  1. If you find a spot with tiger trout, I would love to hear about it if you are willing to share. They can have some really awesome coloration and patterning. Definitely a fish worthy of any bucket list. Good luck.

    What's Cooking?

My wife and oldest daughter default to Mexican food. Whereas my youngest, my son, and I prefer Asian food. I could eat Thai or Chinese food everyday. I just love the flavor combinations. Here's what we had the last few of days: Corned beef with cabbage using red and green cabbage and fingerling potatoes. It's not just for St. Patrick's day. Grilled chicken that was marinated in a mixture of soy sauce, lemon juice, with chopped ginger and garlic. Served with sauted green and yellow petit squash with garlic and dill. Chicken stir fry with leftover grilled chicken, cabbage, carrot, farmers market oyster mushrooms (sorry BH haven't found any wild ones), and onion cooked with ponzu and served with white rice. All followed by the ripe peaches and nectarines.
  3. Good luck on your trip. I haven't been to that part of NC, but have alwys heard how nice it is. In Wyoming I found brooks to be pretty skittish. I was successful drifting a bait down into the school as opposed to casting from down stream. That was probably due more to my poor casting spooking the fish with my fly line.
  4. We had a bunch of rain our way over the weekend and then again today. If the mycelia withstood the drought, I would think that around here we should be seeing some mushrooms the end of the week or weekend. I'll let you know what I find. May have to take the .22 along for protection just in case some angry tree rats attack.
  5. Has anyone gone out mushroom hunting after the rains? I am planning on a foray or two this week to see if there are any chanterelles popping up in my usual haunts. I'm hoping that the rains will provide enough moisture for a summer season of mushrooms this year.
  6. Good luck Dan! Love to see you complete your goal.
  7. Dan - Looks like a walleye catching machine!

    What's Cooking?

I ate another one after I came back in from walking the dog. The remaining ones likely won't last long.
  9. Our large tomato varieties are taking their sweet time to ripen. We do get a couple of cherry tomatoes every couple of days. They are great right off the vine. Especially after a hot day. Nothing like that warn sweet burst of tomato when you bite into one. One of life's greatest pleasures. We aren't going to get many blackberries and they are taking their time to ripen as well.
  10. Didn't find any of the bronzeback pale ale at our Hyvee. Did find black walnut wheat and float trip. Likely to find the bronzeback sooner or later. May have to visit the brewery the next time I fish the upper Current.

RPS - Love the cone of shame reference. With kids, I have seen many of the animated family films. My wife doesn't like watching that film much anymore because she cries a lot. I do agree that it is a good film.

    What's Cooking?

I have probably eaten about 14 so far over the last couple of days. They are really good and super juicy. Starting to salivate just describing these peaches. Overeating them and getting sick is one of the reasons we try to can them as soon as possible. MoPanfisher I understand what you are talking about. We try to hand pick apples each year. You just have to try the fruit from several different trees before you go and fill that basket with the best tasting fruits. You end up eating several apples by the end of the day. We have learned to pace ourselves to not get sick. We have been doing that with our kids since my 20 year old was only 3 or 4 years old.
  13. Nice smallmouth! A really chunky fish. Congrats!
  14. Great post! Sorry about you loss. Glad to see you guys include your sons. Nothing like a smiling kid holding a fish.
  15. Thanks Flysmallie. I will have to take a look for it.

    test

I also could not view it on my android, but did view it from my computer. Nice video. We typically keep about 3-5 hummers around all summer. I saw two females and one male at our feeder this weekend.
  17. Does anyone know if Piney River Brewing also make the Old Tom Porter with the gobbler pictured on the can? That is sold at our local HyVee. I will have to look out for this brew if nothing more than it has a smallmouth on the can. I had no chance at those fantastic craws due to high unwadeable water and several work issues that cropped up since Friday. Mitch they look good enough to boil them up and add to an etouffee.

BH - You have to wear the shame like an albatross around your neck and suffer scorn of future "cooking" posters.

    What's Cooking?

When you wife comes home Friday with a bushel of ripe nectarines and a bushel of ripe peaches, this is what one does on a rainy holiday weekend. From the left; Spiced peaches, peach pie filling, spiced peaches with rum, and peach butter.

Is that Ham's garden? Might have overwatered it a bit. Pretty sure that all those greens are edible and probably taste as good as kale.
  21. His name was Kiran.
  22. Thanks guys. It has been a rough day. I can only feel for his son and soon the newest member of the family not to have a father at such an early age.
  23. Today we had a tragedy at work. One of my employees and a friend was killed today while walking along the road bordering the property owned by our company. The road is a dead end and the driver appeared to be impaired while driving. Many of our staff routinely walk along that roadway do to the lack of traffic. His wife is eight months pregnant with their second child. Please pray for his family as they suffer through their loss.
  24. That is a great looking stream. Lots of rock and logjams that have got to hold you bass. Nice photos as well. Looking forward to seeing more from OK in the future.
  25. With the microfishing that I have done over the last 10 months, I now have tackle (usually in the car already) that I can actually catch fish in almost any water that I pass by or over. So it has become even harder to just drive by without trying to catch something.
