I got to wonder about the Liability of owning a strip pit. I used to fish a lot of them in central Illinois. Most were on land owned buy a coal company that has moved on. They always had them posted. Maybe that is enough for some outfit like Peabody Coal. God only knows the number folks they have killed over time and got away with it. But I am not sure posting would keep a individual out of trouble in the present day courts. My son was a full time swimming pool builder before he switched to Industrial & commercial property management. There were so many legal pitfalls in owning a pool it was one of the reasons he never built one for himself. I think it would be about the same for the little guy.

It happens to everybody. Usually happens to me at the start or end of A seasonal change. Real easy to get skunked then because were human The fish are in there element. They make shifts and changes and pull the rug out from under your a bit.

I think things might be a bit better today but the popularity of everybobdcand yos bother out on the river and the distraction of the environment that come with it is not good but way back in yeasteryear they did worse and the rivers recovered wonder if that might happen again. Back in my wife's grandfather day the they about blew up the merames and the creek from Steelville to Sulivan. He told stories about his dinamite days.

Gen your fishing deep you might have a problem in the summer because you bring them up to fast. You got to give them time and let it play out. I catch a lot of my summer bass on LOZ at 30ft. You horse them in from that depth here and your going to loose a lot of them. Especially if they are 3 lbs or better.

If it is a leak is in a above ground pipe it can be stopped but putting a sleve on it. To be truthful I cannot believe the situation has gone for as long as it has. The Police or county sheriff would have to have reacted long ago. Geez never heard such stuff.

well if you had come in at Coffman and attempted to go blasting up the gravois in what looked like calm water you would not have gotten as far as Cedar Point.There was some boats damage trying that Satirday morning. I will get my share I am not going to go out if there is a xhance of tearing up my boat.

I do not drink except at maybe some even at those do not know course on even a yearly basis. And when I do it is usually at a toast. Heck of behavior I suppose for a 25 yr member of the Elks.

I have not heard a word or music since the early 60s I sort of console myself with following the carrear and reading the lyrics of the songs of someone I know.

I worry more about a high wind and warm weather. Those monster chunks star to move they can do it a a surprising speed. When that happens all you can does hope your not in there direct path. There is just nothing will stop them. Yesterday morning there was waterontop off the ice and the lake being calm gave the impression of open water. My advise is just stay off the water.

Evedently the lake cleared down by Coffmans Beach. Because it is clear in one place it does not mean it all is. We had a melt on top of the ice last night and it would give you the impression of open water. Especially when the wind was calm as it was This morning. My neighbor msg me and told me on less than 5 boats plowed into the solid covering of Ice up by Cedar Point. One large bass boat came flying up there full tilt and crashed into the ice that was just below the surface. No idea of any damage or injuries. He did say the guy running on full tilt was taking on water when he left. I have seen these situations before with water on top of ice. It is dangerousness if you do not know what is there. I would wait till I was sure where I was going

my neighbor tells me he has seen no less than 5 boats out of Coffmens slam into ice this morning.You see there is a tiny bit of melt on top of the ice and it gives you the impression that it's that you can go flying up the clear glass like lake with no problems. HE said one of these nut was in a asks. Boats on full tilt. When he got out of the ice and started back to Coffmans beach he was taking water. any of you guys have any idea how fast you will last out there in that lake at it current temperature.

That is impossible. If you do not do it the right way at the right time in the right place nothing will consistent. I think everyone on here knows Wrench is a very good fisherman on this lake and he does just fine right under the nose of Coconuts Bar and what have you in the Gravois. I have the advantage off picking the time and place I want to fish and I can better than hold my own in the mid and lower Gravois. lot of things work against the weekender

I need to add something about the medical aspect out here. I do not have but one Doctor in The lake area. She is my family practice. Everything else is in Jefferson City at St Marys and Columbia at MISSOU. That said you question everyone you can find about the medical things about living out here and get recommendations about the hospitals and Doctors. Iwill say there have been instances but I would never put them down in writing.

I learned long ago on this lake Bass are where you find them. It does not end with brush and docks on this lake..It matters to you a lot more than the fish about the color the water. You let the water color get into your head and it is like tin cans on a string. It is going to go from your thinking right down the line to what on the end of your line and reflect your thinking. If I was fishing a tournament in March I think would want my spinning outfit with 8 or maybe even 6 lb lb test on it to fish suspending baits very shallow around rocky banks and points. I would have a bait caster rod as well with 12 lb test on it and a 5/16 th ounce jig it and would fish channel banks including the docks and anything else along the way. I say with 5/16 and 12lb line because I find IMO that is a good balance of tackle for that time frame.

