Anybody doing any good night fishing for crappie? Seems like you can catch a couple then it dies out. Also does anyone else have trouble catching crappie at night when there is a full moon?

don't mean to make fun of anyone who likes white bass. just like to stir the water. Over the years We have gotten used to the delicate fish flavors, crappie, walleye, bluegill, flounder and grouper. Even a nice flathead catfish is good to eat. All these I can roll in cornmeal, deep fry and they are wonderful. I haven't frozen any fish for the past 20 years. Like the fresh caught flavor and I go often enough to get enough to eat. Never have been one to care for any type of food that is dressed up to taste different from what it really is. Just a died in the wool meat and taters man. The whites are fun to catch except when night fishing for crappie and they wrap your line up around the others set out. i do have some friends who like them and when with them we will keep what they want.

went up searching for crappie a couple of times in the last 10 days. Got 13 one day and 14 another. All on white jigs in brush piles 14 to 18 feet deep. coves around the state park area. I was cleaning fish at the ramp and one boat pulled in and asked if I was cleaning white bass. Of course not. No way will I ruin my fillet knife on those things. i suspect if you tried to use them as fertilizer your crops would taste bad. Yeah I know there are all kinds of ways to make them edible but I mean good grief if you have to go to that much trouble to be able to eat them what does that tell you. Would be a good food for anyone wanting to lose weight.

Went up last Tuesday and yesterday. Tuesday had 8 crappie and 3 walleye all on jigs in 6 to 8 feet of water. Yesterday had 8 crappie and 2 walleye on jigs. Walleye were 4 to 6 feet and crappie were 10 feet. Crappie not on banks yet. did notice those using minnows were doing better than I in 10 to 15 feet of water. All around the high point area. Water temps yesterday were 60 to 64 so they should be hitting the banks hard about any day now. Happening later due to very cool spring. Very much like getting those walleye. Momma loves the walleye. And you know when momma is happy everyone is happy.

Went up today and had 11 nice crappie and one 5 pound catfish that I had hoped was a walleye when I hooked but but can't be lucky all the time. 35 feet of water on jigs in the brush around State Park area. As a bonus I got to see three Bald Eagles all flying around at the same time over the lake. Great to be in the outdoors.

I like fish best the old fashioned way, deep fried in cornmeal. However, I do some in Italian bread crumbs and wife and some of the family like that. it is pretty good.

Son and I went up Tuesday. Beautiful day. Sunny and lake like glass. We had 11 very nice crappie and three Walleye. 2 /2, 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 pounds on the walleye. All caught in about 35 feet of water. White or chartreuse jigs. State Park area brush piles.

Went up Tuesday and had 12 very nice keeper crappie. Caught a ton of little ones too but the nice keepers make it worth it. sure nice to be retired and pick a day when the sun is out and no wind. Beautiful on the lake. caught crappie in the brush piles around Cedar Ridge. 20 to 24 feet of water. All on jigs. Some hit light and some just slammed it. almost seems like the better ones were hitting it light. Fried Crappie fillets for supper tonight. Oh Boy Yeah!!!!!

One of the nice things about being retired is able to pick the best days top go. Like yesterday when the lake was glass smooth all day. Caught 7 very nice keeper crappie and one keeper walleye. all on green jigs in 24 fow. Could not keep count of all the small crappie I caught. This has been going on for several months. Lots of small crappie and a few keepers the keepers have been good 11 1/2 to 14 inches. seems like there is a year class that had a horrible spawn. While I caught a lot of 10 to 10 1/2 inchers this spring it seems like they are all gone now. anyone else noticing the same thing? For the bass guys, threw spinner bait early and had a few short bass. usually the spinner bait bite is good by now but water temp is still 67 - 68 and that bite is better around 60.
-
Went up Monday. Did a litle spinner baiting but just caught a few short bass. Went to the brushpiles in 20 to 24 feet of water and got a limit of nice crappie. Cedar Ridge area. All on jigs swimming them accross the top of the brush piles. Use any color you want to so long as it is chartruese. Another fish fry with the grandkids tonight.
-
Went up Wednesday afternoon. High point area brush piles only gave me 4 crappie this time. Went on to fish the brush piles between Turkey Creek and Cedar Ridge. Got 8 more good keepers and a bonus Walleye. 20 to 22 FOW. All on jigs. This time they were hanging just above the brush piles instead of down in them. Sure I could have had a limit but decided to throw a spinner bait for bass a couple of hours. Caught a few shorts and one keeper. water temp still needs to drop a little more for that bite to get good. Now that the crappie are moving into the brush piles should be able to keep them targeted till it just gets too cold to fish by working the deeper piles as the water temp drops. having kids and grandkids for a crappie supper tonight. Life is good.

depth of the fish were about 17 to 18 feet ringht ion the brush piles which were in 20 feet of water. To J.M. yes I've been catching a lot of shorts this summer. maybe the key was actually fishing in the brush and not over top of it. Or I was just lucky which I i will tkae any day.

Went up to Stockton yesterday/ Like most on this site my summer of crappie fishing has been less than stellar. yesterday I found some. High Popint area along the bluffs witht the brushpiles in 20 FOW. Caught a limit in about three hours. Nothing big just good solid keepers. Minnows and jigs. Caught a bunch of 6 to 8 inch bass also on the minnows. the crappie were IN the brush piles. had to drop down into the brush pile then slow reel up about two feet. If not a hit then drop back down and do it again. This was from noon to about 3:00 pm. early and late they may not be as tight in the brush plie. 10 keepers from one pile and the other 5 off another one. Going to be a good supper the next two nights at this house. Jig color was chartruese. Has about 10 shorts.

At least I'm glad to know I'm not the only one having trouble with finding the crappie. Did get the two four year old grandkids on the bluegill. Stayed around the docks with pieces of nightcrawlers. they had a ball. Also let them feed the crap a box of cheerios at the marina. They got a kick out of that. Of course had to get some ice cream while we at the marina. Gonna be busy for the next couple of weks so it sounds like I won't be missing much on the crappie action. Hopefully by then it will be a little back to normal. Thanks All.
