  1. And you assume that a gun on your hip is going to protect you and your family, as per the armed robbery article you referred to -- in the same way that a seat-belt will if you are in a collision?? Your own seat-belt is not likely to be stolen and be used against you or someone else, is it? Locking the door of your house doesn't bring with it any real deadly liability, does it? Nor does providing for your family. As others have said, the risk of carrying far outweighs the benefits. You are not professionally trained as a law enforcement officer is, right? So you really can't impress me enough that you are as responsible as you claim to be. What if you are out running errands, and you have your gun on you, and you come to a place of business that is clearly marked, "no guns". What do you do with your sidearm then? Lock it in your car? it is an emotional decision on your part to carry and it brings with it a huge responsibility. A responsibility that 99.999% of our population just is not equipped to take on. Take a look around you. The average schmo Unless you have been the victim of an armed robbery and it gives you some kind of "psychological" comfort, or puts you at ease . . . well, then you just need therapy. OR, its not that at all. Far more likely, you have these fantasies of being a hero, to be like Batman. I'm sorry, but you do.
  2. So why do you carry? Do you really feel that unsafe?
  3. Oh I understand clearly what you are saying, and I understand the gist of the article. Your using the article as a some sort've justification or as an example of why ordinary law-abiding citizens should arm themselves in public --- that is exactly where common sense and logic and disregard for statistical facts have been parked, and in its place YOUR emotion, your wishing to be BATMAN have taken over. You think its a high probability that you will find yourself in a similar situation, and that is why you carry, right? To defend yourself and others. To be the hero. You've watched too much TV.
  4. Okay, MoBass. I concede. Someday we may read an article about YOU in which you intervene and protect innocent lives and property theft. And all of us defenseless saps here in Gotham will be eternally grateful. Until that day comes . . . . you will never be Batman.
  5. No, the article we will never read is the concealed carry dude who has his gun stolen from his cars glovebox, or his home, and it is used by the criminal to kill or commit crimes.
  6. The fantasy is the very low probability of YOU ever finding yourself in this scenario, and actually being able to do something about it in such a heroic fashion, and without any legal ramifications as others have noted, and without shooting yourself in the foot, or a bystander, or misunderstanding a situation completely and making a bad situation worse. YOU, there with your trusty sidearm and your fearless bravado saving the day, just like Batman. Thats the fantasy. I wonder how many concealed carry doofuses know how to do CPR? A skill that doesn't require a permit, no risk of carrying it, and far more commonly needed in order to "save the day" . . . .
  7. And this is the childish FANTASY scenario you like to imagine yourself in. Coming to the rescue. You want to be Batman, don't you? don't you??
  8. Looking forward to heading up there in 2 weeks. Should I fish around Peninsula SP or on the main lake side? I will be on foot or probably some leaky rental kayak. I'm not hiring no #$&@ guide, so someone please PM me some tips, GPS coordinates, or good advice. I will repay in kind with barbituates and peyote.
  9. What a funny story, Bill. Good grief, 4 of them in the water swimming and diving down to the trailer??
  10. I'll be in Sister Bay the last week of July. I've been there once before and tried wade-fishing in the lake around Peninsula SP and had ZERO luck. I think a boat and a guide is a must. Would be curious to find out what works for you and compare notes when we get back.
  11. cool pics, Ness. I was down in Destin a couple months ago and everyday was like a free airshow, F-16's, F-18's, F-22's, C130 gunships, big-butt Globemasters flying low, and attack helicopters of all sorts. I especially liked the A-10's. You could hear them letting loose with the rotary cannon in the distance and several bombs being dropped I don't know where, way off shore, but darn, what a thump.
  12. I've parked at 47 bridge numerous times. Not sure how they could make those shoulders no-parking or ban the easement of the bridge. And running a barb wire fence across that creek would seem very difficult for as much as it floods.
  13. Very sorry to hear this. Wayne seemed like a helluva nice guy. Never fished with him, but felt like I knew the guy from however many years we've all been posting on here, and even going back to the days of the Conservation Cafe. I'm sure the fish are always biting where he is at now. RIP, Wayne.
  14. Very nice, you should be proud. I recognize where this is. 5 minutes from my house. Is it open for fishing?? Going to have to hit it!
  15. Old Crow empty jug glitter boat ramp flat tire blues minnows, windshield bugs smell of oil, spilt beer marina lights glowing low tangled net, treble tournament is lost Kevin Van Dam I am not Paul Dallas victor!
  16. Helluva nice fish. Did you let that thing have a puff on your cigar before you released it? Whadje catcher on? Corn?
  17. Very nice blog report. Thank you.
  18. Nice fish Joe. Though you really need video. Filming your actual drive to the river with some hipster crap music playing and then some shots of you walking to the river all suited up. And in your fish poses, you should be holding the fish by the tail like its a giant steelhead.
  19. Have any cool photos to share of your favorites, Al? aquarium shots or otherwise from this region? an interesting subject -- the Ozarks being an island of clear water streams surrounded by flat land terrain/murky water. The more I travel, the more I appreciate what we have here.
  20. Yeah, not crazy about the way those turned out. I like the antique oil-rubbed bronze finish better.
  21. Had some fun making these. I think Gavin had given me the idea a few years ago in a fly-swap by taking empty Altoids tins and gluing craft foam in them to make a nice little fly box. So I've been saving them up over the months and with Xmas approaching, I got busier than an elf. I took it a step further and put a paint job on 'em, found a stencil at Hobby Lobby and had some fun. Emptied my old flyboxes of stuff I tied and filled these up to give out as gifts for some relatives. Let me know what you think. Paul Dallas
  22. Nice report. I need to get out bad.
  23. Really enjoyed the video. Amy's a heckuva fishergal. Loved the fist pump when you netted the fish, Justin.
  24. Jackson looked like he was ready to take over filming for you. Nice video. What weight rod were you using there? Looked like a very small rod, or very slow action.
  25. You carry a mighty big net.
