  1. Here is a discussion about it from the general discussion page:
  2. Glad Nathan was able to get ahold of you and get more information.
  3. John, can you send me an email too? My email is Jeremy.Risley@agfc.ar.gov I tried to contact you via FB this morning but never got a response.
  4. Wow, I was curious about this because Arkansas started asking for SSN last year and I had no clue why. When I did a search, most states were referring to federal law 42 USC Chapter 7, Subchapter IV, Part D, Section 666(a)(13). Here is a link to Section 666: http://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=granuleid:USC-prelim-title42-section666&num=0&edition=prelim (13) Recording of social security numbers in certain family matters.-Procedures requiring that the social security number of- (A) any applicant for a professional license, driver's license, occupational license, recreational license, or marriage license be recorded on the application; (B) any individual who is subject to a divorce decree, support order, or paternity determination or acknowledgment be placed in the records relating to the matter; and (C) any individual who has died be placed in the records relating to the death and be recorded on the death certificate.
  5. This document explains why the USACE is holding water right now. The water level at Newport needs to go down so they can release water. In conversations with the USACE, they told us they are going to build a high water ramp near the dam at some point in the near future. We hope they will make it so it can be used at all levels and not just high water. We also want to build a weigh-in facility at some point in that area and that would be a great combination. http://www.swl-wc.usace.army.mil/pages/docs/White_River_Master_Manual.pdf
  6. Nice!!! When is my guided trip??
  7. In Arkansas, the fishing reports that are posted are from either local marinas, tackle stores, or anglers. These reports are handled by the Communication Division and not by Fisheries.
  8. When we collected it, it was in a large ball of shad.
  9. We found 74-degree water in Big Sister, last night. Lots of fish in there too.
  10. Here is a 22.75 inch Brown Trout that we collected while sampling black bass in Music Creek, last night.
  11. I will say that this biologist isn't afraid to admit that he doesn't know everything and wont ever say I do know everything. I consider it a good day when I learn something new. That is one of the reasons I come on here. We (AGFC) are starting to look at the White/Hybrid Striped Bass cross potential. Unfortunately, those that came before us, didn't consider this issue when they introduced hybrids to several fisheries in AR. We in north-central AR tried to discontinue Hybrid Striped Bass stockings in Norfork Lake until we had better information on the impacts of Hybrids in the lake. Unfortunately, we ran into resistance from the local chamber of commerce and angling group and the plan was scrapped. During recent winter gill net samples, we did catch some odd looking White Bass (or at least that is what we ended up calling them).
  12. That could have been from the flooding or a remnant from old stocking. Rainbow Trout were stocked in Bull Shoals Lake up to 2014. For the Arkansas side, you would need a trout stamp to harvest a trout from the lake.
  13. On the lower end, we just replenished 125 of the 146 existing sites from Oakland to the Dam since Dec. 2017.
  14. Are you referring to the Webb Outdoors Elite Series (used to be called Central Pro-Am Elite) tournament this weekend? If so, here is their website: http://webboutdoors.com/2015-info/central-elite-pro/
  15. It was on this weekend!!! Here are the results from the Winter Bass-O-Thon out of Bull Shoals Lake Boat Dock. There were 9 - five pound and 11 - four pound bass weighed for big bass. I would guess another 5-8 four pounders were weighed in varies sacks. It was quite impressive see all these fish while handling fish care. http://www.winterbassothon.com/021018_Bull_Shoals.pdf

Quick tip for ID Gizzards vs Threadfins: To tell the difference, swipe your finger down from the top of their nose to the bottom of their mouth. If your finger catches the bottom lip, it is a Threadfin Shad. If your finger doesn't catch the bottom lip, it is a Gizzard Shad. That is the simplest way to determine the difference between the two.
  17. terryj1024, The crappie stocking in the lower end of Bull Shoals Lake isn't an annual stocking. In fact looking at our stocking database which goes back to 1983, we have only stocked crappie in BS from our hatchery system in 2005, 06, 10 and 17. Typically if we stock crappie in BS, it is through the Nursery Pond at Lead Hill. We had some anglers request crappie be stocked in the lower end of the lake during the same time of the last nursery pond stocking. We promised them we would make a stocking request. The stocking in 2017 was fulfilling that promise. If we continue to have high water events every 2-4 years, we don't have plans to direct stock any more crappie from the hatchery system in the near future in BS.

  20. Stumps do last a long time. But they are dangerous to handle with the equipment we were using. MDC flipped their barge that is similar to ours while trying to dump some stumps.
  21. That is MDC's habitat barge. It is the same design as ours. They were donated by Bass Pro Shop.
  22. The large-scale habitat project on Bull Shoals Lake has been completed. Over the past two weeks (seven actual working days), Fisheries Division personnel (40 total) worked to replenish existing habitat sites on the lower end (Oakland to Dam) of Bull Shoals Lake. The original goal of this project was to replenish 61 sites in Howard, Big and Little Sister Creeks (marked in green on the map below). Due to the hard work of the staff, we were able to replenish those 61 sites and an additional 34 sites for a total of 95 sites. The additional sites are marked in white (Barnes Bay and Dry Run Creek), purple (Noel Creek) and yellow (Jimmie Creek). We estimated over 500 trees were used during this project to replenish the 95 sites. Replenished sites will be updated on the AGFC Mapper after the first of the year.

  24. Old plug, You are correct that readings will differ depending on where you taking the readings. The TLWC actually takes readings from 5 to 7 different spots around mid to lower end of the lake. I just included one spot because that is the only spot they do everytime they are out. Most of the time they all do vary some. I will say the main purpose of collecting these readings is to help the club monitor where the thermocline is and the deep pocket of oxygenated water where walleye inhabit during the summer months. They then pass the info along to us. I would also agree that anglers shouldn't base their fishing trips solely on these readings. We all know fish don't always follow what we think they should.
