We used to get a pulse early then none throughout May and June then a pulse again in JulyAug until they migrated south in Sept/Oct. I always attributed that to not having good nesting cover on our property and they simply were not around. Though we always had at least one male the whole season. We never had the hummer load that you guys have in Billetheadville.

Bob has been having terrible headaches for years and finally decided to go to the doctor to figure out what is wrong. After several tests the doctor calls Bob in for his diagnosis. "Bob" says the doctor. "I have figured out the issue and with surgery we can cure you." "What needs to happen?" "It will require castration." "What...?!?" "You're testicles are pressing upon the base of your spinal column and that pressure is what is creating those terrible headaches. By removing your testicles the pressure will be alleviated and no more headaches. I'll give you some time to think about it and we can discuss it further." Bob thinks about it and decides that he will go through with the operation because he just cannot take those headaches any longer. After his recovery, he is ecstatic that the operation worked. He no longer had any headaches. As he was headed home from the hospital he felt better than he has felt in a long long time, but that he was missing an important part of himself. As he walked down the street, he felt like a different person. It was like he had a new lease on life. As he passed a men's clothing store, he decided that he would get a new suit to go with his new life. He tells the tailor that he wanted a new suit. The tailor looks at him and without taking any measurements says "You look to be a 44 long." That's right laughed Bob. How did you know? I've been in this businees for 60 years and am good at my job says the tailor. Bob tried on the suit and it fit perfectly. As bob admired himself in the mirror the tailor asked "Would you like a new shirt to go with that suit?" Bob thought for a moment and said that yes he would like a new shirt. The tailor eyed Bob and said "Let's see, 34 sleeves and 16-1/2 neck" as he handed a shirt to Bob. Bob was surprised, "That's right, how did you know?" "Been in this business 60 years," quipped the tailor. Bob tried on the shirt and it fit perfectly. Bob walked comfortably around the shop and the tailor asked if he wanted some new underwear. "you look like a size 36." "A 36!" said Bob. "No you're wrong there. I wear a size 32 and have been for many years." The tailor shook his head and said, "You can't be wearing a size 32. If you did, your underwear would have pressed your testicles against the base of your spine which would have given you terrible headaches!"

I agree about the work involved, or for you and I know for me the "labor of Love" needed to rejuvenate this old iron. We have foam pads between our skillets. However, we also have way less that what is found in the Billetheadville vaults😉

Taneycomo is successful due to the size of the lake and its depth that provides some refuge from fishermen, but also has a tremendous forage base for the fish to grow. I don't believe that you have conditions within the trout parks like those in Taney that would allow really much growth for any but a few fish. It's the fish manager conundrum, supply more fish, bigger fish, or attempt the ultimate more bigger fish. More bigger fish leads to more money spent on maintenance of the fish. goes back to my commit earlier in this thread about raising lunkers and that may not be as big of a priority under the current management strategies. If you were to put in those restrictions, do you greatly reduce the number of fish stocked in those zones? The last comment I would say is that there would have to be a big change in the enforcement side and even more importantly better handling of trout at the parks for true catch and release of slot fish to be successful.

Not a dieters dinner. All a light fry. Tempura shrimp and asparagus. Also fried homemade Italian sausage ravioli. Marinara dipping sauce for ravioli. Ranch for asparagus. And cocktail or yumyum sauce for shrimp.

Nope not talking about your eyesight😉 Hadn't heard that story. I have to battle the slightest breeze blowing light line and bad eyesight to thread on my microhooks. So fishing for bigger fish is easy in comparison.

I wouldn't pass on that fish😁. Though not sure how much of a challenge it would be since I would be able to put the line through the hook eye unaided or not require multiple attempts 😉. Also there would not be the chance that the hook would blow away.

I know that is case in the lakes/ponds that are catch/release through Feb 1. In the past the catch/keep ponds were restocked during the season, but I don't know how regularly or how often they were restocked or if that is still the case currently.

Moving to shad gives you more targets and an elevation in excitement to work towards that tarpon. Regardless both are more that about an hour away from you, so your self imposed travel restrictions will hinder your chances to catch either 😜🙄 Never Diss the "Chub"!

Tarpon us just a giant herring. Need to get you on a shad trip as a continued gateway towards tarpon 😉.

Use of chum is prohibited. Trout permits are required if trout are kept. Trout may be taken by pole and line using all types of lures and baits under statewide limits, except during the dates listed below. August Busch Lakes #21 and #28 Restrictions November 1 - January 31: Catch and release only for trout. Flies, artificial lures, and unscented soft plastic baits only. Only 1 pole may be used. Use of chum is prohibited. February 1 - October 31: You must stop fishing for all species after having 4 trout in possession. Area Type So in the first three lakes there are really no restrictions. There are catch and release restrictions for the other two lakes. Those distrinctions may not be fully understood by most folks. Probably easy to ignore or difficult to enforce with the excuse that "I caught these over in Lake 3". Seems like a bad situation for enforcement. May not have anything to do with the politics of the Mayor 😉.

In Columbia I was checked more frequently during the urban trout than anywhere or any time elsewhere.

Yes they only need a trout permit at $10 to catch and keep trout. But that is the same as a guy fishing the Niangua below the park. From what I read previously Lake Taneycomo gets around 750K trout or more a year.

I think that the number of trout going to the urban program is far less than you think. This is on MDC's website: A trout permit is required to possess trout, except in trout parks where a daily trout fishing tag is required during the catch-and-keep season. In addition, a trout permit is required for winter fishing in trout parks during the catch-and-release season and for fishing year-round in Lake Taneycomo upstream from the U.S. Highway 65 bridge. To fish for trout, anglers must also have a fishing permit or qualify for an exemption. MDC raises trout at five fish hatcheries and releases about 1.7 million trout around the state for public fishing each year. According to MDC, the annual cost of fish food and staff labor to raise a trout in 2003 was about $1 per fish. The annual cost in 2017 had jumped to nearly twice that amount. I have seen estimates of 70 to 75K trout being used for the urban lake program. Even if it is 170K trout that would still only be 10% of the trout being released around the state. If we use the 75K estimate, then only 15,000 trout stamps ($10 stamp) would need to be purchased by folks living in those urban areas to cover the cost of the fish (75K x $2.00 per fish). That does not seem to be a large number of folks and it seems likely that they are in fact paying for the costs of the fish being used in the urban program. Also I recall that the cities used to purchase those fish or at least in part. I won't speak to the number of lunkers being shipped out from the hatcheries. My thoughts and from what I have heard from folks is that there is not an emphasis on rearing a large number of "lunkers" or brood fish to be released into the parks or lakes. Seems like Taneycomo gets it fair share.
