Little Piney Access - Run-In With Landowner
ColdWaterFshr replied to Chris Barclay's topic in Big/Little Piney River
Regarding Vida slab - I wouldn't leave a car there. I've witnessed firsthand the Mo Hwy Patrol issuing tickets to every single car parked there or anyone using the gravel bar. Had the rollers lit up and everything -
Would be cool to see a Dry Run Creek put in at Taney. Funnel all those outlets into a culvert and make it a kids only fishing zone. Landscape may not be practical for it without spending some serious dollars though.

The euro nymphing thing looks like an interesting technique for smaller to mid-size waters like Al says, but the smaller waters I fish have canopy of trees and the fish are spooky . . . so I just see it as a niche method for a certain type of water. Maybe I'm wrong. Related to this topic, what is everyone's favorite type of indicator? I'm still on a quest to find the perfect one. Thing-a-mabobbers - not happy with. I've tried both the screw-top, the circle eyelet type, and circle eyelet with a peg. Football indicators with the rubber gasket. Yarn indicators. Foam with tooth pick. Rubber bandy loops hanging off the foam type. What else is there? There's gotta be a better way.

With mandate in hand, we arrived this morning in the cold grey light of dawn, with no less than two Pfizer scientists accompanying yours truly, Paul Dallas. No joke. With these low light favorable conditions, we set up our inoculation procedure with designs to cure the entire streams fish population of the miserable plague. 1. Pfizer scientist #1, armed with a fast 7 weight and fishing with some kinda OPST or PTSD skagit, and an articulated streamer fully capable of piercing the armor plated forehead of Marjorie T.G. 2. Pfizer scientist #2, armed with a sturdy spinning rod set-up and a deadly array of jerk baits in a Samsonite sized plano box (control group - usually guaranteed money). 3. Paul Dallas retired all-pro #3, fishing first with streamer, then later with Walts Ivermectin de-Sexy Wormer. (pic attached). Staunch resistance in the early morning hours to the forced streamer mandate. Many protests and carryings-on, dug-in resistance. So PD, #3 above, changed gears and made it voluntary and offered the Walts Ivermectin de-Sexy Wormer on a silver platter, with a perfect drag free drive and with a smile. Volunteers arrived in droves. This made a world of difference. Stupid fish. Stream 100% inoculated.

Pass around dangerous misinformation and you deserve to be insulted and ridiculed. The post started with something like I only wish "to inform", and this information is "critical", but then had the chincy caveat to "keep an open mind", as if to say I know many won't believe this stuff because it is a little bonkers. And it was.

One of the best games I've ever watched for sure. Feel bad for the Bills though. They have been fun to watch. The company I work for is based in Buffalo, and by golly they are CRANKY today.

February 2022 Ozark Anglers Crane Creek trip
ColdWaterFshr replied to Brian K. Shaffer's topic in Crane Creek
If I lived closer to Crane, i'd be up for joining. Only have fished it once. I believe those are definitely weakened strains from the original McClouds and yes, they survived the dust bowl period, because they weren't IN the dust bowl. Wrench, that epic calamity was much further west -- panhandle of Oklahoma and on down to Lubbock Texas, which at the time was much better farming land than rocky SW Missouri. The west Texas high plains natural grasslands were ignorantly plowed to oblivion following the depression, at the encouragement of government incentives, combined with mechanized farmland implements coming to the fore, AND in an area that already is extremely arid, with no fence rows and thus no wind-breaks, setting the table for the catastrophic dynamics that LED to the consequences of the wind-storms and blight of the dust bowl. Get your geo-agri-history facts straight! -

Wait a minute. Is Gavin's avatar Ernest T. Bass? I thought I had declared Wrench as Ernest T. Bass a long time ago. No? -

We saw JD McPherson last night in St. Louis. Rockin! I think he is playing at Knuckleheads in KC tonight if anyone is looking for something to do. You won't be disappointed. -
Just got my December issue today. Looked closer at the article and I regret commenting. Its actually pretty good. Just could use a little more detail.

