Agree to disagree😌. BGL has a better texture IMO than crappie.

@Daryk Campbell Sr I can grow a decent beard. My wife hates it. Makes me look too much like my brother and that's not a good thing for her😌. Last real beard was my playoff beard when the Penguins last won the Stanley Cup s few years ago. I know that it was my beard that helped them win👍

@Quillback you got me thinking of fresh fish. After work I took Livie to a small pond near us. Hoping to catch a few bluegill and crappie. Livie had the bluegill mojo landing about a half dozen quickly but didn't catch any bluegill over 8 inches to keep. Livie caught a couple of golden shiners and a largemouth as well as two crappie. One was 10 inches her largest caught in MD. I only caught black crappie all 8 to 10 inches using a white and chartreuse trout magnet under a float. Kept a few for a dinner this weekend. Not a @Lance34 hand full of crappie but enough for us three😀.

When we have grown snap or snow peas they never made it into a dish. Kids would eat them off of the stalks. Can't complain if they eat a variety of vegetables.

We used to catch bay scallops (the little guys) from the intercoastal in NC. Lots of good meals. Never tried the ceviche approach. Should work.

Bluegill are one of my favorite freshwater fish to eat . i like them better than crappie. Nice bunch of hybrid filets! Clean the red meat and you're good to go .

I can't wait for the day to be able to say this! I have been stuck doing accounting clean up for the last couple of days that should have been done 4 to 5 months ago and by someone else. Oh and merit, which this year is like squeezing blood from a turnip. I have been getting on OAF as a release to keep from screaming at the walls. A bunch of our clients have settled into their working from home deal. So our email traffic jumped considerably since Weds. So I got that going for me as well . I will say that having my staff on rotating schedules for working in the office and at home sure makes it quiet. Enough of a rant. Keep us posted on what's going on by you Jeff. Also post photos if you do fish and hang a striper. I am going to try fishing again this evening and try to bring home some crappie and/or bluegill just to feel more prepared.

I remember a couple of years ago, a member (Norm M) from Illinois was fishing around park grills, swing sets, benches and catching a bunch of smallmouth. Loved reading about how many fish were stacked up under a park bench.

Scallops are another protein that is usually overcooked as well . Nothing like eating a fish flavored eraser.

We have venison in the freezer. They haven't closed down our fishing ops. Maybe bringing more fish home in the near future. There is a closed season for the stinkin bass until June. They would make good fish tacos.

We do like tuna melts on toasted English muffins. Even before COVID we would have tuna casserole a couple times a month.

@ness we liked Kerrygold back in ours days in Ireland. Hard to find around here. Of course most everything is hard to find nowadays 😌.

Sticking with a Irish/British theme made beer battered fish using the remaining drum filets. Also hand cut chips. Sprinkled with malt vinegar and homemade tartar sauce.

Blessed are the big noses!

The schools closed here on Monday. My business is considered a critical business so we will do what we can to stay open. We are shifting schedules and having those folks that can work from home to do so. The others are to try and work such that they distance each other. Not sure how well that will work but we will see. All internal meetings ate to done via conference call or Skype. I think that MD has a meal program for kids that won't have enough to eat at home. Could be wrong.

We had corned beef and cabbage as well. That was after getting out for an hour of fishing. Caught redbreast, pumpkinseed, and green sunfish, yellow and white perch and white catfish and brown bullheads😀. Not a bad St Pats day!

I got in touch with my inner self this morning. That's the last time I use one-ply toilet paper. Why did the toilet paper cross the road? It was on a roll! A roll of toilet paper walked into a bar. The bartender says "man you look awful! What's wrong?!?" the TP responded "Nothing I'm just wiped!" What does toilet paper and Star Trek have in common? they both search Uranus for Klingons1

Couple of good looking fists full of fish! Congrats!

i know that some guys like @laker67 and @Ham are working on their fishing goals. Hopefully everyone else is getting a chance to fish. Near the end of March I thought that I would revisit my 2020 goals. I had a bad cold that put me out of commission for close to three weeks in Jan/Feb, but I have been able to bounce back and catch some fish lately ! I am questioning whether we would be able to make it out to the White/Norfork area in Mar/Apr due to COVID-19. We did do a charter in SC that was unexpected. Caught four new species so far in 2020, which puts me at 25% of accomplishing that goal. Little Skate from DE beach Black Drum from South Carolina - checks off catching a black drum and is included as a new fish for the lifelist. American (white) shad in North Carolina - also checks off catching this shad and is included as a new fish. Caught a flier sunfish this last weekend which covers one new sunfish as well as a new lifelist fish. Good luck to all of you guys!

There is a reason that they say those breads have more roughage! May have to bring back the days with the Sears Roebuck catalog.

They truly are the poor man's tarpon ! It's a shame that they don't get much larger. A 20 lb shad would be a beast to tackle . -
So another alternative state record was broken. This time by a bowfisherman that shot a big white sucker in Lake Taneycomo. Congratulations Justin! Douglas County man shoots new state-record sucker Justin Lakey of Ava shot a 5-pound, 1-ounce white sucker at Lake Taneycomo JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) congratulates Justin Lakey of Ava for shooting a new state-record white sucker. Lakey was bowfishing Feb. 22 when he shot the 5-pound, 1-ounce fish in Lake Taneycomo. The previous record under alternative methods was caught in 2010 and weighed 4-pounds, 5-ounces. Suckers are one of the dominant groups of large fishes in Missouri waters. They feed mostly by sucking up material from the bottom. White suckers are found nearly statewide, but are absent from the Bootheel lowlands and southeastern Ozarks. MDC staff verified the white sucker’s weight using a certified scale at Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery in Branson. This is the fourth state-record fish of 2020. Missouri state-record fish are recognized in two categories: pole-and-line and alternative methods. Alternative methods include: trotlines, throwlines, limb lines, bank lines, jug lines, spearfishing, snagging, snaring, gigging, grabbing, archery, and atlatl. For more information on state-record fish, visit http://bit.ly/2efq1vl. MDC congratulates Justin Lakey for holding the latest state-record for white sucker. Lakey was bowfishing at Lake Taneycomo Feb. 22 when he shot the 5-pound, 1-ounce fish.

North Carolina Shad Run 3/10/20

After check out we did look at the water up near the dam. the river breaks up into multiple branches all converging at the dam. The water looked really good for shad with a decent current and lots of current breaks, eddies and seams for the fish to hold. We saw a few fishermen and watched one guy land a shad using a chartreuse curly tail grub. So I will keep all this information in mind possibly for next year's run if I can't get on them again this spring. -
Jeff I had always thought that they were smaller as well. Like a 4 to 6 inch fish. I also didn't expect them to fight as strongly as they did. Definitely a surprise😀.
