  1. Are the 5 10's true to their sizing? Also, any specs on weight? Hope to do the subway or the narrows hike out in Zion end of September and those look perfect
  2. Tipping over and losing yer fishing rod?? Did you try and go swimming for it? NRS Titanium. Will have to check those out. Sick of wearing wading boots (too heavy and clunky) and sandals don't do the job wading.
  3. As my cousin used to say, "Oh, Son!" Or was that Roland Martin? those are some dandys!
  4. LP is in great shape. Fished and floated the LP in 2 sections a couple weeks ago. 63 bridge to Vida for trout, and then Newburg to Gasconade for bass. Fair warning about Vida Slab -- no longer can be considered an access. MO Hwy Patrol was giving warnings to people parked along the side of the road there.
  5. Thanks for the tip, Quillback, but 4 weeks turnaround is about 3 1/2 weeks too long! Anyone used Bass Pro rod and reel repair in Springfield? Are they worth a dam?
  6. My beloved Curado 200E7 all of a sudden started reeling very rough a few weeks back. Sent it to a local tackle store for a diagnosis. They gave it a simple cleaning and lube job, but could otherwise find nothing wrong internally. Took it fishing yesterday and as soon as I got a fish on, it was back to its old ways -- binding up, very notchy reel-in, rough and ugly. What to do. Time for new reel? Or suggestions on where to send? Take it back to Bass Pro with my receipt from 2011 and demand a replacement??
  7. Nice report. Did I tell you that I'm the president of my local Nature Conservancy chapter? I want to go fishing on this secret stretch, please.
  8. I'll give you $20 for the swingset.
  9. Yep, that was it. I paddled straight out toward that island.
  10. I had good success in Peninsula State Park by renting a kayak from the concessionaire at one of the public beach accesses. Got there early before the beach area got busy, but paddled well beyond out toward one of the islands. It doesn't get very deep, but when you can't see the bottom anymore, thats when you know you're deep enough. Drop anchor, fish with a goby dark green soft plastic off the bottom. You can pick these up at Howie's Tackle in Sturgeon Bay (right off the main Hwy). Smallmouth gorge themselves on goby's and that bait looks just like one. You'll catch a few goby's too.
  11. I'd like to go fishing with Chief on that section of Prater's property. He knows where the good mushrooms are in that area and maybe he could show a few of us.
  12. I've had that happen on the Jacks Fork and 11 pt before --- people asking to share a small gravel bar with us. We've politely told them that we prefer our privacy. They seemed to get it, but still made us feel like we're being selfish. There's plenty of places to camp, just pure laziness in my opinion. If you want a pristine gravel bar, you gotta claim it early. If you want to take complete ownership of a huge gravel bar . . . thats a different story. Doesn't sound like thats the case here. That takes some nerve to even ask you to share it.
  13. Meramec blows. No bass (except for Mitch and Hogwally's pet fish!) lots of gar a big drum and . . . . . jet boats aplenty
  14. Yep, that was us. Got some drift boat practice on the oars in my buddy's boat, but good god, that was the worst 5 hours of fishing I can remember in a long time. I even brought out the heavy artillery with the Mitch Hi-Def Craw when the buzz bait, and usual cranks and plastics wouldn't produce. Nothing. Snagged on bottom just like Moguy. Was that you guys in the jet coming upstream?
  15. Jim, Let me state for the record that there is not a SINGLE smallmouth in the entire 5 mile section of Meramec that I fished today. I can attest, quite scientifically and with peer review, that there is only 1 juvenile bluegill, and also 1 drum in our study area, encompassing Hwy N to Blue Spring Ranch.
  16. Good advice all around MoCarp. Be safe and pick up trash.
  17. Upper Current is in good shape. Lots of big downed trees in places, sand, gravel bars re-arranged . . . and other places barely any noticeable change. Camped on river above Parker on Sunday night.
  18. Giddyup. Lets go Ness and Gavin.
  19. Love that creek.
  20. great pictures. Love the top one.
  21. Smack! Great audio. That would've taken your eye out for sure.
  22. Thinking about you Phil, and all the other resort owners, business owners, home owners throughout the state affected by this flood.
  23. Pretty amazing. Just floated under that bridge about 3 weeks ago. Its a good 20 feet above the water at normal levels.
  24. I'd re-think Greer to Turner as far as canoeing and wading this weekend. Water will still be very high. About 500 cfs higher than what I would consider safe or enjoyable for wading, but wouldn't be so bad in a drift boat. https://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv/?site_no=07071500&PARAmeter_cd=00065,63160,00060
  25. Chesterfield amphitheater lake. Will have to check that out. Another lake in our area, the pond in front of the Target and Whole Foods at 141 and Clayton Rd. I think I saw some pictures of someone catching some good sized bass out of there. Never fished it myself, not sure its legal to fish, or if I'd even want to fish in front of traffic.
