause he is paid to do it. Rolland Martin is one if those who is especially bad about it. I do not like to be pressured about buying anything. All this has just driven up cost of what was a simple sport.

I agree 1000 percent with Jim. I have 3 nylon long sleaze fishing shirts that I bought a few years ago at Wallmart for about 15- 20 bucks as I recall. I do not go out on the lake in warmer months without one on. To me thy feel like a a second skin. I also have 4 of those wide brim hats. They are the vented kind in light colors with snap up sides. I wear them just about everywhere. The shirts I wear also for work in the garden. Even though it is a primary shade garden it gets enough sun to give you a burn in part of it. The fishing type shirts are and hats keep you a lot more comfortable doing that as well. I spend about 4 hours a day every day in the garden that covers our entire lake front lot. We have two plant collections( about 100 hosta plants and numerous coral bell plants) plus a lot of other things that keep me busy several hours a day. I am so thankful my boat is sitting in my dock right at the end if the yard so in manage to fish also most days. The shirts have taken a lot of abuse and have held up better than cotton.

Well for one thing there is more people.

I am not a tournament fisherman. I'm not so sure I even if the whole idea does not do more harm than good.. I do wonder however what defines cheating. The thing I'm thinking about is hidden brush piles and that sort of thing. Around these parts people can get pretty inventive with that. I Know of some that that will drag brush and other things under selected docks to hide it. And believe me it is hid that way. Then they leave it go and do not fish it. In doing so they have gained a advantage in a tournament. That is something that boarders on cheating to me.

I was thinking of a lot of younger people that want to catch a lot if bass when i made that post. i should have mentioned that. In that respect electronics can get into the way at times. I can understand your need if your a vertical fisherman. I do that at certain times of the year as well that is why I got 2 units on the boat. I love to catch large catfish on a light bait casting outfit using 12 lb test line and a spoon. I have caught them up to 48 lbs doing this. I call it a poor mans salt water adventure. It is not a regular thing but it is a thrill only matched by hybrids.
-
I have 2 units on my boat and neither one or expensive. I believe that you can get to involved with all that stuff and it will cost you a lot if fish. You get involved with the electronics and it takes away from your consentration. I do like something with high resolution, but mine are rarely turned on.

It will be a cold day in hell before you ever see a cottonmouth on lake if the Ozark's.

I have fished for ore than 60 years. I do so because it takes me out of the world rat race. I do not need to SE politics on this forum.

First Attempt As Handmade Spinners
Old plug replied to mic's topic in Fly Tying Discussions & Entymology
The color is really secondary as far as attractant goes, its the technique and spinner blade that does it. Your imitating a fish with all the spinners such as those in the picture. I was fishing with a friend with buzz baits not long ago and the skirt on the spinner was rotted and fell off. He just kept fishing it and caught fish the same as if it was there. I used to make single, twin and buzz spinners. I looked for high quality materials such as ball bearing swivels etc. -
You need a buzz bait. I do not like Ouse them but there is nothing in the world like them. Something about that big flippity flip flip and bubbles that really excites them. You need to use it very early and late in the day if the pond is clear. I would try a 1/4 oz because they stay up on top easier.

Retirement is not all fishing and hunting. You will enjoy that for a few years then you will be gin to pick up the aches and pains that come with age. Some of us get by longer than others. But a lot of it depends on your genes and your life style.

I am not paranoid Al just have had hands on experience. Today however with most law enforcement monitoring the Internet it might be a lot safer than 15 yrs ago.

Theft At Cooper Creek Boat Ramp Parking Lot
Old plug replied to Bill Babler's topic in Table Rock Lake
After reading this I am very glad my boat is parked in my dock. I have not really tailored a boat in years. -
I live on LOZ. I own a 2 stall dock. Many people do not know that LOZ the lake is privately owned and they permit fishing anywhere on the lake. That includes dock. Since Table Rock is owned by the Corp of Engineers. I do not see how they could restrict fishing around resort or any other type dock. After all the lake ultimately belongs to all citizens of the nation. Maybe Arkansas has made some type of legislation but not in Missouri. We have a couple wackos think they own the land under the lake.

Ozark's outfitters in Laurie might be a good place.

As far as name use goes it is not a good idea todo anywhere on the Internet. I spent a few years as a member of the CYber Angels (if any of you recall the organization) I have seen all kinds of thing on the Internet and to make a long story short it is really not a good idea to reveal your identity.
