They updated score tracker stats
total fish put on score tracker 6,078
total weight 9,815 lbs.
Martens weight for 4 rounds was 283.4 which was a record
They just put up a pie chart. Around 6,000 fish caught with half being largemouth for a little over 12,600 lbs. I would think that is up to the minute and they still have another couple hours to go. That's over 6 tons folks, pretty awesome fishing. You would think they would stumble across some bigger ones though.
Clearly this is the way to put on a tournament. Unfortunately from the logistics with technology needed to pull this off would be impossible for the majority fishing for $. You need a lake with near 100% cellular coverage and some deep pockets to go along with it. It is awesome to watch though. Table Rock is full of fish, be really interesting in a couple years when they grow up. These high water years will start paying dividends big time.
I was catching them on a pointer with the boat in 25. The other 2 guys in the boat wanted to get closer to the bank because they saw one spawning under the walkway back at the dock. I'd rather catch them coming UP or IN than on the bank. You gotta catch a couple to convince them. I kept saying we need to get out a little deeper but 25 ft seemed to be the compromise. Its hard for some to do but with the clear water forget the bank out to 5 foot.
I caught them throwing a pointer 100 on bluff banks, working it pretty quick. When I say bluff bank 25 ft the boat is in and a good shot to the bank. Your reel needs to screem and that pointer is heavy enough to get out there. Those smallies are nuts in this lake they don't give up. Fish new water, I caught fish in stuff I've never seen. I love exploring
Caught 5 this morning in the rain. Grub and jerker, 1 keeper smallie. We were in aunts just put the trolling motor down and covered water. There is about a 4 lb female under the walkway in about 3 foot of water. She has been under there for the 2 days I've been here. Flipped a little 3 inch swamp bug at her but she just flared her gills at it and smiled at me as she swims away. An old girlfriend of mine used to do the same thing.😛 might head up to KC bridge shortly
We caught some nice smallies on a jerk bait today along with 3 giant crappie like Bill had the other day. Solid 2-2.5 pounds, really nice ones . We were up the James and fished back down to the island up from aunts
Ill be down on Wednesday. I'm going to tie on a grub/swimbait, topwater, jerkbait, and something I can drag. That should cover all the bases I hope. I think your spot on with the water clarity, they might be a little deeper than you would think right now.
Thats where the word compromise comes in, BBT events aren't held during those 2 months. What difference does it make whether you catch the biggest fish in April or October.
I think Canada has it right with not keeping bass during the spawn. That seems like a logical compromise everyone could agree on, say from March 20 thru May 20. Catch all you want but shut off the live well. It would only help everyone in the end.