"Avid" may not necessarily mean good, but here, it is overstated for sure. Not that mine are much better. Conservationist would do well to not insult our intelligence, even if it is completely obvious that they are trying to appeal to the very base level and novice of their readership . . . . someone who just discovered nature or went on their very first hike "outdoors" last weekend. Thats what it feels like. The photography and glossy production has always been top notch (Noppadol, Stonner), but the content and depth for a LONG time has been super-superficial, a 30 second bathroom read and never to want to read again. This article is a perfect example. Just look at the recipe for the ties. Materials: Hook (no kidding, size, style, or suggest a brand or two?) Hackle (same as above, could you be more vague?) yarn (ditto) thread (#$^!*) Bordering on being a disservice to the newbie. Oh well. The intention and spirit of the article is there. Either was over-edited, or was a lazy effort, or both.

The head on that EHC is a little wonky too. How do you tie to the eyelet?🤣

It turned out way better than expected. And I've spatchcocked before, but in the the oven, but didn't this time. This was the first bird I've done on the egg. Even without that, far and away the best bird I've ever stuffed in my face . . . juicy, smoked, flavor with the injections, the dry rub on the skin. It all came together. Smartest move was getting the Weber Connect probe deal, which I resisted before any fancy thermometer crap. Took all the guess work out of the equation. My 87 year old father in law approved. Redemption Rye cocktail, pre-carve. Happy Thanksgiving!

That looks outstanding.

This hit too close to home. And the saddest funeral I've ever attended. https://www.kmov.com/news/hundreds-mourn-at-ballwin-crash-site-where-three-teens-were-killed-sunday-morning/article_fca5f6ac-45c2-11ec-ab54-dfbcb88db0e6.html About a mile and half from my doorstep. Much closer for even @Mitch f My kids knew most of the kids, had classes with them. 15 and 16 year olds with their whole life ahead of them. I coached for years one of the deceased's siblings, we knew one of the families fairly well, and they are good people. Separately, my wife used to work daily side by side with the mother of the driver of the car. He was her only child. Mistakes were made all around and that is not for us to judge. A coin toss and it could've just as easily been one of my 3 kids caught up in that. My worst fear. Count your blessings. Be kind. Tomorrow's not promised. All of those old cliches that sound so hollow and yet are so true when you get smacked in the face with them. Sorry for my mean-spirited garbage through all the political stuff, . . . .to all of you. I'm working on it. Happy Thanksgiving to all of my OAF friends. We have a lot to be thankful for.

Planning to smoke a 23 lb fresh Turkey on Thanksgiving. Not really low and slow, but 350F for about 4 hours in my Kamodo Joe. Going to use peach-wood. Brining for 24 hours in advance. Also plan to inject in quite liberally with a concoction of butter, onion and garlic powder. Any other suggestions?

Cave Divers Reach 472 feet in Roaring River Spring
ColdWaterFshr replied to ness's topic in Roaring River State Park
I hope they never find the bottom. Even in a hundred years. Some places on earth deserve to be unexplored and remain unsolvable. The mystery is far more interesting than the truth. Maybe thats what draws people to Qanon. 🤣 -
Cave Divers Reach 472 feet in Roaring River Spring
ColdWaterFshr replied to ness's topic in Roaring River State Park
So when talking about "depth" . . . . is this not vertical depth measured from the surface straight down? Does that mean that 472 feet could actually only be 60 feet straight down, then along a horizontal shaft for 400 feet, and then even up 12 ft? Which is to say they went in 472 feet, not necessarily DOWN 472 feet. -

Fascinating subject. I wonder about other Missouri springs. Have they all been explored to their bottom? -

The only way we can truly verify these reports, and that the images are not digitally manipulated . . . is by firsthand witness. Whereby Paul Dallas is offering to join you on your next expedition. PM me dude.