So does everything else. Frozen solid all as far as I can see down past coffins bend is frozen right now.

There are things to consider when you buy out here. Do you have sewer, water and ambulance close by etc. What about police and ambulance protection( and do not bet on it being fast even if the stuff is about 3 miles away as I am) Year before last I collapsed from lack of water and radiation treatment I laid passed out on the road for 40 minutes before they showed up from Laurie. Response time to Laurie by the Sherif in versailles is over 40 minute Unless one just happens to be close. Every cold day in hell you might see on around here. Never seen one patroling. This is the law enforcement area that Peircy from. Laurie police or 7 miles from me but they don't get there much faster. Then there is sewers. Believe me it is going to happen all over the lake. But right now the local and state government do not want to spend the money. So check that out also. I pay $ 60 a month for my sewers. We have a sewer district and I know some of the board. The problem is getting money. The powers that be are not interested in cleaning up the lake. Prepare to work in your retirement if you do not want to Buy a condo. I could not live in a Condo myself or even a indentured subdivision. Reason being I do not like the kind of neighbors you will get in those joints. If friendly helpful neighbors mean anything to you get into one of the small subdivisions. People today are not what they were years ago. Check your lot carefully. if its steep the home on it might be a slider. Only place I have ever seen with more major foundation problems is Hermann Mo. I have been looking for a part time home in Hermann mo for a couple years and have yet to find one with a stable foundation. There are animals out there especially at night. You be careful what you plant in the yard. Something will be munching on it. Either that or digging holes. Like Armadillos ,they will dig through anything to git at whats under it. Surprise one crossing the road at night and it will not run more than likely It will jump straight up in the air about the hight of the center of your grill where it may very well go thru that and your radiator as well. This does not happen often but the body shop over in osage beach sees enough of them Then there are the deer. If your a city boy you might think were all just bad driver when you can't see a thing a big as a deer. Wrong most of the time it is not you hitting a deer it is the deer hitting you. They think they can outrun something going 30-40 MPH they do not run away they will run out and try to go around the front. Never seem to think about running around the back and when they are making these moves they will every close and will just dart out. Have we hit any ?YES. My wife hit 3 and I hit 1 group you might say. When I hit mine there were 4 of them in back of a berm. All 4 darted out together. The leader hit the headlight While I was swerving into the other lane and the other 3 ran into the car from the from door to the back back fender without doing any damage.Only thing damaged ws the headlight from the lead deer. Well I am tired of typing and i know there more. But if your a city boy just be prepared for a lot of adjustment. Maybe if you are not so muc of a fishing nut you better stay where you are. Then there are the abundance of Deer.

I owned a single shot 410 that killed many a rabbit. Trouble with it was not going to get doubles on squirrels unless they stopped for a bit. I bought a 410. pump a few years back . Love it. It really is also been my weapon to kill the Armadillos with loaded with a slug.

No doubt it will if they do not have a good deicerMine clears the water all round my double stall dock. I am very thankful the Ice has not gotten very thick around here. We got a warm up coming should break it up before it get to the thickness were it is a terror if you are the wind direction line at the time when the ice flows start moving. That is when the real bad damage comes including the anchors in the sea wall also

If your thinking about wondering around out there on it THINK TWICE. I have seen 6 inches several times on this lake but I would not dare go out on it. Warn Warner from ground melt snow or sain Shang other things goe down into the ground and eventually being Warner comes up in the lake under the ice wArming spots here and there that you do not see but they are thin enough for you to go through. that is up by you wrench. Bet it is 3" up there that's fern frozen a few days.

I will say this again After years of of being involved with service between veterans and politician. also having done a bit of lobbing with a organization your state rep cannot be trusted to get anything for you that the laed dog of his party does not want. Someone mentioned earlier about if the something does not pass your rep can say well I tried. LEt me tell you you have no idea how much that situation is done deliberately. Even on a National level. YO see it gives the impression to the voters back home the rep is fighting for them when really he does not want that and the comittee know so. JUst one of the games.
