  1. Yes. Its was okay. Maybe if it was better bacon or chocolate it may have been better.
  2. Didn't you see my previous post? We would catch our limits at the local lake in Columbia after Feb 1. If lived there now i would have eaten a couple of trout dinners already.
  3. Seth I agree. When the trout have that orange flesh they taste great. Unfortunately the fish that I would catch that had that colored flesh were brown trout. I just don't eat browns anymore. So that would leave stocker rainbows and any possible holdovers in the parks or whire/red ribbon streams. Of course unless I was out west then it was invasive brook trout on the menu.
  4. Very nice buddy. Congrats!
  5. I used to look for days like that just to get down there and fish. Especially good if I went on a Tuesday or Weds. Often fished all alone. Good luck if you get down that way soon.
  6. I'm an hour ahead of you guys. So I'm now on my lunch break !
  7. Those are great looking bass! Congrats on catching the best footballs over the weekend!
  8. I agree with that, which is why it's better to catch four, get them cleaned and on ice before you start fishing again !
  9. Always thought that it was trout park etiquette to keep four on a stringer and cull the smaller ones when you caught something larger .
  10. I had only really began regularly fishing the parks about 8 years ago. Was a good place to get my kids on some trout in a creek. Especially after taking them pond trout fishing in the urban lakes. Haven't done an opener yet. Not likely to now either. I would get excited for the PA opener when I lived there. Pretty much a similar deal to the trout park openers. Didn't like that very much. So most years I would have been fishing for trout pretty regularly in the Current or Little Piney or other trout stream well before the parks opened and often was the only one on the river. Also would have likely been out more than a few times meat fishing the urban lakes after Feb 1st. So the allure of being packed along the bank with a bunch of strangers didn't have much appeal.
  11. Those plants are lotus. They have taken over the shallow water areas over the last couple of years. Typically fish there before they green up and put up new leaves. Still tougher from the bank lately. Thought about belly boats out there.
  12. North east of Columbia. Up route Z towards Centralia and east on St Charles road.
  13. I've caught some nice smallmouth in the red ribbon section. Only one brown trout down there. Still counted 😁.
  14. Wrench you ever fish Turkey Farm Lake? Also caught crappie, gills, and readear there with Livie as well.
  15. McCredie Farm lake has been regulated for bluegill. Must be 9 inches to keep them. Most fish that I have caught there on one trip was 92 using microjigs. Mostly bluegill, black crappie, and bass. Crappie population took a big dive two years ago. Heard that some guys fished it hard for several weeks keeping stringers of crappie. Small lake like that can't take that kind of pressure. Livie and I fished this lake a lot as well. Enjoyed catching golden shiners as much as the crappie and gills.
  16. I've done well on nice redear sunfish there during the spawn. Bluegill plentiful and some nice size. Catch a lot of small crappie. Large numbers but little size. Would fish it a lot with my daughter. Was close to the house and was always a great go and just catch some fish lake.
  17. Congrats buddy! Nice report. Did you catch any around the treatment outflow? Last time I fished that creek the trout would go on a feed when the discharge started. Did you see any browns in that white ribbon section?

    What's Cooking?

The best thing about the Superbowl yesterday was the food. I am patting my own back, but was satisfied with every dish. I started on Saturday. I had rabbit and a squirrel from Missouri in the freezer. I tried Hank Shaw's green chile rabbit figuring that once pulled off the bone it could be served on a flour tortilla. I have to say that I do love now cooking with gas. I got a good char on poblano peppers and a jalapeno that I picked up from a local Mexican market. I also picked up Mexican oregano, tomatillos, and espazote as well. I also broiled the tomatillos, onions, and garlic. I blended up the tomatillos, onion, garlic, some of the roasted poblanos and jalapeno in a blender along with fresh cilantro, Mexican oregano, and the espazote and blended into a sauce. I browned the meat in goose fat (via @BilletHead ). Removed the meat and browned half of an onion, then meat added back into the dutch oven along with about 3/4 of the sauce. Simmered the meat for about 90 minutes. Once done the meat and sauce went into the fridge. Yesterday I pulled the meat from the bone and put into a crock pot along with the sauce to serve it warm. Served it with lettuce, cilantro, sour cream, and scallions drizzled with fresh lime juice. Our friend that came over had never had small game and he had a couple of tortillas ! The only reason that he might not have had more was the other snacks that I prepared. I made fresh jalapeno poppers. Half got cream cheese, Colby jack cheese, and panko crumbs. The other half got a modified crab imperial that I considered as Chesapeake poppers. The crab consisted of lump crab meat folded into a mixture of 1/4 cup mayo mixed with 1/2 cup of softened cream cheese, tsp Old Bay, tsp of fresh lemon juice, one beaten egg, and chopped parsley. Topped the stuffed peppers with panko. Then there were the chicken wings. I made teriyaki sauce following a Tyler Florence recipe. Glazed the fried wings with the teriyaki by coating the wings then into the oven to set the glaze put in a bowl and added toasted sesame seeds. Served them with wasabi ranch dressing that we prepared with wasabi paste and ranch dressing. The other batch got my own buffalo sauce recipe - Hot sauce, butter, hickory BBQ sauce, and brown sugar. Also set the glaze in the oven before serving with blue cheese dressing. The game sucked and the commercials were blah!

I love key limes! Used to get them fresh when living in southern Florida. Also used to get fresh lychee fruit and star fruits. Those cookies look great!
  20. Great report Marty. If I was closer, I would be hounding you for your surplus meat and fat! That would be just as a friend trying to keep you from going over you possession limits of course !
  21. I don't usually fish for catfish since it is just not something that I do that often. I have catfished Little Dixie and been successful when I lived in Columbia. I sent you a PM about some things that worked for me.
  22. Congrats for you letting her have the rod. Bet that she will remember that for years to come. Been trying to get my daughter onto some of those freight train fish for her to experience that kind of fight.
  23. Nice trip for you guys. Glad to see that she got some quality fish. Congrats to you making memories with your daughter! Not sure how I get called out, but duly noted my friend 😜.

    What's Cooking?

Looks good Ness. What syrup did you use? Hopefully real maple. This morning was Amish cinnamon raisin bread french toast with Folly farm eggs.
